The Women’s Heart Health Program at UMass
Memorial Medical Center provides a unique service —
cardiac care designed specifically for women. The
program focused on risk factor modification and
prevention of heart disease.
Our program tailors cardiovascular care to fit your
needs, and is designed to allow you to take better
care of yourself through healthy heart habits. To
begin, our experts complete a heart assessment that
includes:
• Health history
• Cardiovascular risk screening test
• Family history of cardiovascular disease
• Complete cardiovascular physical exam
• Education about your individual cardiovascular risk
factors
• Blood tests, including lipids and glucose
• Calculation of body mass index (BMI)
• Development of an individualized plan for you to
share with your primary care physician
You’ll leave with a detailed assessment of your

Program Director
Heart disease is the #1 killer of women. But often
women are too busy caring for others to take
time to care for themselves. Knowing about
heart disease can help you reduce your risks and
recognize the warning signs of a heart attack
before it’s too late. Cardiovascular disease
develops slowly over time and is largely
preventable.
While heart disease threatens both men and
women, gender differences make it more of a
challenge to diagnose and treat the disease in
women. Heart disease is the leading cause of
death in women, and women often experience
symptoms that are different from men. Aside
from the classic heart attack symptoms of sharp
chest pain and shortness of breath, women can
also have less obvious symptoms including:
• Generalized pressure in the chest
• Discomfort in the back, shoulders, arms,
stomach, jaw, neck or throat
• Indigestion
• Nausea and vomiting
• Lightheadedness
• Palpitations
• Unexplained fatigue Call for an appointment today with the Women’s Heart Health Program
