Question 4 2
1. +-
How did you use new media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages? and Jade
By Liv, Max
2. Research
When researching for our trailer, we used many
websites:
Google and google images- this helped us create
our magazine cover as we were able to see
others.
Youtube- to watch other trailers and again help
us create our trailer as we could base our ideas
around them. film trailer
IMDB- so we could read description of films to
show what point they get across. internet move
database
3. Research
Blogger- we scanned through other people’s blogs, as they
had done the same sort of study case and we could relate
back to it. Existing Blog
Wikipedia- this is to use for terminology as to what would
link well with say the ‘thriller’ genre. Definitions
Empire- to gain an understanding of the conventions used
in a typical movie magazine. Existing Products
Tumblr- relates back to blogger as it helped us gain an
understanding as to what is needed. Existing Products
Music websites- this is so we found a decent piece of
music and good sound effects to put in our trailer. Sound
Effects
4. Construction
We used many programmes in construction, which allowed us
to create each individual piece for our trailer, magazine cover
and posters.
Photoshop was a major part in allowing us to develop our
work further. We were able to scan our questionnaires onto
the programme, and knowing about audience feedback was
crucial due to us needing to develop or take away parts.
We also used photoshop to enhance certain pictures that
could be used for our magazine cover. So if we weren’t happy
with a certain part, we could easily suit it to our needs, so it
fitted perfectly into the cover.
The picture at the top shows the enhanced photo, and how
we adapted it, although we didn’t use it for our front cover, we
felt if we could perhaps change a photo, it could be easily
used or not.
5. Construction
InDesign was used as the key development for the
front cover of the magazine, the poster and the
development of fonts and colours.
For audience feedback, we used many fonts for our
deciding title. Around 5 were used, and then of
course, the font that was most popular, was used for
the cover and poster.
We also used InDesign to create a 3d poster, this is
to keep up with other cinema media.
InDesign was crucial for developing our front cover,
as we had to use font and photos and integrate
them both together.
6. Construction
iMovie- was crucial in creating our trailer, it allowed us to
add in pictures, transitions and music. This picture shows
the development of our trailer, using the programme
iMovie. It also allowed us to edit each part of our film
throughout the entire producing of it, which was very
helpful if we weren’t entirely satisfied with parts of the
trailer.
Dafont.com was really helpful in the range of texts they had
to offer. We used one called double feature which
represented the look of blood and really set up our
magazine cover.
Of course the camera was the crucial element needed to
allow us to film our trailer.
7. Props
In the development for construction we also used props.
This was to enhance our film to the best of our ability on a
low budget, to show us as upcoming, independent, film
directors.
We used a knife for the stalker, to show him as a threat to
the vulnerable girls.
The mobile phone was used to show the ‘unknown caller’
and allowed to create a suspicious atmosphere and also to
develop a stalker.
Fake blood was used to smear on the knife, of course to
represent that someone’s life has been taken, yet still
raises questions as to whether they are alive or not.

9. Planning
Scanning- We used the scanner throughout the development of
the magazine and also the poster.
We used the scanner to scan Max’s face, which created the
perfect poster picture! This is because it created a grainy and
blurred vision of his face. This was vital due to the fact we
wanted to keep his face a mystery.
We also used the scanner to upload audience feedback, and
this allowed us to further our skills, and change certain things
people thought weren’t working.
Blogger was key for our planning as we could upload certain
things we had produced in our lesson and could easily pick up
from where we left off. We know all our essential products have
been uploaded and can easily see how we have developed
throughout the months.
10. Evaluation
Facebook was great for evaluation because it allowed friends to
give honest feedback, rather than it not being honest which wasn’t
what we wanted. Our friends were allowed to write a comment and
also like the video, which is exactly we needed to allow us to further
our ideas and taking on constructive criticism.
We also did a focus group and this was when we created a
questionnaire and played the trailer on the projector and the rest of
the group watched it through twice and answered the questionnaire.
Our blogger was of course huge in evaluation as it was open to the
public. Stats for the audience were very high.
11. Youtube
Youtube was also key in the
development of evaluation because
we wanted audience feedback. Like
facebook, it allows the audience to
feedback to us, and give us key
criticism.
The views can effect the popularity of
the trailer and can give us a positive
outlook.
