Non Hodgkin Lymphoma Case Study
Incidence of Non–Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) has been increasing for the past few decades. It has
reached a plateau in the last 20 years. DLBCL accounts for 40% of total NHL. CD 20 negative
plasmablastic variant of DLBCL has been described as a rapidly progressive tumor, almost
exclusively involving jaw and oral mucosa [1]. It has been described in literature that plasmablastic
lymphoma shows an excessive predilection to male gender, HIV infection [1] and other
immunodeficiency conditions. Note that our patient is a female and does not have HIV.
As the disease progresses, Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphomas involves extra–nodal sites, most often
gastrointestinal and skin. Although ovarian disease is seen often as a part of systemic disease, < 1%

The Challenges For Students Today
Writing a research paper is one of the toughest challenges for students today. An obstacle to success
is locating and navigating different databases and making sure that research sources are credible and
scholarly. We are lucky, in that CSU Global Library has given its students access to several different
databases, therefore, making it easier to navigate vast amounts of information. I found two different
databases that will be helpful with my two areas of interest, healthcare management and clinical
research. The first database is EBSCO. It is a database with a broad range of topics. It includes
information on health care, corporations, business, government and includes links to public libraries
as well as links to information that will be helpful for K–12 students. The second database is
PubMed. Where EBSCO was a database filled with information on a broad range of topics, PubMed
is streamlined and contains information on biomedical sciences. PubMed contains over 26 million
citations from biomedical literature, MEDLINE, books and scientific journals. EBSCO Search
Engine When starting at the CSU Global Library's main page, EBSCO's first search results cannot
be reduced. It is a simple word or topic search, but once a general topic is entered a better defined
search can begin. The database allows you to use multiple topic expanders and limiters, therefore,
narrowing down the information you are searching. Students can search for full text articles or

Medical Website Analysis
We, as 21st century individuals, live in a world where information is at our fingertips. This is one of
the many reasons why the internet has quickly become known as a place where individuals can get
any questions answered within seconds. Many patients are even turning to the internet to get their
health questions answers! Unfortunately, not all medical websites are created equally. This paper
will compare and contrast the credibility, accuracy and usability of three medical websites: PubMed,
WebMD and Patient.
Reasoning behind selecting PubMed, WebMD and Patient I selected the medical websites PubMed,
WebMD and Patient each for their own specific reasons. PubMed intrigued me because it is a
government run health website. I selected this website because I thought it may be interesting to
compare a government website with a non–profit and a for–profit website. My second website,
WebMD, was selected due to its vast popularity with patients. The final website selection, Patient,
was a website that I had never heard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When researching medical information, it is important to understand and acknowledge the purpose
of medical website that is being used. PubMed is medical website created and now run by the
government. It is devoted to health and biomedicine information, containing over "26 million
citations from MEDLINE biomedical literature, life science journals, and online books" (Bethesda,
2016).
WebMD is a for–profit website that focuses on providing medical and health information to the
general public. The website provides health news, information on all types of health conditions and
drugs, suggestions for healthy living and supportive health communities. They focus on helping the
public understand their health needs. WebMD prides themselves in creating an appropriate

Hypothyroidism Research Paper
Hypothyroidism
(underactive thyroid)
What is Hypothyroidism?
It is a condition in which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone.
What is the Thyroid Hormones?
The thyroid hormones, often referred to as the major metabolic hormones, affect virtually every cell
in the body. Synthesis and secretion of the thyroid hormones depend on the presence of iodine and
tyrosine as well as maturation of the hypothalamic–pituitary–thyroid system (Kirsten, 2000). Can
you acquire this Thyroid Disease???
Everything You Need to Know About Hypothyroidism
The symptoms of Hypothyroidism: Swollen neck, brittle nails, coarse hair, hair loss, weight gain,
intolerance to cold/heat, irregular menstrual, fatigue, depression, skin disorders, puffy face,
constipation and numbness of limbs. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you should

It can also be treated with surgery if needed to be removed, with radiation if it evolves into cancer,
medications, different types of diets and radioactive iodine treatments. If the thyroid is overactive
and in that case, would be Hyperthyroidism, a condition in which there is an overproduction of the
hormone in the thyroid. Hyperthyroidism is a pathological syndrome in which tissue is exposed to
excessive amounts of circulating thyroid hormone. The most common cause of this syndrome is
Graves' disease, followed by toxic multinodular goiter, and solitary hyper functioning nodules.
Autoimmune postpartum and subacute thyroiditis, tumors that secrete thyrotropin, and drug–induced
thyroid dysfunction, are also important causes (Sharma, Aronow, Patel, Gandhi, Desai, 2011). Other
than your sex or age, your risk for hypothyroidism is higher if you have a family history of the
disease or any autoimmune

The Role Of Nature And Nurture : Adolescence Eating Disorders
THE ROLE OF NATURE AND NURTURE IN ADOLESCENCE EATING DISORDERS

Introduction Eating disorders are complex of medical and psychiatric disorders, it can affect
individuals of any age, sex, race, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic level. The majority of the
Eating disorders discovered during adolescence, but clinicians and psychologists have found an
increasing number of young children, old adults diagnosed with these illness. It is not clear what
exactly causing these disorders , but ongoing researches find that a number of biological ,
psychological and sociocultural factors might trigger eating disorders.

