Gender Roles
Since time immemorial, genders have been appointed different roles. Traditionally, the males were assigned roles of power and authority while women were assigned nurturing and inferior roles. However, times have changed and today it’s all about gender equality. A majority of us agree that what a man can do, a woman can equally do. In my essay, I chose to pick a woman who has had phenomenal impact on my life and who has proven time and again that gender is not a limiting factor to attaining remarkable greatness. The woman of choice is my mother.
In reference to bringing out the greatness of my mother who is a woman who has broken countless gender limiting rules and consequently impacted on the society profoundly, I chose readings of King Hatshepsut daughter of King Thutmose I. This King was the first born daughter in her father’s house and later took his thrown with courage, ambition, and skill. Hatshepsut was a one of the greatest leaders, builders and founder of one of Egypt’s greatest Dynasty. She ruled between 1478-1458BC. There was however a secret that was gender based, Hatshepsut was a woman, not a man in a time where a man’s role was supreme and that of a woman was inferior.
The story starts off when Thutmose II died and left behind his sister, wife, Hatshepsut and son Thutmose III. First, defying acts of Hatshepsut was in the contempt that she held her

She later went on to plot a vision of her late father that appeared to her mother and claimed her as the rightful heir of his thrown. With the favor of the high temple priests, and her choice to adopt and portray a manly side that the people could accept, she finally heard her way. Hatshepsut had the right by blood to be king, so she assumed the kingly roles totally. She was seen wearing the Pharaoh’s fake beard, wearing the Uraeus cobra crown, the king’s headdress and proudly possessing the shendyt kilt. Often, her monuments captured her legs astride like other kings, and she played her role to absolute confidence.
True to the phrase ‘what a man can do a woman can do’ King Hatshepsut build a series of temples from Nubia to Sinai, she exercised bravely, and in her two decades of ruling she was a political guru who maintained a peace filled kingdom a reason that earns her a remarkable place among other noble kings unlike other female pharaohs such as Nitokerty and Soberiknefru. Though after her death her stepson made it his life goal to destroy her monuments, her periodicals, and tarnish her name, this woman stands out years later as rock and inspiration to many women world over.
In relation to Hatshepsut, my mother has balanced her career life and raised a beautiful family, she let nobody put her down, to great extents, and she too is superwoman. As for readers of this essay, the lesson here is gender is not, never ha ...

In relation to Hatshepsut, my mother has balanced her career
life and raised a beautiful family, she let nobody put her down,
to great extents, and she too is superwoman. As for readers of
this essay, the lesson here is gender is not, never has been, and
never will be a limiting factor to greatness. This is proven by
the two women who greatly inspire me, King Hatshepsut and my
mother.
