Introduction
As the United States continues to grow and build its influence as a World leader, there is
a growing demand in today’s job market for culturally competent and knowledgeable
individuals. The current ethnic groups residing in Greenville, NC include, White or Caucasian,
Black or African American, Hispanic, and Asian American; the majority populations being
Whites and African Americans. The Hispanic and Asian populations and their culture are highly
under -represented in our schools. As a family advocate our duty is to identify the strength and
needs of families and to be a mediator between the system and these said families. In order to
unite our schools cultural diversity must be established. In order to satisfy the intern project
requirement detailed by Building Hope, I propose a Bi- Weekly thirty minute cultural
competence sessions. During these sessions the children will be introduced to a variety of
countries from all seven continents across the globe. We will examine different aspects of each
countries culture including, food, art, politics, and music. The goal of these sessions is that the
children gain an understanding of cultural diversity, appreciate the similarities amongst
American families, and lastly, boost their human skills as a whole. Utilizing the strength based
approach; each child will explore what their contributions to the culture in their communities
may be. In this proposal you will find a detailed description of “The World Is Yours” cultural
Friday sessions lay out and proposed activities.

personal travels, experiences, and historical significance. During these cultural lessons the