58% to 76% ( Klump et al,2001),while the variance in susceptibility to Bulimia nervosa BN is 54 to

researchers found that there is an increase in genetic effect across age which linked to body
satisfaction and from which the clinicians assumed that these findings could have an activation of
certain genes during puberty
(Klump et al,2000).In a follow–up study ,11 year old individuals were grouped into two groups , one
before puberty and one after in order to detect the direct effect of the puberty on behavior and
attitude ,the researchers have found that the genetic effect equal to zero of variance in the group
before puberty while it increases to 35% in the other group of after puberty and that gives another
proof of the genes effect on the certain disorders like Eating disorders (Klump et al,2000). The
molecular genetic studies suggested the association between individual`s traits ,behavior

There were few significant differences in knee extensor and knee flexor muscle activity during
walking with robotic assistance. Significant differences in muscle activity across condition only
occurred in muscles targeted for intervention (knee extensor, VL), with an increase in muscle
activity during the EXO condition, a positive result for an extensor muscle. Although some
undesirable increases in MH flexor muscle activity were seen in the linear envelopes, they did not
present significant changes the statistical analysis on the group level. Muscle activity did not change

The Link Between Food Promotion And Eating Behavior
Over the past year political momentum has grown for strong action to tackle childhood obesity and
there is an emerging consensus that regulation of food advertising to children is both necessary and
achievable. A key factor in this debate has been the publication of the Food Standards Agency 's
(FSA) review of research into the link between food promotion and eating behaviour in children,
undertaken by Professor Gerard Hastings and colleagues at the University of Strathclyde.2 Though
the findings are heavily qualified, the authors conclude that advertising to children does have an
adverse effect on food preferences, purchasing behaviour and consumption. Comment in the media
was less ambivalent: the report was taken as clear evidence that the large food corporations are out
of control and that tough action is required to curb their excesses. The Lancet concurred, with an
editorial attacking sports celebrities and food manufacturers for their cynical promotion of junk food
and demanding legislation to force the junk–food industry to 'clean up its act '.3 Some of the big
brand companies, including Coca–Cola and Heinz, responded with a declaration that they would
stop advertising their products to children; and the Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell asked the new
television regulator, Ofcom, to review its advertising code for children. Since the Hastings Review
may be used as the justification for policy change or even legislation, its methodology and findings
deserve close

Discussion Of A Systematic English Language Literature...
Discussion
A systematic English–language literature review using PubMed was conducted. Searches included
"etonogestrel implant and pregnancy," "etonogestrel implant failure," "Implanon and pregnancy,"
and "Nexplanon and pregnancy." The literature revealed that pregnancy with concomitant use of
Implanon and Nexplanon is extremely rare. A total of 4103 women–years, comprising over 53,000
treatment cycles, were included in the initial clinical trials during Implanon development. There
were no reported pregnancies during these trials leading to the resulting Pearl Index of 0.0 (95% CI,
0.0–0.9) (4).
In 2004, a postmarketing case series in Australia looking at unintended pregnancies with Implanon
was published. This study compiled over 200 unintended pregnancies while Implanon was in use
that were reported to the Australian Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee during the first
three years of marketing in that country. After excluding 91 women for reasons including
insufficient data and pregnancy prior to Implanon insertion, a total of 127 cases of Implanon failure
resulting in pregnancy was observed. The authors of this study found that the most common reason
for unintended pregnancy was failure to insert the implant (84 cases). Following this were incorrect
timing of insertion (19 cases), product failure (13 cases), interaction with hepatic enzyme–inducing
medications (8 cases), and expulsion of Implanon (3 cases). The failure rate for postmarketing use

Low Choolesterol Diets: Database Analysis
Database Search I decide to do a search for an article on low cholesterol diets because my doctor
told me that my cholesterol is high.To lower the cholesterol, you need to follow a special
combination of medicine, food, and exercise to treat high cholesterol. I chose CINAHL initially, but
I was only able to find one article, and it was more of female patients with fertility problems. So, I
used PubMed, looked for "low cholesterol diet" and I found 14,942 articles. I chose to add filters for
"free full text" and "publications within five years." This brought my results down to 1,589 articles.
When I typed "low cholesterol diet" into Google Scholar, I got back over 1.6 million results. I used
the date filter only to receive articles from 2010–2016, which netted me around 87,000 articles. I
further reduced my results by adding the word "vegetarian" to "low cholesterol diet" and got 13,600
articles. I chose the very first article from PubMed, "Mediterranean versus vegetarian diet for
cardiovascular disease prevention (the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

forcing me to pay for items that I wanted to read. Also, there were just too many results using

the search or change my search principles altogether. The database can simplify scholarly work
because the articles that show up in your search are reliable reports verify by experts, helping nurses

Selection Criteria And Search Process And Research
Selection Criteria and Search Process There have been studies done using probiotics for various
treatments, and amongst various age groups. Therefore, to stick to my PICO question, the inclusion
criteria for the search were adults (ages 18–70), AAD as an outcome, systematic reviews (SR),
meta–analysis (MA), randomized controlled trials (RCT's), studies conducted within the past 10
years, and of English language. Exclusion criteria were studies that exclusively treated the elderly,
pediatrics, or children. Studies conducted to treat a specific diagnosis were also excluded. My PICO
is an intervention question, so the best hierarchy levels of evidence to do research analysis on would
be level I to III (Melynk & Fineout–Overholt, 2015). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I changed the search words to Lactobacillus, diarrhea, and antibiotics and applied the same limiters,
but it did not generate any further significant articles. Google Scholar was the final database
searched. There are only a few search filters that can be applied in this database (Polit & Beck,
2017). The search words that were used were probiotics, diarrhea, and antibiotics adults. The
Boolean "AND" was in the search bar, and the limiter of 2013–present. This search generated 9,900
articles. A disadvantage of Google Scholar is the inability to apply search filters and the reference
list is according to the number of times the article is referenced (Polit & Beck, 2017). I manually
scrolled through the articles and I found one additional RCT that fit my search criteria for best
evidence. Selection of Best Evidence The selection criteria I utilized was based on sticking to the
key PICO words. Studies that involved both kids and adults I avoided, as my population being
studied was strictly adults. Of the final 11 articles in PubMed, I utilized three RCT's, and one
systematic review/meta–analyses. Two of those eleven were studying babies/children in conjunction
with adults, so I excluded them. Another study focused only on the prevention of CDI, and there was
no mention of AAD, so that was eliminated in order to stick to my dependent variable of AAD.
Three of the eleven were solely

