Ps 4:8
8I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou,
LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
I will both lay me down in peace
I. Peace
Providing peace for his creation is a characteristic of God;
it comes through adherence to God’s will as expressed in
his word.
A. The Provision of Peace
Peach is provided through…
1) Obedience to God’s Word
2Kgs 5:13-14,19
13 And his servants came near, and spake unto him,
and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do
some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it?
how much rather then, when he saith to thee,
Wash, and be clean?
2. 14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven
times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of
God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a
little child, and he was clean.
19 And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he
departed from him a little way.
Job 22:21-22
21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace:
thereby good shall come unto thee.
22 Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, and
lay up his words in thine heart.
Ps 85:8
I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will
speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let
them not turn again to folly.
Isa 54:13
And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and
great shall be the peace of thy children.
3. 2) Obedience to God’s Laws
Lev 26:3
If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my
commandments, and do them;
Lev 26:6
And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie
down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid
evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go
through your land.
Ps 119:165
Great peace have they which love thy law: and
nothing shall offend them.
Isa 48:18
O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments!
then had thy peace been as a river, and thy
righteousness as the waves of the sea:
3) Provision of The Law
Deut 30:15-16
15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good,
and death and evil;
4. 16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD
thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his
commandments and his statutes and his judgments,
that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy
God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to
possess it.
4) Provision of A House of God
Ps 23:6
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the
days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the
LORD for ever.
Ps 92:13
Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall
flourish in the courts of our God.
Ps 122:1
I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the
house of the LORD.
5. B. The Place of Peace
1.In God’s presence
Josh 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a
good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou
dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest.
Ps 29:11
The LORD will give strength unto his people; the
LORD will bless his people with peace.
Isa 41:10
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed;
for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help
thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my
righteousness.
Jer 30:10-11
10 Therefore fear thou not, O my servant Jacob, saith
the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will
save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of
their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in
rest, and be quiet, and none shall make him afraid.
6. 11 For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee:
though I make a full end of all nations whither I have
scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee:
but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave
thee altogether unpunished.
2.In Captivity
Judg 2:14
And the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and
he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that
spoiled them, and he sold them into the hands of
their enemies round about, so that they could not any
longer stand before their enemies.
Judg 2:18
And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the
LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of
the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge:
for it repented the LORD because of their groanings
by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed
them.
Jer 29:7
And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused
you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the
7. LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have
peace.
Jer 31:1-2
1 At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God
of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my
people.
2 Thus saith the LORD, The people which were left of
the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel,
when I went to cause him to rest.
3.In Suffering
Ps 119:50
This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath
quickened me.
Ezek 37:10
So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the
breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up
upon their feet, an exceeding great army.
4.In Poverty
Ps 10:14
Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and
spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth
8. himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the
fatherless.
Ps 12:5
For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the
needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in
safety from him that puffeth at him.
Ps 34:6
This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and
saved him out of all his troubles.
Prov 17:1
Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than
an house full of sacrifices with strife.
Isa 14:29-30
29 Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod
of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the
serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his
fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.
30 And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the
needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root
with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.
9. 5.With Enemies
Gen 32:28
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob,
but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God
and with men, and hast prevailed.
Gen 33:4
And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and
fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
Prov 16:7
When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even
his enemies to be at peace with him.
C. The Permission for Peace
Rom 5:1
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with
God through our Lord Jesus Christ: R.I.P only applies
to a living Christian
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not
as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your
heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
10. Col 3:15
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the
which also ye are called in one body; and be ye
thankful.
