4. What is a plastic?
A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic
or semi- synthetic organic amorphous solids used in the manufactu
of industrial products.
plastic are typically polymer of high molecular mass
and many contain other substances to improve performance and/or
reduce costs. Monomers of plastic are either natural or synthetic
organic compounds.
5. The following types of waste plastic can be used in
the construction of rural roads:
โข films ( Carry Bags, Cups) thickness up to 60micron (PE, PP and
PS)
โข Hard foams (PS) any thickness
โข Soft Foams (PE and PP) any thickness.
โข Laminated Plastics thickness up to 60 micron (Aluminum coated
also) packing materials used for biscuits, chocolates, etc.,
12. -Similarly the bitumen is heated up to a maximum of 160 degree to
have a good binding and to prevent weak boding
-The shredded plastic waste is added in equal proportion.
13. ๏ฑThe plastic waste coated aggregate mixed with bitumen
is used for road construction.
๏ฑThe road laying temperature is between 110- 120 degree.
๏ฑThe roller used is 8 ton capacity.
14. MERITS:
โข Use higher percentage of plastic waste
โข Reduce the need of bitumen by around 10%.
โข Increase the strength and performance of the road.
โข Reduce the cost to around Rs.5000/km of single land road.
โข Generate jobs for rag pickers.
โข Develop a technology, which is eco-friendly.
15. DEMERITS:
1.Cleaning process-toxic co-mingled in waste plastic.

16. ๏ฑ A method to decrease the environmental pollution.
๏ฑ Plastic will increase the melting point of the bitumen.
๏ฑ Plastic road would be a boon for India hot and extremely humid climate where
and eco-friendly roads which will relive the earth from plastic waste.