Diabetes: Types, Causes, and Effects
Diabetes is a chronic illness that affects the lives of millions of individuals all around the world.
This disease affects both children and adults, totaling 25.8 million of individuals who are officially
diagnosed, or on the verge of a diagnosis (ADA 2012). It causes the death of tens of thousands of
people annually, and can lead to greater complications such as heart disease and stroke. Diabetes is
initially caused by the imbalance of glucose in the body. Glucose is a sugar that the body's cells need
in order to survive (PubMed 2012). It provides it with the energy necessary to allow the body to
function on a day to day basis. Different factors lead to the uncontrollable nature of glucose that
defines diabetes. In Type I Diabetes, the body does not have the ability to produce insulin. Insulin is
a hormone secreted from an organ called the pancreas which acts as a receptor on individual cells.
This receptor allows for the glucose to enter the cells and provide it with the energy necessary to
survive. When there is not enough insulin, then glucose does not enter the cells, and instead stays in
the bloodstream. Artificial insulin shots need to be administered to individuals with Type I Diabetes
in order to allow the glucose in their system to enter their cells where they need it (PubMed 2012).
Another type of Diabetes is Type 2 Diabetes; this is the most common type of Diabetes. Unlike Type
1, Type 2 Diabetes is caused by the body's inability to respond to insulin. The

Operative Morbidity And Mortality On Patients With Diabetes
Peri–operative morbidity and mortality is higher in patients with diabetes (1, 2), and they have a
longer hospital stay than non–diabetic patients. There is a lot of evidence to show that poor
glycaemic control before, during and after surgery increases the risk of adverse outcomes,
irrespective of whether the patient is a diabetic or not. (3) Peri–operative hyperglycaemia in surgical
patients is associated with increased complications following surgery, especially wound infections.
(4) Prevention of hyperglycaemia reduces the risk of complications of cardiac surgery (5, 6) and
also reduces morbidity and mortality in intensive care patients.(7) There is sufficient ground to
assume that this holds true beyond the cardiac surgical and cardiac ICU patients, and is applicable to
all patients with diabetes undergoing surgery.(8)
There is an increasing body of evidence to show that apart from control of acute blood sugar
fluctuations in the peri–operative period, long– term control of blood sugar levels also plays an
important role in reducing diabetic complications after surgery.
HbA1c (glycosylated haemoglobin) is an important marker of long– term glycaemic control.
Glycosylation of haemoglobin is a non–enzymatic irreversible reaction between haemoglobin beta
chains and glucose molecules, the extent of glycosylation being dependant on the average blood
sugar levels over the preceding three months. There are many methods of quantifying the amount of
HbA1c in blood, including ion

a someone becomes delusional or hallucinating. Delusional means to come up with random ideas or
falsehoods and is acting upon them while hallucinations are when a person senses things that do not

Development Of Resistance For Patients With Hiv / Aids...
Rupinder Sekhon Development of Resistance to Antifungal agents in candidiasis
Introduction
Candidiasis is a concern for patients with HIV/AIDS globally. The Literature data point out that this
opportunistic pathogen is the leading cause of superficial and disseminated fungal infections in
humans. 96% mycoses infection are caused by the Candida species1,2,3. In a healthy person, the
Candida colonies that exist are mainly on mucosal surfaces of the oral cavity, gastrointestinal and
urogenital tracts without showing any disease symptoms are most frequently identified as Candida
species such as Candida Albicans (70%) and Candida Glabrata (7%)3,4,5,6,7. In
immunocompromised humans, Candida frequently causes infections ranging from superficial
mucosal lesions to disseminated or infection within the bloodstream6. Candida Albicans is the most
common cause of hematogenously disseminated and fungemia. Candida albicans cause superficial
infections that includes oral and vaginal thrush as well as chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis8.
Being an important causative agent, it makes the condition difficult to treat and morbidity,
superficial candidiasis of the skin, mucosa and nails have become a significant problem worldwide9.
Although superficial candidiasis rarely presents a risk to the life of patients, it significantly lowers
the quality of life9,10. Significantly high frequency of the occurrence of candidiasis, along with
careful treatment.

Pubmed Reflective Essay
The first word that comes to mind when I think of searching for answers to a PICO question related
to the physical therapy that I use in my clinic is "frustration". This week we were to use PubMed to
search for research that pertained to two of our PICO questions. We explored PubMed in the
foundations class last semester. The only previous use of PubMed may have been through articles
found in Google Scholar. Finding keywords was not difficult and my schedule allowed enough time
for the search. Filters beyond "full text" "human" and "review" led to zero articles found. One to

evaluating the PubMed research it appeared more common to pair exercise with fibromyalgia or
ankylosing spondylitis than manual or craniosacral therapy.
The frustration came in finding articles that fit the keywords craniosacral and manual therapy. I
noticed that if a study wanted to prove the efficacy of using one drug, one piece of equipment over
another, or if the intervention was a tried and true modality for physical therapy, the studies were
published. It seemed that researchers are more likely to publish multiple ... Show more content on

Non-Verbal Communication and Attractiveness in the Courtroom
Running Head: BEYOND WORDS Non–verbal Communication Attractiveness Background
Ethological studies on non–linguistic communication suggested that the language of love is, indeed,
universal (Givens, 1978). This non–linguistic or non–verbal communication is used in courtship,
such as by facial expression, gesture, posture, distance, para–language, and gaze. Persons use these
when symbolizing a desire for sexual relationship. This non–verbal form is considered more
powerful the verbal form in expressing like, dislike, superiority, timidity, fear and other feelings or
emotions (Bateson, 1966, 1968 as qtd in Givens). In fact, human courtship relies a great deal on
these non–verbal signals, such as submissiveness and affiliation. A submissive–affiliative pose or
gesture creates a peaceable or non–threatening image, which is aimed at attracting the sought–after
mate. These studies investigated several familiar non–verbal cues used during flirtation, courtship,
and seduction (Givens). Non–Verbal Communication and Attractiveness in the Courtroom Other
studies found the connection and significance of this type of communication in five key areas in the
court room (Remland, 1993). These key areas are the voire dire or a preliminary examination of
prospective jurors by the judge; and jury analysis; opening and closing statements; client behavior
and direct examination; cross examination, ad judge demeanor and communication. At the very
start, legal practitioners should

