Easter Sunday - Mark 16

1. A Prayer for the People of God
Creator of the universe, you made
the world in beauty, and restore all things
in glory through the victory of King Jesus.
We pray that, wherever your image is still
disfigured by poverty, sickness, selfishness,
war and greed, the new creation in
Christ the King may appear in justice,
love, and peace, to the glory of your name.
Amen.

15. When the Sabbath was over, Mary
Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and
Salome bought spices so that they might go
to anoint Jesus’ body. Very early on the first
day of the week,
just after sunrise, they were on their way
to the tomb and they asked each other,
“Who will roll the stone away from the
entrance of the tomb?” But when they
Looked up, they saw that the stone,
which was very large, had been rolled away.

16. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young
man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right
side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be
alarmed,”
he said. “You are looking for Jesus the
Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He
is not here. See the place where they laid him.

his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of
you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as

23. at FIRST I think the resurrection made them go…
…because Jesus’ resurrection was CONFUSING!

25. on FRIDAY and SATURDAY they had been like…
…because Jesus’ death was GUTWRENCHING.

26. But for JESUS, those days had been like…
…because his descent was LIBERATING!

27. ANASTASIS: Recovery from a debilitating condition;
Especially irradiation of human tissue; rebirth

28. now, EVENTUALLY the disciples were like…
…because his ascension would be EMPOWERING!

…what do you think THAT will be like?!

32. when Jesus comes BACK, I think we’ll be like…
…because his return will be MIND-BLOWING!

33. but MAYBE we’ll be more like…
…because his return will be VINDICATING!

34. but SURELY we’ll be like…
…because his return will be EXHILERATING!

35. On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make
for
all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-
wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-
aged wines strained clear. And he will destroy
on this mountain the shroud that is cast over
all peoples,
the sheet that is spread over all nations;
he will swallow up death forever.
Then the Lord God will wipe away the tears
from all faces, and the disgrace of his people

Death will be no more; mourning and crying

“See, I am making all things new.”

…He is RISEN! He is risen INDEED!

40. Prayer
Living God, long ago, faithful women
proclaimed the good news
of Jesus' resurrection,
and the world was changed forever.
Teach us to keep faith with them,
that our witness may be as bold,
our love as deep,
and our faith as true.
Amen.
