The document summarizes a collaborative task completed by five students. It includes translations of passages about smart grid technology by four of the students. It also includes a chart completed by one student comparing the differences between methods, strategies, and techniques in education. The students reflected on challenges they faced during the translation tasks, such as unknown vocabulary words.

Task 1 = TRANSLATION PARAGRAPH 2
Smart Grid technology basically involves the application of a computer
system to the electricity network. The computer system can be used to
collect information about supply and demand and improve engineer’s ability
to manage the system. With better information about electricity demand, the
network will be able to increase the amount of electricity delivered per unit
generated, leading to potential reductions in fuel needs and carbon
emissions. Moreover, the computer system will assist in reducing operational
and maintenance costs.
Task 2 = REFLECTION:
There were a few words that I couldn’t translate for my own, so, I searched
the meaning of these, although I asked to my sister about these words and I
ask her some examples.
My advantage is that my family know how to speak English well and they
help me sometimes when I don’t know something; however, I also use the
dictionary.
3. Method Strategy Technique
Method is a way something is done. Perhaps for
routine tasks.
The method is based on a select approach and it’s
the presentation of language in an operational way.
A method is a description of the way that
information or a behavior is carried forward or
consolidated during the instructional process.
It is classified after the type of Interaction in the
classroom.
Examples
“no interaction”. Lecture
“Teacher centered interaction”. Interactive lecture
“Group centered interaction”. Group work
Strategy usually requires some sort of planning.
You’d probably use strategy when faced with a new
station, ie, the strategy to win a game.
A plan of action designed to achieve an oriental alm
In education, strategy defines the basic procedure of
how the content is elaborated during the beached
process
The cognitive approach
The Cognitive approach is expository
The affective approach.
The affective approach is based on “discovering”,
and uses the curiosity of the student to let him find
out something on his own ing.
Technique es a procedure or skill for completing a specific
task, I’d imagine this would be used for predictable events, ie,
solving a long division equation.
A technique is detailed list of rules or a guideline for any
(teaching) activity.
It is based on the description of steps on do’s and don’ts, and
can often be linked to a method or strategy
Examples
With mind mapping you apply guidelines for devising content
in a holistic way. This is a technique that can be used in an
individual working situation, In a group work, or by the teacher
as a means of demonstrating something
Brainstorming is a group centered interaction method. The
brainstorming technique describes a way of collecting ideas of
information in a creative uninhibited way.

Smart Grid technology offers benefits to the consumer too. They will be
able to collect real-time information on their energy use for each
appliance. Varying tariffs throughout the day will give customers the
incentive to use appliances at times when supply greatly exceeds demand,
leading to great reductions in bills. For example, they may use their
washing machines at night. Smart meters can also be connected to the
internet or telephone system, allowing customers to switch appliances on
or off remotely. Furthermore, if houses are fitted with the apparatus to
generate their own power, appliances can be set to run directly from the
on-site power source, and any excess can be sold to the grid.
TASK 2. REFLECTION
When I was translating the text, I was trying to make a
relationship between the vocabulary and the context because
it’s easier to understand what it is about. Some of the
problems I faced was the meaning of the words that are part
of a technical language related to the electricity field. The
translation technique that I used was modulation “using a
phrase that is different in the source and target languages to
convey the same idea”: Smart Grid technology offers benefits
5. METHOD STRATEGY TECHNIQUE
It’s a systematic way of doing
something through an
arrangement of steps.
A generalized set of classroom
specifications for accomplishing
linguistic objectives.
Tend to be concerned primarily
with teacher and student roles
and behaviors and secondarily
with such features as linguistic
and subject-matter objectives,
sequencing, and materials.
Specific methods
of approaching a
problem or task,
modes of operation
for achieving a
particular end, or
planned design for
controlling and
manipulating
certain
information.
It’s the specific procedure
used to complete a task.
Implementational – that which
actually takes place in a
classroom. It is particular
trick, stratagem, or
contrivance used to
accomplish an immediate
objective. Must be consistent
with a method, and therefore
in harmony with an approach
as well.

