  • Good Morning. My name is Nathaniel Calvert and I serve as president of our BDPA-Southern Minnesota chapter. Charlie Perkins is President Elect. Everyone should have copy of this PowerPoint presentation, however …
  • The agenda includes a brief review of BDPA, a status report on the 2007/2008 Alliance Projects, a discussion on the Alliance benefits, a list of 2008/2009 Planned projects and a summary wrap up of our alliance for 2008
  • Earl Pace Jr. and others founded the national organization in 1975. Today there are over 55 chapters nationwide. Our Southern Minnesota chapter was founded in 1999, currently the chapter has 94 members. We have won BDPA National awards in the past and we are shooting for the big one, Chapter of the Year, this year and in the future.

  • Our quest to become chapter of the year is also helping us enhance our Partners Alliance activities as well as our Community Workshops and and Technical symposiums. Weekly 3 hour class sessions are held on Saturdays at Century high school. 63 students registered in December 2007 and attendance has average 41 students per Saturday session.

  • The success of our YCTP is based on the dedicated efforts Zack Garbow and Jongy Howard Calvert. Zack resigned from IBM in January 2008 to become an entrepreneur in silicon valley. Zack ran the YCTP from California by creating a web site similar to Rochester’s ISD-535, AGILE, which provides teachers, students, and parents with education and tracking tools for Class assignments, grades and blogs. Zack’s www.bdpastudents.com web site provides similar Internet based facilities. YCTP students know their grades, lesson assignment/status, and relative position in the class. If anyone is interested in visiting www.bdpastudents.com send me a request and I will assign you a user ID and password.

  • It took a Chapter effort to raise funds for our trip to the technology conference in Washington, DC. The exposure of our students to the event was well worth the fund raising effort. The students also had a chance to interact with Angi Porter a former YCTP alumni who attends Howard University.
  • Our HSCC Teams have achieved phenomenal results in the annual BDPA High School Computer Science Competition. Over the last 5 years our HSCC Students have won 2 times and come in second 3 times. The 2006 HSCC team contained only one student from the 2005 winning team. That student with 4 new students almost won the competition in 2006 and did win in 2007. The top students in our class is a 9 grader followed by 2-10 graders.

  • Some of the Benefits of the Alliance include those listed here…
Some examples of these are newspaper articles with Mayo listed as either a supporter or employer, resumes to HR, 4 interns, 8 to 10 professionals for 2000.
    All of these are important.
  • Our Alliance mission for 2008/2009 is to become BDPA Chapter of the Year. In the process we will have fulfilled our Alliance commitments to our Alliance Partners.
  • To reiterate…
We am here today to share the status of the 2007 alliance, to provide information for the 2008/2009 alliance and to seek your continued support.
  • Are there any Questions?
