Susan James, Head of NFV Infrastructure at Ericsson, discussed in the OPNFV Summit 2017 in Beijing the initiatives to meet the needs of the global community supporting United Nations (UN) sustainable development goals (SDG). 5G and IoT has opened up opportunities for responsible consumption and affordable energy, but also put requirements on the network infrastructure. By focusing on network evolution and leveraging on the telco cloud strategy, Ericsson has created an scalable and economically viable platform, based on automation. Ericsson is working closely with technology partners, standardization boards and open source communities to drive thought leadership and innovation and build up the infrastructure for sustainable cities and communities.
