preaching the gospelof the kingdom4:17
,and healing all manner of
sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
4:24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all
sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those
which were possessedwith devils, and those which were lunatic, and those
that had the palsy; and he healed them.
he healed:
possessedwith devils
those which were lunatic
had the palsy
Devil possessionis one category. People can be lunatic or have physical
issues that are not connected to devil possession.
4:25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and
[from] Decapolis, and [from] Jerusalem, and [from] Judaea, and [from]
beyond Jordan.
Mark
1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day,he went out,
and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Isa 5
8 Woe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till
there be no place, that they may be placed alone in the midst of the
earth!9 In mine ears said the LORD of hosts, Of a truth many houses
shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant. 10 Yea, ten
acres of vineyardshall yield one bath, and the seed of an homer shall
yield an ephah.
2. 1:36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
1:37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All [men] seekfor
thee.
1:38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may
preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
1:39 And he preached in their synagoguesthroughout all Galilee, and
cast out devils.
Luke
4:42 And when it was day, he departed and went into a desertplace: and
the people sought him, and came unto him, and stayed him, that he should
not depart from them.
4:43 And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other
cities also: for therefore am I sent.
4:44 And he preached in the synagogues of Galilee.
synagoguesof Galilee…
At this early stage of His ministry Jesus is focusedon the Jews. The
kingdom of God is preached in the synagogues.
John 1:11 He came unto his own, and his own receivedhim not.
Matt 10:5-8 5 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them,
saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the
Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the
house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of
heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead,
cast out devils: freely ye have received, freelygive.
First Leper Healed
3. Matthew 8:2-4

Luke 5:12-16
John (no reference)
Matthew
8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if
thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
8:3 And Jesus put forth [his] hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou
clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
8:4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, show
thyself to the priest, and offerthe gift that Moses commanded, fora
testimony unto them.
This man is a Jew. He was responsible to the law of Moses.
Mark
1:40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down
to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
1:41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth [his] hand, and
touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
1:42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed
from him, and he was cleansed.
1:43 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
1:44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way,
show thyself to the priest, and offerfor thy cleansing those things which
Moses commanded,fora testimony unto them.
1:45 But he went out, and began to publish [it] much, and to blaze abroad
the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city,
but was without in desertplaces:and they came to him from every quarter.
Luke
5:12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full
of leprosy:who seeing Jesus fell on [his] face, and besoughthim, saying,
Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
5:13 And he put forth [his] hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou
clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
5:14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and show thyself to the
priest, and offerfor thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a
testimony unto them.
4. Lev 7:21 Moreover the soul that shall touch any unclean thing, as the
uncleanness of man, or any unclean beast, or any abominable
unclean thing, and eat of the flesh of the sacrifice of peace offerings,
which pertain unto the LORD, even that soul shall be cut off from his
people.
The laws concerning leprosy:
Lev 13:44-47 44 He is a leprous man, he is unclean: the priest shall
pronounce him utterly unclean; his plague is in his head. 45 And the
leper in whom the plague is, his clothes shall be rent, and his head
bare, and he shall put a coveringupon his upper lip, and shall cry,
Unclean, unclean. 46 All the days wherein the plague shall be in him
he shall be defiled; he is unclean: he shall dwell alone; without the
camp shall his habitation be. 47 The garment also that the plague of
leprosy is in, whether it be a woollen garment, or a linen garment;
Lev 14:10-11 10 And on the eighth day he shall take two he lambs
without blemish, and one ewe lamb of the first year without blemish,
and three tenth deals of fine flour for a meat offering, mingledwith
oil, and one log of oil. 11 And the priest that maketh him clean shall
present the man that is to be made clean, and those things, before
the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation:
Lev 14:14 And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass
offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him
that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and
upon the great toe of his right foot:
The priest could only touch the leper after it had dissipated; and then only by
means of shed blood as a barrier.
Hag 2:12-13 12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment,
and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any
meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No. 13
Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of
5. these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answeredandsaid, It shall
be unclean.
