Muslim Journeys
This fall, the library presents...
a common conversation through
readings, group discussions and other
special programs
One Book, One Community
First time for Westerville
Turning the pages together
The One Book, One Community program invites all community members
to read the same book and come together to discuss it in a variety of
settings. Readings, group discussions and other events will put us all on
the same page.
Our selected title
The One Book title is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie
Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Crafted as a series of
letters, the nationally bestselling novel is a story of love and hope set
against the backdrop of a world emerging from the shadow of World War
II. Clever quips and endearing characters abound on the English island of
Guernsey.
A good summer read
You can get a head start by checking out or reserving a copy of the One
Book selection and enjoying it as part of your summer reading.
Live & online discussions plus grand finale
A full schedule of One Book programs will begin September 1. Mark
your calendar for the grand finale when author Annie Barrows visits on
October 7. For program details, visit www.explore.westervillelibrary.org/

Directions
Notes from Library Director Don W. Barlow
Year after year, the Friends of the Westerville Public Library donate hundreds of hours of
volunteer service. Thanks to their generosity and efforts, our library is able to reach new
heights in serving the people of Westerville.
These dedicated, talented and enthusiastic people operate the Friends Shoppe, selling
used books and many other gift items. They also stock the mallway bookcases with
donated books for sale.
Due to their hard work, they are able to provide funds that sponsor prizes for young
readers and programs that entertain all ages in the summer. Our Friends also provide
funds for some of the library’s major purchases including the Outreach delivery vans,
chairs and tables for the library meeting rooms, and a myriad of other programs and
services enjoyed by our community.
On July 11th the Friends will once again be hosting their signature event, the Friends Ice
Cream Social. This is a milestone year as the social is celebrating its 20th anniversary. We
hope you will join us for this great event and show your appreciation for this outstanding
organization.

Day, who passed
away before

of the project,
donated a part of his uniform for the case.
Items displayed include the old jail cell log
book and key. The Fire Department has
provided firefighting garb for its display.
Both displays contain old photographs.
