What
is
the
Purpose
of
this
program?
How
does
it
celebrate
and
bring
about
awareness
of
the
many
differences
that
are
represented
at
CSUF?
Pilipino-‐American
Student
Association
is
hosting
Friendship
Games,
a
Pilipino
cultural
festival.
With
over
40
Pilipino-‐American
organizations
participating,
we
hope
to
improve
their
experience
each
year,
through
competitive
games,
performances,
and
celebrating
“S.P.U.F.”
(Spirit,
Pride,
Unity,
and
Friendship).
Through
a
point
system,
the
top
schools
will
compete
for
1st,
2nd,
and
3rd
place
trophies.
Additionally,
the
school
with
the
most
creative
usage
of
S.P.U.F.
wins
a
trophy
as
well.
These
cultural
clubs
give
students
an
opportunity
to
learn
and
unify
with
others
to
share
knowledge
of
Pilipino
heritage.
With
Friendship
Games,
we
are
all
able
to
unify
through
music,
food,
clothing,
and
positive
spirit.
We
as
CSUF
students
have
an
effect
on
the
culture
through
our
own
legacy
as
PASA.
This
event
keeps
members
together
through
collectively
working
hard
to
make
it
a
success.
We
have
created
our
own
Friendship
Games
culture
and
enhanced
it
because
there
wasn’t
anything
before
this.
Similar
to
Cal
State
Fullerton’s
diverse
student
body,
Friendship
Games
offers
a
large
audience
the
opportunity
to
interact
with
people
of
different
heritages.
Even
the
Philippines
have
multiple
dialects
and
subcultures.
This
allows
students
of
all
customs
to
meet
each
other
and
connect
throughout
the
day.
Also,
with
CSUF
and
PASA
being
very
inviting
to
all
ethnicities,
cultures,
and
lifestyles,
we
are
inviting
all
organizations
to
participate
in
this
event
whether
it
is
through
games,
dance
routines,
or
S.P.U.F.
Any
internal
organization
has
free
registration.
External
organizations
from
other
schools
are
charged
$425.00.
How
would
the
University
Community
benefit
from
AICA
funding
this
program?
Discuss
the
educational
value
of
the
program.
Provide
a
time
outline
of
the
event
for
the
day
of.
Pilipino
culture
prioritizes
the
importance
of
family
and
unity
through
a
strong
support
system.
Students
who
enter
Friendship
Games
see
the
teamwork
in
games,
dance
routines,
and
the
collaborative
effort
students
create
as
they
arrive
in
themed
2. costumes
and
gimmicks.
As
schools
“S.P.U.F.”
throughout
the
day,
they
create
a
familial
relationship
among
the
organizations
attending.
The
Philippines
are
home
to
very
indigenous
tribes.
They
often
interact
with
each
other
through
chants
and
rituals.
The
organizations
that
participate
in
Friendship
Games
mimic
these
tribes
when
they
S.P.U.F.
each
other.
Clubs
will
exchange
chants
and
sometimes
gifts
in
hopes
of
sharing
spirit,
pride,
unity,
and
friendship
with
each
other.
Vendors
and
booths
will
be
offered
to
further
share
Pilipino
culture.
Food
trucks
will
be
featured
to
introduce
cultural
foods
to
attendees.
Clothing
booths
are
also
known
to
sell
Pilipino
inspired
apparel.
Attendees
will
notice
the
use
of
the
word
“Filipino”
and
“Pilipino”
throughout
the
day.
The
difference
between
the
two
is
quite
different.
“Filipino”
is
used
when
referring
to
a
person’s
nationality
while
“Pilipino”
is
used
when
referring
to
the
culture.
The
different
organizations
that
participate
in
Friendship
Games
have
varying
reasons
for
using
one
or
the
other.
