Our team is developing a mobile app called Lyric/Artist Finder to help people find lyrics and information about songs. The app will provide lyrics, artist details, and previews of songs both new and old. It aims to solve the problem of people not knowing the name or artist of a song they hear. The app development is technically and financially feasible, and it will be free to users initially to gain popularity before potentially introducing a small fee.
2. • Infinitives:
- Who? People who love music.
- What? When people are confused about lyrics of
a song or they want to know who the song is by.
They can also find out more about the artist and
other recommended songs by the artist.
- When? This app can be used anytime of the day.
- Where? Lyric/ArtistFinder can be used
anywhere with or without an internet connection,
that's what makes it so great and helpful.
- Why? Nobody likes getting the lyrics wrong in a
song so our app can help with that problem. Also,
it lets the users explore further into music they
didn't know about.
3. The problem many people encounter is; you hear a
song you really like, you may want to download it or
listen to it on the internet. However, you don’t know
what its called or even who sung it you may only know
some of the lyrics.
You may type in the lyrics on the internet to find out
the song however, the internet may give you
someone's cover on it recently. Therefore, its not
reliable
Sometimes you just want to find out about the song
such as its release dates, songwriter, instruments
and many more.
4. The question our team is trying to answer is…
“HOW WILL OUR APP HAVE OLD AND NEW
SONGS WITH THE CORRECT LYRICS AND
DETAILS?”
5. Our key insights statements are:
To be able to find lyrics of songs easily
Also, to find more information about the song and
the artist.
6. Our team, Infinitives, is developing a mobile app to help
anyone who loves music however, don’t know most songs.
Our app will help people if want to know the lyrics,
artist and details of the latest and past songs. Our app
tells them the lyrics and details and even gives them
previews to see if it’s the right song.
7. We sent out a survey asking potential users questions
about our app. 83% of the people we asked are aged
between 10-20, there was a mixture of males and
females who listen to different genres of music. We
found out the following from sending out surveys to
possible users of our future app:
83% of them listen to music everyday,
66% of people want to know song details and the
lyrics of some songs,
33% are willing to pay for our app,
75% of the people would find this app useful.
8. When looking at similar apps already in the market
we found some but they didn't completely solve the
problem. One app was called “lyric search”, it allows
you to find lyrics of a song that you are listening to
on your iPod. This doesn’t fully solve the problem
because it only allows you to find lyrics form songs
on your iPod and not from the radio or songs your
thinking of or a song you would like to know more
about.
Another app was called “lyric look” it is similar to
“lyric search” however it lets you use Google to learn
more about the song but it doesn’t give you the
actual lyrics.
9. User 1’s story:
“I love all different kinds of music and want to know
lyrics of the latest songs without hassle and know who
the songs are by.”
User 2’s story:
“I like particular singers and want to know when there
next song comes out and know the lyrics fast. I love
finding out new things about my favourites artist and
I want to know if I’m getting songs right.”
19. To the right shows the
settings you can adjust in
our app:
20. Data Feasibility:
Our app requires sound files which will be played when
the user wishes to preview the song. We will need to
be authorised and able to use songs by various artists.
Technical Feasibility:
Our app is simple to build as many of its features are
on an average app. A professional developer could
build our app in less than 3 months. However, it will
continuously need updated in order to have every song.
To make our app easier to build we could remove songs
before the 1900s.
21. “We believe that people should be able to listen to
music without the struggle of getting lyrics wrong
without having to pay for it as it will be more popular
if it is free.”
Our business model will be that the users wont have
to pay for the app. This is because people are more
interested in free apps than ones that have to be paid
for.
At first it was a thought to make the app an app that
has to be paid for however we thought we would get
less interest if it was.
What's more, if the app increases in popularity we will
add a small price to it.
22. To promote our app, we will do the following
during marketing;
Send out leaflets, posters, banners, etc.
Adverts on apps and social media
We will also tell people and do small
pitches.
