1. SEVERAL TIPS ON HOW
TO TEACH NARRATIVE
TEXT WRITING
(9 GRADERS)
BY: WIWIN MUHAMMAD
2. 1. WRITING SHORT STORIES
• Ask them to work in groups (3 or 4),
to help those who are not quite
confident with their writing, but the
short story has to be written
individually. Check the outline of the
story, don't forget to take a look at
their progress and make neccessary
correction. Bind the whole stories and
you get a short story compilation
from each class.
3. 2. WRITING
CHILDREN/BEDTIME STORIES
• Students can choose whether they
want to work individually or in
groups. Some students like having
friends to work with, while others
prefer working on their own.
Always check for the outline and draft
before printing and binding. Don't
forget to ask them to add some
pictures for illustration.
4. 3. WRITING GUIDED STORIES
• Give the students a piece of paper
with some pictures for illustration in
it. Write "Once upon a time/Long
long time go/Once........" in the first
paragraph, "One day, ........" in the
second paragraph, and "Finally/In
the end?So, ........" in the last one.
Students look for the inspiration from
the pictures you provide.
5. 4. WRITING CHAINED
STORIES
• Students work in groups.
• Start a story on a piece of paper with
one sentence for the orientation (e.g
Once upon time, there was a little
frog who lived in a small pond near
the forest.)
• The first group add a sentence, then
pass the paper to the next group, and
so forth until the story finishes.
