3. 7.Looking back at your preliminary task (the school

in the progression from it to the full product?
Here you can see the massive difference between the two mastheads. The ‘Sixth Form
Mag’ is much more generic, pointing towards NME/Q stylising. However I wanted to
attract a different audience which I feel I have done so with the ‘Tremolo’ title. The
title is much bigger, clearer, bolder, and stylish. I felt that the drop shadow which I
used before made the magazine look cheap and felt less professional. The idea wasn’t
to go to fancy like in the ‘Sixth Form Mag’ which I feel I have achieved in my music
magazine. I have learnt how to style the mast head in a basic, effective way so that I
am able to attract my target audience.
4. 7.Looking back at your preliminary task (the school

in the progression from it to the full product?
The stylising of the sub stories between the two magazine is very different once again. This you can in
all ways. In my school magazine the text is much larger, more clunky and less to the idea which I
wanted. In the school magazine some of the text doesn’t stand out from the back ground due to the
white. However I have learnt that using boxes behind the text can make it stand apart from the
background. On top of this, using thinner, smaller text helped to become more sophisticated. The use of
just artist names also helped to make the sub stories more sophisticated instead of blurting questions
over the cover which can be quite intense. Finally what I found that worked well was the use of ‘Special
Issue’ on my music magazine. This was because people like the idea of something being different and I
didn’t use this in my school magazine.

in the progression from it to the full product?
The use of something free was used by many professional magazines. When I decided
to employ this into my own idea I firstly used ‘Free Gift!’ in my school magazine on a
circle to make it look like a sticker. However when moving onto my music magazine I
found that this wasn’t the image I wanted to portray. Using ‘12 Free Downloads’ came
across as more sophisticated and felt as though it would attract a older, more mature
audience which is what I wanted. Also the use of the digits in larger text helped to
boldly show what people where getting. The idea of twelve free things comes across as
better than a ‘Free Gift!’. It also worked better for my target audience.
6. 7.Looking back at your preliminary task (the school
magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
When designing my school magazine I thought that the cover story would only have to be just
bigger text. However when moving onto my music magazine I realised that it didn’t stand out
to well. Bettering my old cover story was a lot of fun. This was because I was able to
experiment with lots of different text and then get to see the contrast at the end. The use of
the text in my music magazine is much more complicated, this helps to attract the audience
as the text is interesting and symbolises the band on to the front cover. The text is also much
bigger and the sub text at the bottom intrigues the reader. In this area of my magazine I feel
as though I have progressed the most.
7. 7.Looking back at your preliminary task (the school
magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The modelling in both magazines isn’t much different.
However the use of a middle shot in my music magazine
gave my more room to work with around the model to
put text etc. Also as you can seen in the picture the
background is much more interesting and helps fit the
mood which I wanted to portray. The use of the rustic
background was much better than the white one used in
my school magazine. This is because the lighting was
natural and easier to manipulate. On top of this I
wanted something more interesting to work with than a
white background which I also felt worked better. In the
old picture there was no editing used which shows
between the difference of my new magazine cover. The
new music magazine cover represents what I wanted
most from the magazine I was building compared to my
school magazine.
9. 7.Looking back at your preliminary task (the school
magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The difference between my two contents
pages in massive. As you can see my music
magazine has a background which I have
worked over the top of. This contrasts to the
school magazine where I just used a white
background. I felt this worked better with my
house style the music magazine. The
background also gives the page more depth
which I feel works better. The use of black
and white also makes the magazine more
stylish compared to the boring white
background.
10. 7.Looking back at your preliminary task (the school
magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The use of the columns worked much
better in my music magazine. The
faint boxes behind the text helped to
separate the stories from the
background and also gave it more
depth. This compares to the less
organised school magazine. I feel as
though I have learnt how to organises
my columns and stories in a much
more stylish and better way than in
my school magazine where it looks
jumbled and bland.
11. 7.Looking back at your preliminary task (the school
magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt
in the progression from it to the full product?
The pictures used in my music
magazine work better with the theme.
The ones before have busy
backgrounds and the editing is poor.
The images in my music magazine sit
with the house style and also work
well together with plain backgrounds.
Also I have learnt how to space them
out appropriately to even the contents
page out.
12. DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD
The double page spread wasn’t used in the
preliminary task. However during the process of the
course I have learnt how to make it effective. The
use of the big bold text at the top is simple and works
well with the rest of my magazine. Also the used of
the boxes behind the text helps to make it stand out
better. The image itself has been edited to give it
depth so that it makes things seem deeper. Finally in
this part of the magazine I felt I had put everything I
had already learnt into one simple area without any
mistakes.
