This document discusses various note making techniques and strategies. It begins with an in-class activity where students are split into groups. Then it outlines the objectives and learning outcomes of learning effective note making techniques. Various note making methods are described such as the Cornell method, outlining, charting, sentence method and mind mapping. Students then participate in individual and group activities where they apply these note making strategies, identify their learning styles, develop notes from materials and create an instructional video. The goal is to help students discover their preferred note making method and apply it effectively.

32. The Outline method
• The Outlining note taking method uses headings and bullet points to organize topics.
• This method is most useful when learning about topics that include a lot of detail.
• This format can be most effective when your note taking skills are super sharp and you can handle the
outlining regardless of the note taking situation.

34. The Charting method
• You use a table or a spreadsheet structure to organise information into different
categories or topics.
• How does it work;
• Divide your page in to separate columns.
• Give each column a heading or a label. Think about how you want to organise your notes to identify
the most useful headings.
• Enter notes under the relevant column.
• You can use it;
• when you prepare for exams, tests or tutorials.
• when you are reading for assignments.
• to organize information to easily see relationships.
• to make comparison between different ideas or concepts.
37. Sentence method
• Write every new thought, fact or topic on a separate line, numbering as
you progress.
• Simply write down each topic as a quick note sentence.
• Good for fast paced lessons where lot of information is being covered.
• Each line on the page will be new and separate sentence.
• You can use headings for each main topic.
• You can write down important information teacher highlight.
39. When to use Mind Mapping;
• In a lecture and listening for the most important points or keywords
• Showing links and relationships between the main ideas in your subject
• Brainstorming all the things you already know about an essay question
• Planning the early stages of an essay by visualising all the aspects of the
question
• Organising your ideas and information by making it accessible on a single page
• Stimulating creative thinking and creative solutions to problems
• Reviewing learning in preparation for a test or examination.
40. How to start Mind Mapping;
• Place the central theme/main idea or controlling point in the centre of your page.
• You may find it easier to place your page on the side, in landscape orientation,
which is easier for drawing purposes.
• Use lines, arrows, speech bubbles, branches and different colours as ways of
showing the connection between the central theme/main idea and your ideas
which stem from that focus.
• The relationships are important, as they may form your essay paragraphs.
• Avoid creating an artistic masterpiece.

Editor's Notes
I will be doing in-class activities
You can comment based on the answer you are getting. If there are more ‘No’ -> I have a good group of students who are following good practices. If there are more ‘Yes’ -> You will understand what is the best once we complete the todays’ workshop. You can ask from the students who say ‘yes’, why they say like that and develop the conversation.
Discuss how students have take notes during A/L and O/L time.
Let the students listen and watch the video and then answer the questions.
Ask the students to raise the hand for the correct answer when you spell the number. 2 is the answer.