Jesus could touch a leper and not be unclean because: Matt 8:17 That it might
be fulfilledwhich was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took
our infirmities,and bare our sicknesses.
In His Messianic position as High PriestJesus could supply and apply the
remedy for leprosyand sin.
Heb 3:1 Wherefore, holybrethren, partakers of the heavenlycalling,
consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, ChristJesus;
Heb 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made
an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannotbe touched
with the feelingof our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like
as we are, yet without sin.
1Pet 2:21-24 21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ
also sufferedfor us, leavingus an example, that ye should follow his
steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23
Who, when he was reviled, revilednot again; when he suffered, he
threatenednot; but committed himself to him that judgeth
righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on
the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness:
by whose stripes ye were healed.
(“were” the payment has been made but the process is not complete
until Jesus has possession of his property)
In this age you receivedspiritual healingat salvation. Your spiritwas
made alive and will never die [John 11:26]. You no longer have a
spiritual problemwith God. You may have a spiritual problemwith
your flesh and the Devil, but as far as God is concernedspirituallyyou
are healed, you have the right to come to the throne of grace at any
time you want. Your body has been paid for as a condemned
6. buildingwaitingreconstruction. For the Church Age your atonement
is not complete till Christmakes your flesh incorruptible andglorified
just like His.
25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returnedunto the
Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
Heb 13:17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit
yourselves:for they watch for your souls, as they that must give
account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is
unprofitable for you.
Doctrinally:
Before the crucifixion, Jesus performed acts of healingin fulfillment
of Isa. 53:4, so the Jews wouldknow the one who made physical
healingpossible was the one who was going to die for their sins.
Isa 53:4-5 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carriedour
sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and
afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was
bruisedfor our iniquities: the chastisementof our peace was upon
him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Transgressions: againstman and God that made us guilty (not sick)
Iniquities: against God and teaching man to offend God
Chastisement of our peace: The penalty for being Gods enemy. Now we
have peace with God in Christ’s payment.
Jesus Heals Man Let Through Roof
Matthew 9:1-8
Mark 2:1-12
7. Luke 5:17-26
John (no reference)
Matthew
9:1 And he entered into a ship, and passed over, and came into his own
city.
9:2 And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a
bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of
good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.
9:3 And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves,This [man]
blasphemeth.
9:4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your
hearts?
9:5 For whether is easier, to say, [Thy] sins be forgiven thee; or to say,
Arise, and walk?
9:6 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to
forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed,
and go unto thine house.
9:7 And he arose, and departed to his house.
9:8 But when the multitude saw [it], they marvelled, and glorified God,
which had given such power unto men.
Mark
2:1 And again he entered into Capernaum after [some]days; and it was
noised that he was in the house.
2:2 And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there
was no room to receive [them], no, not so much as about the door:and he
preached the word unto them.
2:3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was
borne of four.
2:4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they
uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken [it] up, they
let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
2:5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy
sins be forgiven thee.
2:6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their
hearts,
2:7 Why doth this [man] thus speak blasphemies?who can forgive sins but
God only?
2:8 And immediatelywhen Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so
8. reasoned within themselves,he said unto them, Why reason ye these
things in your hearts?
2:9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, [Thy] sins be forgiven
thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed,and walk?
2:10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to
forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)
2:11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine
house.
2:12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before
them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying,
We never saw it on this fashion.
Luke
5:17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there
were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of
every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the
Lord was [present] to heal them.
5:18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a
palsy: and they sought [means] to bring him in, and to lay [him] before him.
5:19 And when they could not find by what [way] they might bring him in
because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down
through the tiling with [his] couch into the midstbefore Jesus.
5:20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are
forgiven thee.
5:21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is
this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
5:22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto
them, What reason ye in your hearts?
5:23 Whetheris easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up
and walk?
5:24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to
forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and
take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
5:25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon
he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
5:26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God,and were filled with
fear, saying, We have seenstrange things to day.