The Impact of Chemical DDT on Human Health.
Introduction:
As of 2013, there were 97 countries with sustained malaria transmission, and 7 countries in
prevention of the reintroduction phase, making a total of 104 countries where malaria is presently
considered endemic 1,3,10,15,24. It is estimated that 3.4 billion people are at risk of malaria and
WHO estimates that 207 million cases of malaria occurred globally with 627,000 deaths in
20121,3,10,15,24. 80% of cases occurred in Africa and most deaths (77%) occurred in children
under the age of 5 3,7,10,15,23,24. The burden faced in Sub–Saharan Africa continues to be a
challenge for national governments. Increasing resistance to drugs and pesticides, the lack of
capacity to implement programs effectively and low public education about malaria are only a few
of the many complications that African governments must address to effectively combat malaria
1,3,7,10,15,18,20,23. In order to reduce malaria incidence, some African countries are moving back
towards dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), an insecticide once widely used throughout the
world for agricultural and public health purposes1, 3,10,15,16,23.
Dr. Paul Müller discovered chemical DDT effectiveness on insects just prior to World War II. His
work received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1948 1,9. During World War II the
Allied forces used DDT to combat typhus and malaria vectors 15. After the war they used the
chemical to control the vector and agricultural pests, helping to successfully

Inorganic Chemicals Cause Water Pollution
Inorganic chemicals is one of most important causes to water pollutants. These inorganic pollutants
naturally found in environment but due to human develepment activities, these pollutant amount has
been increasing rapidly and released into water bodies. The most common inorganic pollutants from
water are ammonium, phosphorus, arsenic, cadmiun, zinc, lead etc. It is highly toxic to human and
environment (Choi et al., 2011). The inorganic pollutant such as ammonia and phosphorus promote
eutrophication, which excessive amounts of these inorganic pollutant releasing into the water can
accelerate this phenomena in a few years (Donald M et al., 2002). The overgrowth of plants and
subsequent death have been created green layer on the surface of water bodies. These layer can be
blocked the penetration of light and oxidation process into the water bodies. Thus, depletion of
dissolved oxygen can be occurred in the water and affected aquatic life. The death and decay of
aquatic life contribute unpleasant smells and increasing the turbidity of water bodies (Conley et al.,
2009). In additional, the heavy metal such as arsenic can causes skin, lung, bladder, and kidney
cancer as well as pigmentation changes, skin thickening (hyperkeratosis) neurological disorders,
muscular weakness, loss of appetite, and nausea (Mohan and Pittman, 2007). The long term
exposure to cadmium causes various types of acute and chronic disorders like pulmonary odema,

Promising Treatment for Alzheimer's Disease Essay
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder(1–3) causing progressive loss of cognitive
functions leading to dementia and death.(4) Older age is the highest risk factor for AD (3, 5) and the
prevalence of AD rises from 3% among those 65–74years to almost 50% among those >85year(2).
An estimated 5.2 million Americans of all ages had AD in 2013(1). It currently affects more than
33.9million people worldwide(4) and is predicted to be affecting more than 80million people
worldwide by 2040(3) which makes treating AD a pertinent issue to be dealt with at present.

Among them the HDACs linked to cognitive impairment in AD pathology are thought to be Class 1,
HDAC 2 associated with associative and spatial memory impairment.(8) Either activating HAT or
inhibiting HDAC can defend histone deacetylation but latter has proven more achievable than
former(15)
HDAC inhibitors are classified into 4 main chemical families. 1. Carboxylic acids– eg Sodium
butyrate, valporic acid, 4phenylbutyrate acts on Class 1 HDAC. 2. Hydroxamic acid– eg:
Trichosatin, SAHA acts on Class 1 and 2 HDCA. 3. Benzamide group– eg: MS275 acts on Class 1
HDAC and 4. Cyclic tetrapeptides– Tapoxin.(15) Researches have focused mainly on class 1 and
class 2 HDACi as treatment option for cognitive enhancement in AD.(21–23) The studies conducted
on mouse models with AD related neurodegeneration treated by sodium butyrate(24) (Class 1
HDACi) showed rescue of cognitive functions, by acting through HDAC2 inhibition. The same
models treated with SAHA, TSA (Class 2HDACi) and valporic acid (22, 23)(Class 1 HDACi)
showed contextual fear and memory loss abolished.(15, 25) Also studies have shown HDACis
successfully used as cognitive enhancers in invertebrates. (15)
Together these researches shows that targeting histone modifications and HDAC inhibitors can have
a promising therapeutic role as cognitive enhancer in AD(11, 12, 19, 26).HDAC inhibitors are also
currently researched as treatment option for many disease conditions(27–31). Epigenetics in AD can

dates back to 1400 B.C. in ancient Egypt (Broughton et al., 2006). With over two millennia worth of
advances in medical technology and the revolution of antibiotics, the ancient practice of wound
healing evolved to shape protocols used today. One of the most common, current practices for

Additional studies have joined the investigation of wound packing, focusing on the need for its use
during incision and drainage for specific abscesses. These studies also examine various differing
factors between packed vs. non–packed groups, such as healing times, abscess reformation,
infection rates, and pain. This data is currently evolving and just now reaching the national stage
(O'Malley, Dominici, et. al). The purpose of our research is to examine the efficacy of wound
packing through the review of multiple randomized double blind controlled trials and to clarify its
role in medical practice. This research hopes to also provide resources to educate patients, students,
and practitioners in regards to the role of packing in modern medical practice and potential
alternative treatment options. Although history is an excellent source for wisdom and knowledge,
one cannot become complacent and fail to constantly question current practices in order to ensure

