Stokely’s Childhood <ul><li>Born in the Port of Spain, Trinidad, June 29 th , 1941 </li></ul><ul><li>Moved to U.S. when he was two years old </li></ul><ul><li>He went to school with white kids </li></ul><ul><li>In school they would describe him as “hip” because he had a cool, calm personality </li></ul>
Stokely Carmichael College Years <ul><li>While at Howard he decided to become part of the civil rights movement. He became part of the Freedom Riders. The Freedom riders were Congress for Racial Equality. </li></ul>
After College <ul><li>After graduating from Howard in 1964 he joined the SNCC and in 1966 became the chairman of this organization. While being the chairman of the organization he made the slogan “Black Power” popular. But this movement was bolder </li></ul>
