Lil’ Ze’. He makes ned strip showing that he has power over both men and women
emasculating ned

5. Neds girlfriend
■ Lil ze rapes her showing that in the favellas the men got what they wanted weather it
was by force or by violence, also dehumanising the women of said favellas

6. Becoming a hood
■ The reasoning for his becoming of a hood was due to Lil’ Ze’ shooting down Ned’s
house destroying everything that he loved after raping his girl. Symbolic of the how
the decay in the area is becoming quicker and how the shooting and death are
becoming more common and quicker as at gthat time roughly 1 person died every 90
seconds.This however changed after the events of the film to 36 in every 100,000 in
2008 to 5 in every 100,000 in 2012

way Ned is damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t. linking to the posters tagline

analogous to "You're damned if you do, damned if you don't"

8. Montage of gang life
■ Various scenes showing the decay of Neds morals, starting off with no killing, to
excetions of the rule to the rule becoming the exception. Eventually killing ottos dad in
the bank as angelica said early in the film ‘’ this violence sucks’’ this quote is polly
cemic saying that the violence is bad but also that its sucks you in changing who you
are as a person

9. Lil’ Ze’ looks like Ned or vice versa
■ As the film progresses Neds appearence deteriorates as the violence and blood shed
that he indulges in continues and gets worse. As this happens we see resembelences
between him and Lil’ Ze’ showing he is becoming the thing that he hates without him
realising

10. DEATH !!!The end of knockout Ned
■ Killed by otto the child of Ned’s first kill, creating the and showing the circle of life in
the cidade de deus where ned went down that road because Lil’Ze’ killed his family
and Ned wanted to kill him for it, then ned kild ottos dad and the circle continues
