Dr. David L. Soltz, President
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania
Carver Hall
400 East Second Street
Bloomsburg, PA 17815
Dear Dr. Soltz:
As four students of Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, we would like to propose that two
computer and two printers be added to the second floor of each dorm as well as in Monty’s.
There will be no construction need, only the rearrangement of the second floor lounges in the
dorms and a section cleared out to put two computers and two printers in Monty’s.
Additionally, we represent every student who lives in the dorms at Bloomsburg University who
are in need of the addition of these computers and printers. These computers and printers would
only be used by students who live on campus and would make it more convenient to do school
work and further themselves academically. These computers are needed because of the students
who need to do work and print things out during the times when the library is closed. Without
this, we believe that the current inconvenience will stay the same or get worse. We strongly
believe that the addition of these computers and printers would not only benefit students who
live on campus, but all students here at Bloomsburg University.
In order to show you how this could be done effectively, both financially and within reasonable
amount of time, we have developed this proposal with a budgeting plan, pointed out the costs
and benefits, as well as listed materials needed in order to carry out this plan.
3
What is the Problem?
Currently there are no computers or printers in any of the on-campus student housing buildings
for students, as well as Monty’s on upper-campus. This can be a problem for students without
laptops or even students needing to print items on weekends, whenever the library is either out
of the way or closed. Having computers and printers in the student housing buildings would
provide a much more convenient option for students needing to use a computer, a printer, or
both.
How to fix the Problem:
We propose that two computers and two colored printers be placed in each student lounge on the
second floor of each student housing building on-campus. Currently the lounges are utilized as a
place for students to just relax, socialize, and work on school work. The student lounges would
not need to be structurally changed at all; rather the set-up of the lounge will be rearranged so
that there are two tables. One table holding the two computers and the other table holding the
colored printers. Aside from that, the rest of the lounge will remain the same. The computers
will be the HP EliteDisplay E201 model, and the colored printers will be the Kyocera FS-
5250DN model. Each computer desk will be a Balt LX-72 split level workstation with a door.
These desks are set-up to hold two computers each. A standard 5-foot table will be used in each
lounge to hold both colored printers. The colored printers in each lounge will be able to be
accessed via wireless internet by all students to allow for students with laptops to print items off.
Also, each lounge will use Student IDs to unlock doors for security measures, as well as the use
of computer locks to prevent theft. Each computer will include the latest versions of the same
software that is provided on all of the on-campus computers so students are able to continue
their school work at home.
Why Do We Want This Change?
As busy college students enrolled here at Bloomsburg University, we have many assignments to
do and deadlines that must be met on time. The success we have here at Bloomsburg University
will determine the success we have in the future. It is our duty to make this proposal a reality, as
having computers and colored printers in each student housing building will provide a way to be
a more successful student, as well as provide a more convenient option for students rather than
going to the library.
4
What are the Benefits?
Adding two dcomputers to every dorm hall on campus and Monty’s will not be too expensive.
Doing this will bring many benefits to the University. Our dorm halls will also look more
modern, and many students that come to visit will surely be intrigued by that which will attract
more prospective students.
Adding computers and a printer to a lounge in every hall will benefit students tremendously.
The lounges in every building are very similar, and no construction is needed. Many students
complain about having to leave their building just to go print things out. Students living in
upper campus have to go down all the way to lower campus just to print some things out or use
a school computer. Many classes require programs that are only available on the school
computers, so even if a student owns a laptop, they still have to use the school computers for
certain classes. One of Bloomsburg University’s mission statement is to “Enhancing academic
excellence”, adding these computers and printers will surely enhance academic excellence.

Conclusion:
With the addition of two computers and two colored printers to each second floor lounge of the
student housing buildings, as well as in Monty’s, students will be given a more convenient
option to work on schoolwork and print items off for classes. The problem of having to use a
computer or having to print some thing off and not having access to either will be resolved.
Students will be more likely to improve academically, as they will have access to computers and
colored printers 24/7 which will allow for any deadline to be met, no excuse. Students will no
longer have to come all the way to the library from their dorms to work on schoolwork. Overall,
we believe the addition of two computers and two colored printers to each second floor student
housing lounge, as well as in Monty’s will not only provide a more convenient option for
students, but also gives students of Bloomsburg University a better chance to succeed.
Sincerely,
Graham Herrick Volan Nnanpalle Hamlet Ventura Tim Kerr
