Introductory Message
This Self-Learning Module (SLM) is prepared so that you, our dear
learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home.
Activities, questions, directions, exercises, and discussions are
carefully stated for you to understand each lesson.
Each SLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide
you step-by-step as you discover and understand the lesson
prepared for you.
Pre-tests are provided to measure your prior knowledge on lessons
in each SLM. This will tell you if you need to proceed on
completing this module or if you need to ask your facilitator or
your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson.
At the end of each module, you need to answer the post-test to
self-check your learning. Answer keys are provided for each
activity and test. We trust that you will be honest in using these.
In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher
are also provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and
reminders on how they can best help you on your home-based
learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks
on any part of this SLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in
answering the exercises and tests. And read the instructions
carefully before performing each task.
If you have any questions in using this SLM or any difficulty in
answering the tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your
teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.
5. 1
In this module you would recognize point, line, line segment
and a ray. You can also draw all of this. Don’t you know that you
are already familiar with this? Do you remember star gazing at
night? We often connect stars and form different objects from it. In
this lesson we will realize how points, lines, line segment and ray
differ and how it works in our day to day endeavour.
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. define a point, line, line segment and ray
2. recognize and draw a point, line, line segment and ray
(M3GE-IIIe-11 ).
Enjoy your journey. Good luck!
What I Need to Know
6. 2
What I Know
Give what is being asked in the following items.
1. What is a point? ________________________________________
a. a part of a line with only one end point
b. a collection of points along a straight path
c. a dot in exact location in space
d. a part of a line with two endpoints
2. Draw a point:
3. What is a line? _________________________________________
a. a part of a line with only one end point
b. a collection of points along a straight path
c. a part of a line with two endpoints
d. a dot in exact location in space
4. Draw a line: _______________
5. What is a line segment? _______________________________
a. a part of a line with only one end point
b. a collection of points along a straight path
c. a dot in exact location in space
d. a part of a line with two endpoints

Lesson
Recognizing and Drawing a
Point, Line, Line Segment
and Ray
The children like you are fond of reading different stories and
poems that could give life lessons. Can you connect dots from
above? The stars at night, looks like dots of light at night. What is
another name for dots?
9. 5
What’s In
Identify the following pairs of lines. Name each of the following
pairs as intersecting line, perpendicular line, and parallel line in the
space provided.
1. ___________________
2. ___________________
3. _____________________
4. _____________________

10. 6
What’s New
Do you remember a game connect-the dots? Each small dot
you make is called a point, whether we use a pen, pencil, pentel
pen or even a crayon still called a point. Now, can you draw 2
points in the box and called it point A and point B?
a.
b. Can you draw two points, get a ruler and connect two points to
make a line? And, call it line segment CD.
c. Can you draw two points and connect it with a line with arrows
at both ends? And call it a line EF.
d. Draw a line where the other side is an arrow while the other end
is point. And call it line GH.
11. 7
What is It
Activity 1
In activity 1, I asked you to draw point, line, line segment
and a ray. Now, let’s check if you did it right. With its correct
definition and it’s sample illustration.
What is a Point?
Is an exact position on a plane surface. Each dot you make
with a sharp pencil is called a point. Usually, we use a dot or as a
cross mark to the position of a point.
Sample,
. A X B
We call these points as Point A and Point B
What is a line?
Is a set of points in a straight path that extends in opposite
directions without ending.
Sample,
. .
C D
We, call this line CD.
What is line segment?
A line segment is a part of a line between two end points.
. .
E F
12. 8
We call it line segment EF.
What is a ray?
A ray is a part of a line that has one end point and an arrow
that extends in one direction without ending.
.
G H
We have now, ray GH.
What’s More
Activity 2
Now let’s practice what we have discussed.
1. a. In the box below, mark 2 points with a dot each. Name
the points H and I.
1. a. Draw a line segment KL in the box below.
b. Draw lines MN in the box below.
13. 9
2. Points A, C and E are shown below. Draw a line to show ray
AB, ray CD and ray EF.
What I Have Learned
Points can be marked with a dot or a cross.
Ex. . x
Lines have no end. Straight line is drawn with a ruler. We show line
by making arrows in both ends.
Ex.
Line Segment joints 2 points. The length of line segment is the
length from 1 point to the other.
Ex. .
Ray goes in one direction. It starts with a point and ends with an
arrow.
Ex. .
A . E.
C .
