The document discusses the conventions and techniques used in the film trailer for a supernatural thriller film. It aims to attract a large audience by using various settings, characters, shots, and sounds to create tension and interest without revealing too much of the plot. It shows consistency throughout by using the same fonts and backgrounds for titles and names. The release date is also advertised vaguely as "Coming Soon".

3. Mise-en-scene- There are several different settings, costumes, lighting and sounds used. Settings-houses, fields, woods, busy roads, inside car, park, bathroom, car park and a viewpoint. We used these to show no matter where she is, she is being followed. We also used these as they are effective settings that represent the genre which are also stereotypical. Costumes-Dark clothing, pale makeup, ordinary clothing. Lighting- night time, dark colour palette, low key lighting. Sound- Diegetic-screams, heartbeat, footsteps, rustling of leaves, small amount of dialogue. Non-diegetic-soundtrack (Hans Zimmer & James Newton Howard-Why so serious?) Characters- We have only the main characters in our trailer due to the reasons of after researching in several ways, for example questionnaire, we found that most people liked fewer characters. The main characters we have included are: Amy Watkins-playing Abbey who is the main victim Emma Prothero-playing one of the followers Nathan Rhodes-Brandon-playing one of Abbeys friend. We felt this was effective as it shows that Abbey is the only person who can see the followers. Claudia Lander-playing another follower. Narrative/events- Supernatural, unexpected following-however yet very different to stereotypical shots as this is a ghost following another human being. Camera work- We have used a vast amount of different shots. Some of the most important and powerful are: Close up- to show facial expression in moments of tension. Long/establishing- shots to show different settings. Zoom in- Point of view shot- Tracking- Extreme close up- Editing- We used similar editing skills throughout due to the reasons of keeping it consistent throughout. We have mostly used straight cuts, fade in and fade out. Forms and conventions of the genre thriller
4. Many genre theorists argue that films can be classified as a result of our own perceptions; created through our experience of media texts. Definitions of genre may differ from one person to the next. Orthodox definitions are based on belief that genres contain particular conventions. For example, Neale states that genres are instances of ‘repetition and difference’. He also argues that genres are ‘systems of expectations and conventions that circulate between industry, text and subject’. However, Gledhill states ‘Genres… are not discrete systems, consisting of a fixed number of items’. Comedy Thriller Romantic Comedy Genre theory
