1. SHOWCASE IDEA - 3 Lakeside Step down Unit
Title: WOWs and brackets across the medical
center!

The WOWs (scanner, keyboard, screen) were not
being disinfected after patient contact for many
reasons (lack of knowledge with staff/providers,
saniwipe disinfectant wipes not readily available
when needed, no where to put wipes on wows,
baskets on back of wows filled with medical
supplies needed for patient etc)
IDEA: We discussed at a 3LSD idea huddle possible
solutions. We decided to remove baskets on the
back of all WOWS and install brackets that can hold
a container of sani-wipes thus making it readily
available for all providers to clean their wows. Idea
was shared with staff at professional practice
council/Nurse executive board/NIC and gained
approval. Baskets were removed and brackets were
installed across all 3 medical campuses (379 wows
in total) Education was also provided.

Results
Staff from 6E/W,4E/W and Maternity loved the

2. SHOWCASE IDEA – Maternity
Title: Rounding log info
Dept. & Team:
Karin Rondeau- Maternity. Memorial Hospital
Problem:
There was no way to gain feed back from the
patients experience.
Specific questions needed to be answered:
1. Did your RN speak to you about your
emotional needs? Were they met?
2. Did you feel included in the decision making
process regarding your care?
Why:
Patient Experience
Idea:
Utilize feedback from patients. Make them feel
included . Round on patients daily.
Implemented Idea:
Created a log to utilize that asks patients
specific questions we need to know for the
unit. Round on patients daily to determine
where are strengths and weaknesses are and
write resolution an follow-up on form.
Maintained in a log.
Results
1. All records are now maintained in a log
2. We do daily rounds on patients to access
strengths and weaknesses.

3. SHOWCASE IDEA – University Radiology
Title: Replenishing Our IP Cassette Holders

Problem Idea
Go through all cassettes that have been taken out of
service and try to repair and match up good IP’s with
good cassettes.

Put 20 cassettes in service. Saved
our department approximately
$22,000 and provided department
with necessary equipment.
Our supply of IP cassette
holders (what our images
are captured on) has been
gradually diminishing due to
being taken out of service
because of damage.
Sometimes overnight tech’s
have to make two trips on
rounds because there is not
enough. The cassettes and
holders are expensive
(Approximately $1,100 a
piece)
