Vic Mankotia currently serves as the vice
president of security for Asia, Pacific, and Japan
for CA Technologies. In this role, Vic Mankotia is
in charge of devising global security solutions,
including cloud data storage.
Recently, online data storage company Data &
Storage Asean asked his opinions on the current
level of cloud security. According to Mr.
Mankotia, giving the right users access to
specific data types is crucial to maintaining a
level of security, and many cloud solutions do
not have restriction borders unless specified.

Larger entities like Google and Amazon have
built-in protection, but many cloud storage
companies fail to ensure that stored data is
protected. For this reason, Mr. Mankotia
recommends that buyers check industry
certifications such as SSAE 16, US/EU Safe
Harbor, ISO 27001, and FISMA, in order to
determine the level of security that SaaS
providers offer. He also recommends that buyers
examine anti-hacking features associated with
the software. Although a wealth of anti-hacking
tools are available, the level of protection and the
way that they are implemented varies from
provider to provider.
