2. · SHORT RESUME OF ANNA FRANK
Anne Frank is a Jewish girl who has to go into hiding during World War II trying to escape from the
Nazis. Together with seven others they hide in the secret annex at Prinsengracht 263 in Amsterdam. After
more than two years in hiding they are discovered and deported to concentration camps. Anne’s father,
Otto Frank, is the only one of the eight people who survived. After her death Anne becomes world famous
because of the diary she wrote while in hiding.
3. · Why did the writer write this book?
Anna Frank started keeping her diary because she wanted to share her thoughts and secrets
with someone she could trust. She actually says: «Paper is more patient than humans » and «I
hope that I can trust you and tell you all the things about me».
4. Short presentation of the plot
Through her diary, Anna Frank describes the
various situations she faces (for example, her
squabbles with her mother, the starvation and
its outcome). She also expresses various
questions and asks herself, but also all the
people (Why is war to be done, why are they
persecuting us?) In general, Anna is
complaining about her parent’s biased attitude,
as she believes, towards her sister and her
thoughts and judgments for them.

5. · Basic idea
of the diary
Τhe basic idea of the diary is the
psychology of the teenagers and the
relationship with their family. The idea is
based on the difference between me-the
others, which appears with the development
of the individuality of the adolescent and the
search for his personal independence.
6. · Language / style of the work-observations in the
use of speech, idioms, dialogues e.t.c
The things that Anna Frank writes in her diary, are
addressed to her imaginary friend, Kitty, in the form of
correspondence. The language she uses is simple and the
expressive means she uses are mostly adjectives. The
way she writes reveals a mental upheaval because she
feels offended by her parents. She speaks about them with
anger, but she is more objective in her observations of
herself. When she talks about her parents and especially
her mother, her tone becomes critical ("For me, my
mother is not always "my mother") and in some points,
when she is referring to her sister ("Margott is
undoubtedly the smartest, the most polite, the prettiest
and the best!").
7. Emotions-thoughts that are caused to the reader by his contact with the work
When I finished Anne Frank's diary, I was touched and I had a really important
question: "How could this girl write such a masterpiece?" I was very impressed with the
maturity that she had. However, what impressed me even more was the courage that
Anna showed along, with her endurance in both concentration camps where she was sent
(in Bergen-Belsen and Auschwitz).