Snow Leopard Research Paper
The organism I have is the snow leopard. As many of you know, the snow leopard is a mammal. The
snow leopard is apart of the Felidae family. There are many different types of cells found in
mammals. Four of the most commonly known cells are epithelial cells, fibroblasts, lymphocytes,
and macrophages. Lymphocytes are found in the blood. Epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and
macrophages are found in the tissue.
Fibroblasts, epithelial cells, lymphocytes, and macrophages are the most important and best known
cells in the snow leopards body (EDVOTEK and The Biotechnology Education Company).
Fibroblasts have a nucleus and secrete protein for the animal and they also fight off diseases and
heal wounds (EDVOTEK and The Biotechnology Education Company). Epithelial cells develop in
sheets that separate the animal from the environment, allowing it to survive. These cells are mainly
found in the digestive system, endocrine and reproductive system. A lymphocyte is a type of white
blood cell, which is part of the immune system (PubMed Health Glossary). There are two types B
and T cells (PubMed Health Glossary). B cells make antibodies that attack viruses, and bacteria
(PubMed Health Glossary). T cells destroy the animals own cells that have been taken over by a
virus so it can not become cancerous (PubMed Health a Glossary). The last main cells are
Macrophages. They secrete cytokines that activate the immune system (EDVOTEK and The

The Challenges For Students Today
Writing a research paper can be one of the toughest challenges for students today. A huge obstacle to
success is locating and navigating different databases and making sure that research sources are
credible and scholarly. We are lucky, in that CSU Global Library has given its students access to
several different databases, making it easier to navigate vast amounts of information. I found two
different databases that I feel will be helpful with my two areas of interest, healthcare management
and clinical research. The first database is EBSCO. It is a database with a broad range of topics. It
includes information on health care, corporations, business, government and military and includes
links to public libraries as well as links to information that will be helpful for K–12 students. The
second database is PubMed. Where EBSCO was a database filled with information on a broad range
of topics, PubMed is more streamlined and contains information on biomedical sciences. PubMed
comprised over 26 million citations from biomedical literature, MEDLINE, books and scientific
journals. EBSCO Search Engine When starting at the CSU Global Library's main page, EBSCO's
first search cannot be narrowed down. It is a simple word or topic search, but once a general topic is
entered a more defined search can begin. The database allows you to use multiple topic expanders
and limiters to narrow down the information you are looking for. You can search for full text articles

Melonoma is a well–known cancer that usually is related to sun exposure, but this one is not caused

At last, there are a few contemplations about expense. Interestingly, a few studies have
demonstrated that laser treatment, for example, HoLEP and GreenLight PVP, have a noteworthy
expense point of interest contrasted and TURP principally on account of shorter hospitalizations and
less horribleness (Liatsikos E, Kyriazis I, Kallidonis P, Sakellaropoulos G, Maniadakis N,

catheterization time, length of healing center stay, demand for analgesics, danger of dying, and rate

Pubmed Reflection Paper
One of the most fruitful professional development opportunities this summer was the training
program offered through the National Library of Medicine's National Training Center, PubMed for
Trainers. The 4 part course provided an in–depth look at PubMed, new tools and search strategies.
The training included an additional instructional design component in addition to being exposed to
the logic and methodologies used in PubMed will enhance my teaching of the platform. The training
and the instructional design are going to be invaluable heading into the Fall semester. The
instructional design sessions have guided and refined my upcoming library instruction sessions for

Prenatal Care and Preterm Births Essay
Prenatal Care and Preterm Births
In the last 20 years the hopes of survival for neonates have seen significant increase, almost all of
the causes of perinatal mortality and morbidity have decreased. There is only one threat unmoved,
still standing above the rest– Preterm birth. Prematurity or preterm birth is defined as the birth of
any child between 20–37 weeks of gestation. Delivery prior to 20 weeks of gestation is considered a
Natural abortion.1 The survival rate of low birth weight infants has significantly increased from 15–
80% in the last 20 years. However, the incidence of prematurity has not seen any change, neither
decrease nor increase. Currently the average incidence is 10–11%.1
There are noticeable sex and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main reason that the incidence has remained static is that there has been no clear definition of
the chain of events that result in pre–term birth. Without an understanding of how it happens, there
can be no way of stopping the process, and further, of stopping the process once it has begun being
that there is no way of knowing exactly at what stage it is. There has recently been a strong theory
proposed which needs to be given more attention, the prostaglandin theory. Briefly, pro–
inflammatory cytokines and other immunomodulatory proteins produced by either overt or sub–
clinical infection stimulate prostaglandin synthesis and release. This ultimately induces the synthesis
and release of metalloproteases, which bring on cervical ripening and membrane weakening and
rupture. 4 The increased survival rate with a static incidence means that there are more people with
problems in society, more NICU's being filled, more families are having to learn to live with
someone that is handicapped, more problems arise with health care funding as more people have
chronic health problems, and with a little creativity and a careful eye, the rest of this paper could be
a list of the problems that are arising. Some known morbidities of preterm birth include Cerebral
Palsy, ADHD, growth retardation, respiratory distress syndrom, decreased cognitive ability,
decreased academic skills, decreased visual and gross motor

Scarlet Fever Research Paper
One of the many microorganisms that are present in human flora is Streptococcus Pyogenes. "This
microorganism belongs in Group A β–hemolytic streptococcus" (VanMeter K.C and Hubert R.J,
2016,p.302). What is most surprising is that this same microorganism can also cause some of the
most devastating diseases. According to Samson SY Wong and Kwok–Yung Yuen, (Streptococcus
Pyogenes and re–emergence of scarlet fever as a public health problem,2012,para.2), "Streptococcus
Pyogenes is one of the most virulent species causing human infections." Conversely, if the same
pathogen invades compromised skin, they can cause sepsis. Consequently, (Scarlet Fever:
Overview–PubMed Health, 2017,p.2) "Although these kinds of serious complications are rare, they