Although Smart Technology is still in its infancy, pilot schemes to promote
and test it are already underway. Consumers are currently testing the new
smart meters which can be used in their homes to manage electricity
use. There are also a number of demonstrations being planned to show
how the smart technology could practically work, and trials are in place to
test the new electrical infrastructure. It is likely that technology will be
added in 'layers', starting with 'quick win' methods which will provide initial
carbon savings, to be followed by more advanced systems at a later
date. Cities are prime candidates for investment into smart energy, due to
the high population density and high energy use. It is here where Smart
Technology is likely to be promoted first, utilizing a range of sustainable
power sources, transport solutions and an infrastructure for charging
electrically powered vehicles. The infrastructure is already changing
fast. By the year 2050, changes in the energy supply will have transformed
our homes, our roads and our behavior.
TASK 2. REFLECTION
when i started the translation the most difficult was to begin, once you begin then it
becomes a little more natural and it flows, while i was working on the translation,
one difficult part was to find the correct word to change it in to the target language
without alterin what is being said, proper nouns make it a little hard too, because one
needs to take into account not only the translation itself, but also the interpretation of
wath you wat to convey without changing the meaning, another difficulty is when
you encounter untranslatable words, then i needed to resort to interpretation.

TASK 3. CHART
METHOD STRATEGY TECHINIQUE
A method is an application of an approach in the
context of language teaching, there are different
method, grammar translation, audio-lingual method,
as well as the communicative approach, they all use
different techniques to show the students diverse
ways to acquiere the target language, some are more
effective than others, also some are more prefered by
the students which it teams is an important way to
mesure the effectiveness of method.
when it comes to the differences, a method is the
way or an application of approach to teaching
languages.
Learning strategies are defined as specific
actions, behavior, steps, or techniques such
as seeking out conversation partners, or
giving oneself encouragement to tackle a
difficult language task used by students to
enhance their own leaming
(scarcella y oxford, 1992, p.63)
in this sense they refer to procedures and
specific activities the teacher takes into
account or does in his class to convey
knowledge of the target language.
the strategy is the specific steps taken
to implement a method.
A technique is a single activity that comes from
a procedure in class. different methods employ
various techniques, we can think of techniques
as everything from sending a note home to the
parents to giving out points for good behavior
are examples of teaching techniques, that in
term help the teachers manage class in a more
effective way.
A technique comes from a strategy and it
is implemented to facilitate the process
within the classroom with behavior and
activities.

with these changes comes a range of challenges. the first involves
managing the supply and demand. sources of renewable energy, such
as wind, wave and solar, are notoriously unpredictable, and nuclear
power, which is also set to increase as nations switch to alternative
energy sources, is inflexible. with oil and gas, it is relatively simple to
increase the supply of energy to match the increasing demand during
peak times of the day or year. with alternative sources, this is far more
difficult, and may lead to blackouts or system collapse. potential
solutions include investigating new and efficient ways to store energy and
encouraging consumers to use electricity at off-peak times. a second
problem is the fact that many renewable power generation sources are
located in remote areas, such as windy uplands and coastal regions,
where there is currently a lack of electrical infrastructure. new
infrastructures therefore must be built. thankfully, with improved smart
technology, this can be done more efficiently by reducing the
reinforcement or construction costs.

TRANSLATION PARAGRAPH 1
The next few decades will see great changes in the way
energy is supplied and used. In some major oil
producing nations, 'peak oil' has already been reached,
and there are increasing fears of global
warming. Consequently, many countries are focusing
on the switch to a low carbon economy. This transition
will lead to major changes in the supply and use of
electricity. Firstly, there will be an increase in overall
demand, as consumers switch from oil and gas to
electricity to power their homes and vehicles. Secondly,
there will be an increase in power generation, not only
in terms of how much is generated, but also how it is
generated, as there is growing electricity generation
from renewable sources. To meet these challenges,
countries are investing in Smart Grid technology. This
system aims to provide the electricity industry with a
better understanding of power generation and demand,
and to use this information to create a more efficient
power network.
