The Benediction of Blessing Num 6:22-27
1. The Benediction of Blessing
Salutation: salute, introduction, a formal greeting.
Message: the body of information intended to effect
action.
Doxology: is a liturgical formula of praise to God.
Man voicing worship to God.
Benediction: means to say good, to voice good
thoughts, to pronounce.
What makes “good” good is when it is from God the
source of Truth; otherwise it is simply flattery.
You can quickly see these elements in the
Pauleen Epistles; However,he borrowed it from
God’s dealing with Israel.
In Exodus 3:6 we see God’s Salutationto Moses, “I
am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”. Introduction
complete.
2. Very quickly God moves to The Body of His
Message- (Ex 3:20); Israel’s deliverance from
Pharaoh and Egypt.
His message becomes very personal in Ex 20, ten
general commandments are dictated.
In the book of Leviticus, a rapid succession of Sub-
Points are added to the commandments, leaving no
exceptions unaccounted for.
The first 6 chapters of Numbers it appears a
legal census is taken to require everyone to
acknowledge their receipt of God’s message.
Then as though you had received all this in a text
message on your phone; God adds a literary smiley
face at the end.- the Benediction.

Num 6:22-27
3. Num 6:22-27
22) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
23) Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On
this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying
unto them,
24) The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
25) The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and
be gracious unto thee:
26) The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee,
and give thee peace.
27) And they shall put my name upon the children
of Israel; and I will bless them.
I. The Benediction Spokesman- Num 6:22-23
Num 6:22-23 And the LORD spake unto Moses,
saying,
23) Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On
this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying
unto them,
4. God appointed the priests to bless the people. David
seems to allude to this fact when he says,
"We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord.”
(Ps 118:26)
With these words, the priests were the appointed
ambassadors of God. As if the priests bore from His
own mouth the commandment to bless.
Luke shows that this was truly fulfilled in Christ the
High Priest of our profession. The last thing He did
on earth was with uplifted hands to bless His
disciples.
Luke 24:50-51 50 And he led them out as far
as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and
blessed them.
51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them,
he was parted from them, and carried up into
heaven.
Num 6:23 Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons,
saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of
Israel, saying unto them
5. They were commanded to pronounce audibly
the words from God’s lips verbatim. The
concentrated, undiluted, powerful words from
God’s lips.
This Benediction is just as inspired and powerful
as: Thou shalt have no other gods before me;
it shall be a perpetual statute for your
generations throughout all your dwellings, that
ye eat neither fat nor blood.
As ambassador, the Priest represents
something bigger than himself.
II. The Benediction Source- Num 6:24a
Num 6:24 The LORD bless thee…
Ps 49:16-18 16 Be not thou afraid when one is
made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away:
his glory shall not descend after him.
6. 18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and
men will praise thee, when thou doest well to
thyself.
The source carries an eternal steadfast
guarantee.
III. The Benediction Security- Num 6:24b
Num 6:24 The LORD bless thee, and keep thee:
He is the sole defender and protector of His people.
Ps 121:4-7 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall
neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade
upon thy right hand.
6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon
by night.
7 The LORD shall preserve thee fromall evil: he
shall preserve thy soul.
7. Isa 42:6 I the LORD have called thee in
righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will
keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the
people, for a light of the Gentiles;
Phil 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all
understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus.
1Pet 1:5 Who are kept by the power of God
through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in
the last time.
Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you
from falling, and to present you faultless before the
presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
This benediction is not of this world so it is
out of this world.
8. IV. The Benediction Splendor- Num6:25a
Num 6:25 The LORD make his face shine upon
thee, and be gracious unto thee:
Ps 4:6 There be many that say, Who will shew
us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy
countenance upon us.
Ps 21:6 For thou hast made him most blessed
for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad
with thy countenance.
Ps 44:3 For they got not the land in possession
by their own sword, neither did their own arm
save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm,
and the light of thy countenance, because
thou hadst a favour unto them.
Eph 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made
both one, and hath broken down the middle
wall of partitionbetweenus;
9. This heavenly benediction can condescend to
men of low estate.
V. The Benediction Sympathy-Num 6:25b
Num 6:25 The LORD make his face shine upon
thee, and be gracious unto thee:
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which
cannot be touched with the feeling of our
infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as
we are, yet without sin.
Ps 103:11 For as the heaven is high above the
earth, so great is his mercy toward them that
fear him.

the LORD will give grace and glory: no good
thing will he withhold from them that walk
uprightly.
10. Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace,
wherein he hath made us acceptedin the
beloved.
Sympathy is good but this benediction goes
one step farther and offers a supernatural
answer to life’s ever-changing circumstances.
VI. The Benediction Serenity- Num 6:26
Num 6:26 The LORD lift up his countenance upon
thee, and give thee peace.
Humans have a countenance problem:
Gen 4:5 …Cain was very wroth, and his
countenance fell.
Gen 4:6 And the LORD said unto Cain… why is
thy countenance fallen?
11. Gen 31:2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of
Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as
before.
Gen 31:5 And said unto them, I see your father's
countenance, that it is not toward me as before;
but the God of my father hath been with me.
No human countenance like God’s:
Matt 28:2-3 2 And, behold, there was a great
earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended
from heaven, and came and rolled back the
stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his
raiment white as snow:
Rev 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven
stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp
twoedged sword: and his countenance was as
the sun shineth in his strength.
Supernatural power in God’s countenance:
12. Ps 21:6 For thou hast made him most blessed
for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad
with thy countenance.
Ps 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and
why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in
God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his
countenance.
Acts 2:28 Thou hast made known to me the
ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with
thy countenance.

thou persuadest me to be a Christian.
Eph 3:14-16 14 For this cause I bow my knees
unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and
earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the

might by his Spirit in the inner man;

has ever conceived.
Conclusion Pr 10:22
Without the Introduction to God there is no
message from Him;
Without a message from Him there is no
benediction.
The reason for the rules is the blessing of the
benediction.
Prov 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich,
and he addeth no sorrow with it.
