TITLE: GANG INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
POSITION: Case Manager 1, $27,327 – $35,038 DOQ
FLSA CLASS: Salaried (Exempt)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Street Outreach Program Director
QUALIFICATIONS: Incumbent must possess: a BA or BS degree in counseling or related
field, OR four years equivalent experience working with at-risk youth, preferably including one
year of gang related work; An understanding of, and sensitivity to cultural differences within the
organization's service population; A good driving record with six years driving experience; A
valid Washington State Driver License; Reliable transportation; and Personal auto insurance
levels at, or above, $100,000 individual and $300,000 combined single limit liability. In addition
to this, the incumbent must be able to pass and extensive background check with no history of
conviction, or perpetration of : child abuse or physical harm to another person.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides outreach, case management and facilitates multi-systemic wrap-
around services, for at-risk youth (ages 8-24) within rural and urban
Thurston County, focusing on preventing, intervening, and suppressing
gang involvement and youth violence.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND RELATED TASKS:
A. DIRECT SERVICES
1. Coordinate participant wrap-around services by collaborating with subcontracted
community based organizations and associations to ensure appropriate services are
provide, including but not limited to: healthcare, mental health, chemical dependency
(prevention and/or treatment) education, employment, safety, shelter, counseling, case
management, mentoring, life-skills training, food, clothing, transportation, pro-social
leisure and recreational activities, and other intervention and prevention services.
2. Complete an Individualized Service Plan for each youth following initial meeting(s) and
Needs Assessment.
3. Provide crisis intervention and guidance at-risk population served.
4. Provide services in a manner that expedites the meeting of contract requirements and
program outcomes.
5. Develop linkages with community agencies as a means to coordinate services.
6. Participate in the coordination of services and program development in a multi-
disciplinary team setting.
7. Act as a positive adult role model to clients including: ongoing feedback, accountability,
positive discipline, limit-setting and confrontation, emotional support, effective
communication skills, personal hygiene/self-care, healthy interpersonal relationships,
and conflict resolution skills.
8. Mediate conflict between clients when necessary.
9. Orient new clients to the program, thoroughly explaining program rules and
expectations, and assemble appropriate paperwork and liability release forms.

B. ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES
1. Develop linkages with community agencies as a means to coordinate appropriate wrap-
around services.
2. Participate in the coordination of services in a multi-disciplinary team setting.
3. Participate in required projects and agency meetings.
4. Perform other appropriate tasks related to your professional role as needed or directed.
5. Complete and maintain all required documentation in an accurate, professional, and
timely manner. This includes, but is not limited to: Needs Assessments, Individual
Service Plans, client files, case notes, monthly A-90 reports, and outcomes statistics.
6. Develop and maintain consistent positive relationships with all collateral contacts.
7. Act as the program’s representative and liaison by regularly attending designated task-
force/committee/coalition meetings.
8. Provide information for, and/or participate as directed in, the completion of quarterly
reports encompassing activities, tasks, accomplishments, and challenges.
9. Maintain an accurate knowledge of available community resources.
C. OTHER DUTIES
1. Attend consultation and program review meetings with JRA as directed.
2. Attend relevant training conferences and meetings.
3. Participate in developing outcome measures as directed.
4. Participate in local youth violence or gang prevention consortia meetings as directed.
5. Participate, as directed, in quarterly teleconference calls with other contractors to
exchange information on project implantation and challenges.
6. Follow agency policies and procedures, RCWs, WACs, and other external regulations
7. Follow CYS’ and NASW Code of Ethics.
8. Be a flexible member of the agency team in order to accomplish overall agency goals.
9. Participate in creating and maintaining a workplace that values diversity and is free of
