The consequences can be severe

least one vendor in the past 12 months1
The contractually specified tolerance
specified by many software vendors during
audits is 5%2

How much are you paying today?
“Through 2014, enterprise software spend will increase by 25% from current figures
as a consequence of the proliferation of “smart OT*””.1
• How confident are you that you do not own more than you need?
• What if you could save 5% by re-negotiating your ELAs/contract?
• How much budget would this free up?
• Can you manage impact of self-provisioning in your cloud environment?

Classical per workstation licensing (Adobe)
Windows Server
•An Enterprise Edition license can cover up to 4 virtual instances on a Physical server
•A Standard Edition license can cover an additional virtual instance
SQL Server Enterprise Edition (per CPU)
•An enterprise license covering all CPUs of the physical server will also cover an unlimited number of virtual instances
•Customer can choose to cover the virtual instances if the sum of their CPU is below the number of CPUs of the physical server
•In the end, the server must take the min of the CPUs between physical server and sum of the virtual instances (if no SQL server is installed
on the physical server)
Microsoft desktop application licensing:
•A user can install a second copy of the application on a portable device if he has a license.
•Asset Manager can flag every first Microsoft application on a portable device not to be counted
Oracle CPU licensing (Core Factor table)
•Oracle Standard and Standard one: the server must be charged for the number of CPU
•Enterprise Edition: number of Cores * Core factor for the CPU type
•Hard partitioning (Solaris containers…): number of cores of the virtual server, soft partitioning (VMWare…): number of cores of the physical
server
IBM PVU licensing, including sub capacity
•Number of PVU points of CPU type x nr of cores
•Sub capacity: the number of cores chosen will be either the number of the physical server or the sum of cores of the virtual instances with
the application installed
ESX server
•CPU number x Factor depending on the number of cores per CPU
•If the server has more that 256 GB of RAM: Enterprise Plus Edition required

A workflow automates the upgrade of licenses under maintenance to reflect the actual versions
entitlements
License versions are linked together (Withe release date information per country, US release dates are
provided)
The workflow upgrades license to the latest released version at the end of the maintenance
License models are historized to keep traceability of the automated upgrade
The compliance reports reflect the actual versions entitlements, with downgrade rights
