What Does Your Music Say
1. Does your music say something different than
your lyrics?
I know this is going to be technical but here is an example of the subtle way
“contemporary” music corrupts and sets a sad nostalgic tone. I am in the process
of writing a bookon this subject, but for now I thought I’d show how this works.

Hillsong has a total of 10 spots forthe root tonic chord G, of those ten 6 have been
changed to E minor. This makes the majority of the songhave a troubled,
questioning tone.
Notice the use of “G”in the hymn: 10 Chord changes with 6 of them returning to
the root tonic G. In the hymn the majority tone is the key diatonic key signature,
thus the mood created is a settled tone with every conflict (or tension chord)
resolved by the key signature.
One other thing to note is they claim this is in the key of G. However, when you
lay out all the Chords and see their placement in the song you will realize it is
actual written in the relative minor key of E minor.
