1. How to Create a Research Dossier to Gather and
Analyze Data for this Project Using Evernote
1
ENGL 207: Persuasive Writing
2. What is Evernote?
• Evernote is a digital notebook and workspace.
• You may use it for this project by creating a
notebook to hold excerpts from sources and your
analysis notes. You are not required to use
Evernote; you may collect and submit your
research data in a Word document.
• If you have never used Evernote before, it's easy
to learn.

10. You will need to:
• Create a notebook, and title it Research Dossier by
[your first and last name].
• Gather data from the ProCon.org website using the
clipping tool into notes in your notebook.
• See the requirements and guidelines for more
information on what to gather and how to make
analysis comments. Th next few slides are examples of
what your dossier might look like.

11. 11
In this example, the writer has decided to organize the notebook by creating separate
notes for each of the required number of arguments. The example is just showing a note
with the clipped information to be used in a summary of the issue and two of the
arguments on opposing sides. The writer would, of course, need more notes.
12. 12
Evernote allows you to view your notes in several ways and also sort them in different
ways. These notes are sorted in the order in which they were created.
13. 13
Here is what the
note for the Pro
Con Argument
looks like.
Notice the citation
has been cut and
pasted. And there
are two excerpts.
And the claims
and proofs
identified with
some analysis
notes.
The argument is so short
that the writer clipped all
of it, but you should only
do this if the argument is
very short like this one.
14. 14
In the Con argument
note, the writer has
clipped short excerpts
from the original and
made analysis
comments.
