Dear Judges,
My name is Allison Albee and I have a passion for film and media. Although I've gone
through phases of wanting to be a Hollywood director or a big-shot producer, I had no idea
where to begin to explore career choices in such a competitive field. For the past four years I
have kept up a Youtube channel and have truly enjoyed the creative aspects of coming up with
an idea and putting it on screen, but I have also come to the realization that the long, grueling
hours of working on a film set would not suit other goals I have for the future. So, after I took the
time to research media-related careers, I decided to explore the art of advertising for my senior
project.
The product of my project includes both a commercial and two print advertisements
promoting adoptions through The Humane Society of America. I made it a point to choose a
topic that had meaning to me, but through my research I learned that it didn't matter if I cared
about it, but if the audience cared about it. The majority of my research consisted of techniques
used to lure an audience in or trick them into thinking that they need something. Although I did
not aim to trick my audience, my goal was to open my audience's eyes to a new perspective of
dogs. The biggest obstacle I faced in such an endeavor was to maintain the skeptical nature of
someone who does not own a dog, for that is who I intend to reach through my advertisements.
I chose to base my project off of advertising because I want my future career to be in the
media industry while still allowing me the structure of a nine to five job. I loved the creative
aspects of designing the campaign and predicting the response of my viewers, but I mostly
enjoyed being able to film and edit the product together. Because of this experience I have
found that I'd like to pursue a film and photography business and possibly be my own boss one
day! My preferences throughout the year have changed and I have discovered that running a
business based around filming and photography fits exactly what I want from a future career
and has given me a clear lead on where to start in college.
Although I have moaned and groaned over senior project all year, I am truly glad that I
took the time to really explore advertising. Because of this project I have discovered that
advertising might not be what I want to pursue, but it also helped me to decide to major in mass
media arts at the University of Georgia. I am no longer stressed about my future but am
thoroughly excited jump into college and make my dream a reality.
Thank you for your time, and I do hope that you enjoy my presentation!
Sincerely,
Allison Albee
