Introduction to internet marketing
Simply, the term online marketing refers to using the power of
Internet advertising to generate a response from your audience.
Also known as Internet marketing or web marketing, online
marketing is used by companies selling goods and services directly
to consumers as well as those who operate in the business-to-
business sphere.
Online marketing offers several benefits. It's convenient,
affordable, and provides the opportunity for companies to track
campaign results. Internet marketing allows even the smallest
company to compete in a global marketplace.

Advertisement
– Online advertising, also called Internet advertising, uses the
Internet to deliver promotional marketing messages to consumers. It
includes email marketing, search engine marketing, social media
marketing, many types of display advertising (including web
banner advertising), and mobile advertising. Like other advertising
media, online advertising frequently involves both a publisher, who
integrates advertisements into its online content, and an advertiser,
who provides the advertisements to be displayed on the publisher's
content. Other potential participants include advertising agencies
who help generate and place the ad copy, an ad server who
technologically delivers the ad and tracks statistics, and advertising
affiliates who do independent promotional work for the advertiser.

Public Relation
• Public relations (PR) is the practice of managing the spread
of information between an individual or an organization and
the public. Public relations may include an organization
or individual gaining exposure to their audiences using topics
of public interest and news items that do not require direct
payment. The aim of public relations by a company often is to
persuade the public, investors, partners, employees, and
other stakeholders to maintain a certain point of view about
it, its leadership, products, or of political decisions. Common
activities include speaking at conferences, winning industry
awards, working with the press, and employee
communication.

Social Media
• Social media marketing refers to the process of
gaining website traffic or attention through social media sites.
• Social media marketing programs usually center on efforts to
create content that attracts attention and encourages readers
to share it with their social networks. The resulting electronic
word of mouth (eWoM) refers to any statement consumers
share via the Internet (e.g., web sites, social networks, instant
messages, news feeds) about an event, product, service,
brand or company. When the underlying message spreads
from user to user and presumably resonates because it
appears to come from a trusted, third-party source, as
opposed to the brand or company itself ,this form of
marketing results in earned media rather than paid media.

Domain Name
• A domain name is a unique name that identifies a website. It is
an identification string that defines a realm of administrative
autonomy, authority or control on the Internet. Domain names
are formed by the rules Domain Name System (DNS). Any name
registered in the DNS is a domain name. The functional
description of domain names is presented in the Domain Name
System article. Broader usage and industry aspects are
captured here.
• Domain names are used in various networking contexts and
application-specific naming and addressing purposes. In
general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP)
resource, such as a personal computer used to access the
Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site
itself or any other service communicated via the Internet.

Website
• A website, also written as web site, or simply site, is a set of
related web pages served from a single web domain. A website
is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via a network
such as the Internet or a private local area network through an
Internet address known as a Uniform resource locator. All
publicly accessible websites collectively constitute the World
Wide Web.
• A webpage is a document typically written in plain
text interspersed with formatting instructions of Hypertext
Markup Language (HTML, XHTML). A webpage may incorporate
elements from other websites with suitable markup anchors.

• Webpages are accessed and transported with the Hypertext
Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which may optionally employ
encryption (HTTP Secure, HTTPS) to provide security and
privacy for the user of the webpage content. The user's
application, often a web browser, renders the page content
according to its HTML markup instructions onto a display
terminal.

• The theme for this month’s wrap-up is online security. We’ve
been approached by a few of our clients that have expressed
concerns about their online safety – not to mention all we’ve read
in the news lately about celebrities and politicians having their
accounts hacked. As a result, we want to address many of the
concerns being voiced and discuss tips for how to keep yourself
safe online without undermining your digital marketing strategies.

• To Click or Not to Click: Some of that fastest spreading
malware comes from your closest contacts – be cautious of
suspicious links
• Fear, Privacy, & Anxiety: You can’t live your life being too
afraid to use the internet, setup secure behavior and accept a
certain degree of exposure.
• Website Security: Websites are particularly susceptible to all
types of malware – know who to call if your site goes down.

IP Address
• The Internet Protocol (IP) is the method or protocol by
which data is sent from one computer to another on
the Internet. Each computer (known as a host) on the Internet
has at least one IP Address that uniquely identifies it from all
other computers on the Internet.
• When you send or receive data (for example, an e-mail note or
a Web page), the message gets divided into little chunks called
packets. Each of these packets contains both the sender's
Internet address and the receiver's address. Any packet is sent
first to a gateway computer that understands a small part of the
Internet.

• The gateway computer reads the destination address and
forwards the packet to an adjacent gateway that in turn reads
the destination address and so forth across the Internet until
one gateway recognizes the packet as belonging to a
computer within its immediate neighborhood or domain. That
gateway then forwards the packet directly to the computer
whose address is specified.