According to S. Basetti et al,(p. 78, para. 8,9) Treatment for Scarlet fever is by Penicillin V
regiment. They also advocate for treating accompanying symptoms with over the counter
medications namely ibuprofen. Other non–pharmacological treatments is ensuring fluid and
electrolyte balance through hydration. These treatments are not only useful to treating the sick host
but also serve a purpose of limiting the transmission of the disease by limiting the amount of time
the host is contagious and thus breaking down the chain of infection. While this type of infection is
"self limiting", in some cases it could lead to more complications. These include acute rheumatic
fever and other complications such as pharyngitis. According to PubMed Health, Scarlet fever
sometimes led to serious complications, before the development of

  • 1. Non Hodgkin Lymphoma Case Study Incidence of Non–Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL) has been increasing for the past few decades. It has reached a plateau in the last 20 years. DLBCL accounts for 40% of total NHL. CD 20 negative plasmablastic variant of DLBCL has been described as a rapidly progressive tumor, almost exclusively involving jaw and oral mucosa [1]. It has been described in literature that plasmablastic lymphoma shows an excessive predilection to male gender, HIV infection [1] and other immunodeficiency conditions. • 3. The Challenges For Students Today Writing a research paper is one of the toughest challenges for students today. An obstacle to success is locating and navigating different databases and making sure that research sources are credible and scholarly. We are lucky, in that CSU Global Library has given its students access to several different databases, therefore, making it easier to navigate vast amounts of information. I found two different databases that will be helpful with my two areas of interest, healthcare management and clinical research. The first database is EBSCO. It is a database with a broad range of topics. It includes information on health care, corporations, business, government and includes links to public libraries as well as links to information that will be helpful for K–12 students. The second database is PubMed. Where EBSCO was a database filled with information on a broad range of topics, PubMed is streamlined and contains information on biomedical sciences. PubMed contains over 26 million citations from biomedical literature, MEDLINE, books and scientific journals. EBSCO Search Engine When starting at the CSU Global Library's main page, EBSCO's first search results cannot be reduced. It is a simple word or topic search, but once a general topic is entered a better defined search can begin. The database allows you to use multiple topic expanders and limiters, therefore, narrowing down the information you are searching. Students can search for full text articles or search for ... • 5. Medical Website Analysis We, as 21st century individuals, live in a world where information is at our fingertips. This is one of the many reasons why the internet has quickly become known as a place where individuals can get any questions answered within seconds. Many patients are even turning to the internet to get their health questions answers! Unfortunately, not all medical websites are created equally. This paper will compare and contrast the credibility, accuracy and usability of three medical websites: PubMed, WebMD and Patient. Reasoning behind selecting PubMed, WebMD and Patient I selected the medical websites PubMed, WebMD and Patient each for their own specific reasons. PubMed intrigued me because it is a government run health website. I selected this website because I thought it may be interesting to compare a government website with a non–profit and a for–profit website. My second website, WebMD, was selected due to its vast popularity with patients. The final website selection, Patient, was a website that I had never heard ... What is the Thyroid Hormones? The thyroid hormones, often referred to as the major metabolic hormones, affect virtually every cell in the body. Hyperthyroidism is a pathological syndrome in which tissue is exposed to excessive amounts of circulating thyroid hormone. The most common cause of this syndrome is Graves' disease, followed by toxic multinodular goiter, and solitary hyper functioning nodules. Autoimmune postpartum and subacute thyroiditis, tumors that secrete thyrotropin, and drug–induced thyroid dysfunction, are also important causes (Sharma, Aronow, Patel, Gandhi, Desai, 2011). • 15. The Link Between Food Promotion And Eating Behavior Over the past year political momentum has grown for strong action to tackle childhood obesity and there is an emerging consensus that regulation of food advertising to children is both necessary and achievable. A key factor in this debate has been the publication of the Food Standards Agency 's (FSA) review of research into the link between food promotion and eating behaviour in children, undertaken by Professor Gerard Hastings and colleagues at the University of Strathclyde.2 Though the findings are heavily qualified, the authors conclude that advertising to children does have an adverse effect on food preferences, purchasing behaviour and consumption. Comment in the media was less ambivalent: the report was taken as clear evidence that the large food corporations are out of control and that tough action is required to curb their excesses. The Lancet concurred, with an editorial attacking sports celebrities and food manufacturers for their cynical promotion of junk food and demanding legislation to force the junk–food industry to 'clean up its act '.3 Some of the big brand companies, including Coca–Cola and Heinz, responded with a declaration that they would stop advertising their products to children; and the Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell asked the new television regulator, Ofcom, to review its advertising code for children. • 19. Discussion Of A Systematic English Language Literature... Discussion A systematic English–language literature review using PubMed was conducted. Searches included "etonogestrel implant and pregnancy," "etonogestrel implant failure," "Implanon and pregnancy," and "Nexplanon and pregnancy." The literature revealed that pregnancy with concomitant use of Implanon and Nexplanon is extremely rare. A total of 4103 women–years, comprising over 53,000 treatment cycles, were included in the initial clinical trials during Implanon development. There were no reported pregnancies during these trials leading to the resulting Pearl Index of 0.0 (95% CI, 0.0–0.9) (4). In 2004, a postmarketing case series in Australia looking at unintended pregnancies with Implanon was published. This study compiled over 200 unintended pregnancies while Implanon was in use that were reported to the Australian Adverse Drug Reactions Advisory Committee during the first three years of marketing in that country. After excluding 91 women for reasons including insufficient data and pregnancy prior to Implanon insertion, a total of 127 cases of Implanon failure resulting in pregnancy was observed. The authors of this study found that the most common reason for unintended pregnancy was failure to insert the implant (84 cases). Following this were incorrect timing of insertion (19 cases), product failure (13 cases), interaction with hepatic enzyme–inducing medications (8 cases), and expulsion of Implanon (3 cases). I chose CINAHL initially, but I was only able to find one article, and it was more of female patients with fertility problems. So, I used PubMed, looked for "low cholesterol diet" and I found 14,942 articles. I chose to add filters for "free full text" and "publications within five years." This brought my results down to 1,589 articles. When I typed "low cholesterol diet" into Google Scholar, I got back over 1.6 million results. I used the date filter only to receive articles from 2010–2016, which netted me around 87,000 articles. • 27. Diabetes: Types, Causes, and Effects Diabetes is a chronic illness that affects the lives of millions of individuals all around the world. This disease affects both children and adults, totaling 25.8 million of individuals who are officially diagnosed, or on the verge of a diagnosis (ADA 2012). It causes the death of tens of thousands of people annually, and can lead to greater complications such as heart disease and stroke. Diabetes is initially caused by the imbalance of glucose in the body. Glucose is a sugar that the body's cells need in order to survive (PubMed 2012). It provides it with the energy necessary to allow the body to function on a day to day basis. Different factors lead to the uncontrollable nature of glucose that defines diabetes. In Type I Diabetes, the body does not have the ability to produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone secreted from an organ called the pancreas which acts as a receptor on individual cells. This receptor allows for the glucose to enter the cells and provide it with the energy necessary to survive. When there is not enough insulin, then glucose does not enter the cells, and instead stays in the bloodstream. Artificial insulin shots need to be administered to individuals with Type I Diabetes in order to allow the glucose in their system to enter their cells where they need it (PubMed 2012). Another type of Diabetes is Type 2 Diabetes; this is the most common type of Diabetes. Unlike Type 1, Type 2 Diabetes is caused by the body's inability to respond to insulin. The ... Operative Morbidity And Mortality On Patients With Diabetes Peri–operative morbidity and mortality is higher in patients with diabetes (1, 2), and they have a longer hospital stay than non–diabetic patients. There is a lot of evidence to show that poor glycaemic control before, during and after surgery increases the risk of adverse outcomes, irrespective of whether the patient is a diabetic or not. (3) Peri–operative hyperglycaemia in surgical patients is associated with increased complications following surgery, especially wound infections. (4) Prevention of hyperglycaemia reduces the risk of complications of cardiac surgery (5, 6) and also reduces morbidity and mortality in intensive care patients.(7) There is sufficient ground to assume that this holds true beyond the cardiac surgical and cardiac ICU patients, and is applicable to all patients with diabetes undergoing surgery.(8) There is an increasing body of evidence to show that apart from control of acute blood sugar fluctuations in the peri–operative period, long– term control of blood sugar levels also plays an important role in reducing diabetic complications after surgery. HbA1c (glycosylated haemoglobin) is an important marker of long– term glycaemic control. Glycosylation of haemoglobin is a non–enzymatic irreversible reaction between haemoglobin beta chains and glucose molecules, the extent of glycosylation being dependant on the average blood sugar levels over the preceding three months. This week we were to use PubMed to search for research that pertained to two of our PICO questions. We explored PubMed in the foundations class last semester. The only previous use of PubMed may have been through articles found in Google Scholar. Finding keywords was not difficult and my schedule allowed enough time for the search. Filters beyond "full text" "human" and "review" led to zero articles found. One to three filters brought up one to twelve articles and at the most seventy. This may be because from evaluating the PubMed research it appeared more common to pair exercise with fibromyalgia or ankylosing spondylitis than manual or craniosacral therapy. The frustration came in finding articles that fit the keywords craniosacral and manual therapy. I noticed that if a study wanted to prove the efficacy of using one drug, one piece of equipment over another, or if the intervention was a tried and true modality for physical therapy, the studies were published. • 39. Non-Verbal Communication and Attractiveness in the Courtroom Running Head: BEYOND WORDS Non–verbal Communication Attractiveness Background Ethological studies on non–linguistic communication suggested that the language of love is, indeed, universal (Givens, 1978). This non–linguistic or non–verbal communication is used in courtship, such as by facial expression, gesture, posture, distance, para–language, and gaze. Persons use these when symbolizing a desire for sexual relationship. This non–verbal form is considered more powerful the verbal form in expressing like, dislike, superiority, timidity, fear and other feelings or emotions (Bateson, 1966, 1968 as qtd in Givens). In fact, human courtship relies a great deal on these non–verbal signals, such as submissiveness and affiliation. A submissive–affiliative pose or gesture creates a peaceable or non–threatening image, which is aimed at attracting the sought–after mate. These studies investigated several familiar non–verbal cues used during flirtation, courtship, and seduction (Givens). Non–Verbal Communication and Attractiveness in the Courtroom Other studies found the connection and significance of this type of communication in five key areas in the court room (Remland, 1993). These key areas are the voire dire or a preliminary examination of prospective jurors by the judge; and jury analysis; opening and closing statements; client behavior and direct examination; cross examination, ad judge demeanor and communication. Introduction: As of 2013, there were 97 countries with sustained malaria transmission, and 7 countries in prevention of the reintroduction phase, making a total of 104 countries where malaria is presently considered endemic 1,3,10,15,24. It is estimated that 3.4 billion people are at risk of malaria and WHO estimates that 207 million cases of malaria occurred globally with 627,000 deaths in 20121,3,10,15,24. 