EVOLUTION COMIC
Directions: Ask the students to create a comic strip detailing the evolution of life. It should be at least five panels, though students who are ready might include
many more. Have students use the opening activity as a basis of structuring what’s happening, if that makes things easier for them. Students may use the comic
book template provided here or any simple comic book template. Each panel should include explanatory text in their own words as well as drawings and the
following seven evolutionary steps should be included in their comic.
•	 LUCA
•	 plants and animals
•	 primates
•	 apes (hominoids)
•	 great apes (hominids)
•	 bipedal primates (hominines)
•	 humans (Homo sapiens)

EVOLUTION COMIC
Directions: Create a comic strip that tells the story of evolution, from LUCA to Homo sapiens. Your comic needs to be at least five panels, but make it longer if you
like. For each panel, draw or trace a picture, and include text that explains what’s going on. Your comic doesn’t have to be exact. Instead, focus on highlighting the
major stages in human evolution and what the driving force for change has been. Be creative. Be as detailed as you like. And be sure to use the space provided at
the bottom of each panel to provide a simple description of what’s happening.
Your comic must include information about the seven evolutionary steps listed below:
•	 LUCA
•	 plants and animals
•	 primates
•	 apes (hominoids)
•	 great apes (hominids)
•	 bipedal primates (hominines)
•	 humans (Homo sapiens)

Lesson 6.0 Activity: Evolution Comic

  • 1. TEACHER MATERIALS EVOLUTION COMIC Directions: Ask the students to create a comic strip detailing the evolution of life. It should be at least five panels, though students who are ready might include many more. Have students use the opening activity as a basis of structuring what’s happening, if that makes things easier for them. Students may use the comic book template provided here or any simple comic book template. Each panel should include explanatory text in their own words as well as drawings and the following seven evolutionary steps should be included in their comic. • LUCA • plants and animals • primates • apes (hominoids) • great apes (hominids) • bipedal primates (hominines) • humans (Homo sapiens) BIG HISTORY PROJECT / LESSON 6.0 ACTIVITY
  • 2. STUDENT MATERIALS EVOLUTION COMIC Directions: Create a comic strip that tells the story of evolution, from LUCA to Homo sapiens. Your comic needs to be at least five panels, but make it longer if you like. For each panel, draw or trace a picture, and include text that explains what’s going on. Your comic doesn’t have to be exact. Instead, focus on highlighting the major stages in human evolution and what the driving force for change has been. Be creative. Be as detailed as you like. And be sure to use the space provided at the bottom of each panel to provide a simple description of what’s happening.
