This document provides a summary of two case studies - Jimmy Fallon's talk show and the women's marathon final at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
For the Jimmy Fallon talk show, 4 cameras were used to capture interactions between Fallon and his guest (Nicole Kidman). Camera shots included medium close-ups of the guest and host. The set was designed to look professional but cozy. Rapid cutting between shots of the host and guest emphasized the conversation.
For the women's marathon, 10 ground cameras and 4 drones were used to capture the race from various angles. Commentators provided context to shots of leading participants. Cameras followed participants to make viewers feel present. Health and safety precautions were needed given

The reasonwhy she isshownindividuallyisbecause she iscelebrity
guestand herreactionisveryimportantthat’swhyher reactionis
shownbyitself toemphasise herimportanceinthe chat show. The
thirdcamera showsJimmyFellonwhoisthe hostof the show ina
mediumclose up,thiscamerashottakesJimmyFellon’sreaction
and alsocuts to thisshotwhenhe is the mostlyspeaking. The

It isthe interviewtype of action,the way communicationwas
potrayedwaslike aconversation,the cameracutsbetweenthe hostandthe guestat most of the
timeswhichgivesthe meaningof the conversationbetweenthemtothe audience ,the maincamera
showsthemtogetherwhichshowsthattheyare talkingtoeach other, theyshow the eye contact
and alsothe bodylanguage whichshowsthe viewer the interactionbetweenthem. Itisan
entertainingsegmentwhere boththe hostandthe guestmake jokesandlaughwhichmakesthe

staff , and the helthandsafetyissuesmayoccurtherefore there are rulesonthe setto make sure
that there are no wiresthatmeycause a hazard,people thatare in the studioare usuallychecked
before the entrance tothe broadcastingstationtherefore unacceptable behaviourthatmayoccur is
limitedincomparisontolive eventssuchasolympics.
In JimmyFallonshowwe cansee thatthere islimitedspace inthe studiobutthe wayin whichitwas
shotand produced, showsnoobvioussignsof the limitedenvironmentspace withingthe studio.
But alsoshowsthat the budgetisbig.There are mainfocal points,the deskandthe sofaswhere
hostand the guest/shave the talk, front standup stage where JimmyFallonopensthe show ,and
where the guestenterfrom,itisalsowhere the popup gamesare played,and where the actorsand
guestsperform.There isaudience space wherethe live audiencesreactionisshot,a little setupfor

The Rio Olympicsprogramme forwomansmarathonwas
coveredlive. Eventsassuchare coveredbydozensof
directorstokeepa track of the broadcasting. Around10
groundcameras and4 dronescoveredthe event.Thedrones
were usedtocover the eye birdview,establishingthe
locationandthe scale of the event.Wide shothave been
usedto showthe numberof participantsinthe marathon.
Andthe surroundingcameras keepthe same shotbefore
participantsstretchout. It continueswithleading
participantsshowninmidshotand wide shot. Andthen
varietyof similaranglesandshotsare used.Cuttingfrom
dronesto groundcamerasthat are manuallyheldbythe
cameramanwhile onthe motorcycle orvehicle.
The communicationmeaningtothe viewerispassed
throughvarietyof anglesthatare synchronisedwith
commentatorswhomonitorlive andgive the overviewof
the action.Whenit isa midshotto the leadingpaticipants
theytalkabout eachindividualbreathlycoveringtheyr
winsandlosesinthe past, theyexpresshow persons

Adidas,Evian Waterand etc. Alsothe iconiclogoof OlympicGamesare usedto establishthe event

live outdoorsevent. Participantsuniformshave somethingthatrepresenttheircountry,itisthe
name on the top and the coloursthat have beenusedforthe uniformrepresenttheircoutriesflag.
The marathon route isdone throughthe city. Andthere isa lot of room forthe cameramovement.
Camerascan be seeninnearlyeveryshotandthisisbecause there istoolitle time tochange the
positionanddronedcapture movingvihackeswith cameraswhichisverycommorforeventslike
Olympics. There isalotof people;participants,audience andstaff memberstherefore thereisalot
of healthandsafetyissues.Suchasparticipantfeelingunwell,unacceotable behaviourfromthe
