. Urbanization or Urban Drift is the physical growth of
urban areas as a result of global change.
Urbanization is the shift from a rural to an urban
society, bringing a large concentration of people into
towns and cities. This process usually occurs when a
nation is still developing.
 In the urban migration of the last century, much has
been lost. It is not only people that have
migrated, but our whole thought process has
migrated as well. More than a migration away from
rural living, it has also been a migration away from
the vital understanding that such a venue brings.
The chief cause of urbanization in Ghana is the new
economic opportunities it brings to people and
government. Workers move to urban centers to find
better economic opportunities. The Industrial
Revolution and the subsequent shift from agricultural
jobs to factory jobs made it profitable for companies
to locate their factories in large cities with plenty of
local workers. There often is a severe lack of
resources in rural areas, such as medical
technology, which further drives people to the cities
 POSITIVE:
 1. increased access to health care and food for people living in those areas.
 2. An urban environment creates an opportunity for bigger and better community
resources such as libraries, theaters, sports arenas, etc. Big cities can afford things that
small towns can't.
 NEGATIVE:
 1.Rapid housing construction leads to overcrowding and slums, which experience major
problems such as poverty, poor sanitation, unemployment and high crime rates.
Additionally, strains on important natural resources, such as water supply, leads to higher
prices and general environmental sustainability.
 2. Urban-dwellers suffer the psychological degradation that comes from depending on
other people to accomplish the activities of daily life, from transportation to education
to entertainment.
 Bridge the gap between rural areas and
urban areas by sending schools, health
care facilities, entertainment, to these
urban areas.
 The country should be decentralized in
the sense that certain industries should
be moved to the rural areas.