80% of cases occurred in Africa and most deaths (77%) occurred in children under the age of 5 3,7,10,15,23,24. The burden faced in Sub–Saharan Africa continues to be a challenge for national governments. Increasing resistance to drugs and pesticides, the lack of capacity to implement programs effectively and low public education about malaria are only a few of the many complications that African governments must address to effectively combat malaria 1,3,7,10,15,18,20,23. In order to reduce malaria incidence, some African countries are moving back towards dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT), an insecticide once widely used throughout the world for agricultural and public health purposes1, 3,10,15,16,23. Dr. Paul Müller discovered chemical DDT effectiveness on insects just prior to World War II. His work received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1948 1,9. • 43. Inorganic Chemicals Cause Water Pollution Inorganic chemicals is one of most important causes to water pollutants. These inorganic pollutants naturally found in environment but due to human develepment activities, these pollutant amount has been increasing rapidly and released into water bodies. The most common inorganic pollutants from water are ammonium, phosphorus, arsenic, cadmiun, zinc, lead etc. It is highly toxic to human and environment (Choi et al., 2011). The inorganic pollutant such as ammonia and phosphorus promote eutrophication, which excessive amounts of these inorganic pollutant releasing into the water can accelerate this phenomena in a few years (Donald M et al., 2002). The overgrowth of plants and subsequent death have been created green layer on the surface of water bodies. These layer can be blocked the penetration of light and oxidation process into the water bodies. Thus, depletion of dissolved oxygen can be occurred in the water and affected aquatic life. The death and decay of aquatic life contribute unpleasant smells and increasing the turbidity of water bodies (Conley et al., 2009). In additional, the heavy metal such as arsenic can causes skin, lung, bladder, and kidney cancer as well as pigmentation changes, skin thickening (hyperkeratosis) neurological disorders, muscular weakness, loss of appetite, and nausea (Mohan and Pittman, 2007). • 51. Snow Leopard Research Paper The organism I have is the snow leopard. As many of you know, the snow leopard is a mammal. The snow leopard is apart of the Felidae family. There are many different types of cells found in mammals. Four of the most commonly known cells are epithelial cells, fibroblasts, lymphocytes, and macrophages. Lymphocytes are found in the blood. Epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and macrophages are found in the tissue. Fibroblasts, epithelial cells, lymphocytes, and macrophages are the most important and best known cells in the snow leopards body (EDVOTEK and The Biotechnology Education Company). Fibroblasts have a nucleus and secrete protein for the animal and they also fight off diseases and heal wounds (EDVOTEK and The Biotechnology Education Company). Epithelial cells develop in sheets that separate the animal from the environment, allowing it to survive. These cells are mainly found in the digestive system, endocrine and reproductive system. A lymphocyte is a type of white blood cell, which is part of the immune system (PubMed Health Glossary). There are two types B and T cells (PubMed Health Glossary). B cells make antibodies that attack viruses, and bacteria (PubMed Health Glossary). T cells destroy the animals own cells that have been taken over by a virus so it can not become cancerous (PubMed Health a Glossary). The last main cells are Macrophages. A huge obstacle to success is locating and navigating different databases and making sure that research sources are credible and scholarly. We are lucky, in that CSU Global Library has given its students access to several different databases, making it easier to navigate vast amounts of information. I found two different databases that I feel will be helpful with my two areas of interest, healthcare management and clinical research. The first database is EBSCO. It is a database with a broad range of topics. It includes information on health care, corporations, business, government and military and includes links to public libraries as well as links to information that will be helpful for K–12 students. The second database is PubMed. Where EBSCO was a database filled with information on a broad range of topics, PubMed is more streamlined and contains information on biomedical sciences. PubMed comprised over 26 million citations from biomedical literature, MEDLINE, books and scientific journals. EBSCO Search Engine When starting at the CSU Global Library's main page, EBSCO's first search cannot be narrowed down. It is a simple word or topic search, but once a general topic is entered a more defined search can begin. The database allows you to use multiple topic expanders and limiters to narrow down the information you are looking for. You can search for full text articles or search ... Search terms (1–word term plus a "2– word" term) 1–word term: Chemotherapy 2–word term: "Childhood Cancer" 2. Summary of database search (up to 500 words): My two–word search term is "childhood cancer" and my one– word search term is chemotherapy. My initial search was through Scopus. I searched both of the terms using the Boolean Operator "AND" to ensure that my search retrieved sources that had both of my search terms. For my two–word term, I added quotation marks around it because I wanted to search the two words together. The range of years for publications that appeared were from 2017 until the year 1958 with a total of 49 different years in between. A total of 6,790 articles were shown. After I limited my search to only nursing, articles, and articles in press, my total number came down to 113. After I limited my search to the years 2003–2017, only 89 articles remained. After performing a Google search on the author with the highest cited article using the specified format, I retrieved a total of 1,460 hits. In Google Scholar, I retrieved 437 hits. On PubMed, I initially searched term 1 with quotation marks around it along with my search term 2 using the Boolean Operator "AND" and was able to retrieve 6,778 articles. Prenatal Care and Preterm Births Essay Prenatal Care and Preterm Births In the last 20 years the hopes of survival for neonates have seen significant increase, almost all of the causes of perinatal mortality and morbidity have decreased. There is only one threat unmoved, still standing above the rest– Preterm birth. Prematurity or preterm birth is defined as the birth of any child between 20–37 weeks of gestation. Delivery prior to 20 weeks of gestation is considered a Natural abortion.1 The survival rate of low birth weight infants has significantly increased from 15– 80% in the last 20 years. However, the incidence of prematurity has not seen any change, neither decrease nor increase. Currently the average incidence is 10–11%.1 There are noticeable sex and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main reason that the incidence has remained static is that there has been no clear definition of the chain of events that result in pre–term birth. Without an understanding of how it happens, there can be no way of stopping the process, and further, of stopping the process once it has begun being that there is no way of knowing exactly at what stage it is. There has recently been a strong theory proposed which needs to be given more attention, the prostaglandin theory. Briefly, pro– inflammatory cytokines and other immunomodulatory proteins produced by either overt or sub– clinical infection stimulate prostaglandin synthesis and release. This ultimately induces the synthesis and release of metalloproteases, which bring on cervical ripening and membrane weakening and rupture. 4 The increased survival rate with a static incidence means that there are more people with problems in society, more NICU's being filled, more families are having to learn to live with someone that is handicapped, more problems arise with health care funding as more people have chronic health problems, and with a little creativity and a careful eye, the rest of this paper could be a list of the problems that are arising.
