Final Speech: Speech Analysis
Throughout the public speaking course, I 've learned a variety of methods and strategies that have
strengthened the effectiveness of my last speech or any speech, that may occur in the near distant
future. It was important to understand the elements that were effective and ineffective to avoid
making the same mistakes and to have a clear understanding where I may have fallen short in the
past and could improve in the future of public speaking. When constructing the persuasive speech, it
was important to use the rhetorical methods such as the a few of the 5 canons of Rhetoric as well as a
few communication strategies, these tips have definitely improved my persuasive speech
effectiveness.
In addition to class lectures as well as following along with the textbook I had collected tons of
detailed information about the 5 canons of rhetoric, such as each canon is an individual category
with a list of methods that could help improve any speech when the methods are used correctly.
The first category, Invention I had used notes from class that suggested that my topic of my
speeches should always be something that mattered to me as well as matter to my audience. The
First cannon had defiantly been a large part creating my speeches, When selecting a topic it was
more enjoyable creating my outlines as well as delivering my speech. A great example would be
my persuasion speech, I had chosen to write about convincing people to become organ donors. This

My Self-Evaluation Of Speech
This paper will discuss mine self–evaluation and do into detail about my first speech. My first
speech takes place in front of my class and I have to tell a story of an experience that has
happened to me. Telling a speech was a new experience for me and I embrace the challenge. A
speech can have an impact on a person life and the audience can also relate a topic that is being
presented. I will explore and go into the details of ethos, pathos and logos of my speech for my
personal assessment. I think I did a good job presenting my ethos through my speech story. I
convince my audience with my credibility through my speech and the way how talk throughout
the speech. For example, throughout my whole speech, I shown my hands and did not hide my
hands. By keeping my hands in plain view, it shows my audience nonverbally that I can be
trusted. The volume of my voice was at a normal speaking tone and was not too low. Most of my
audience was able to hear me and listen to me very clearly. I also presented myself with
confidence and gave off the impression that I was prepared. For example, I had a smile and had
constant eye contact with my audience throughout my speech. There was certain things that I was
doing that was ineffective while I was talking. Throughout my speech, I kept saying um and was
pausing at times. I did not realize how much I was saying and doing these actions. These actions are
something I need to work on more when I present my public communication to my audience

Audience Analysis Paper When it comes to writing and presenting a speech, the audience is a big
factor to account for. Who are you speaking to? How do you grab their attention? Where, when, and
why are you speaking to these people? There are a lot of things to consider when there is a
presentation to be given. When analyzing an audience, there is a process in which to go about doing

Speech Self-Analysis
The best thing I see myself doing during the introduction is catching their attention with the topic. I
saw myself move around more than I did in previous speeches, even though it was minimal. My
voice was the least shaky throughout the introduction as it was my most memorized part of my
speech. I believe overall, this speech was among one of my best speeches given during the duration
of the course. I believe I gave my audience great life examples during my speech to help them not
repeat the same mistakes I made.

I would change my overall confidence when delivering the speech. I would like to change how I

I believe in terms of delivery I did alright in the informative and special occasion speech. I took a
tumble in delivery with the persuasive speech by not preparing well enough. In terms of delivery,
I feel I greatly became more confident as the semester went on excluding the persuasive speech.
The special occasion speech I began to move around a little while delivering the speech. I believe I
actually had forgotten about my lisp when delivering and preparing to deliver speeches as the
semester went on which is awesome. I see myself fidgeting less as the semester speeches went on as
well.

Analysis Of Malala Yousafzai Speech
Malala Yousafzai's Speech I am honored to be chosen to pick a speech and read it for the
conference. I have chosen Malala Yousafzai's speech on free education for women and children
around the world. In the speech given by Malala Yousafzai on July 12, 2013 at the Youth takeover
of the United Nations, she claims that we must take action and help fight for women's rights and free
education for all around the world, and that the acts of terrorism against women and children should
be stopped. The speaker establishes the hopefulness for the women and children around the
world who lack a basic education and are judged by their race and gender to give hope that they
might be able to achieve a free education for all. She wrote this speech to inform the audience
about the lack of education for women and children. Malala Yousafzai's speech is the most
moving out of the three choices because the speaker creates a powerful message by using
anecdotes, repetition and ethos to convey her overall message to the audience. Malala Yousafzai
used an anecdote in her speech to relate her story with the audience. In the speech it says, "The
terrorists thought that they would change our aims and stop our ambitions but nothing changed
in my life except this: Weakness, fear and hopelessness died. Strength, power and courage was
born." This example gives the audience hope that they can take action and achieve gender
equality rights by using their words and actions. The anecdote appeals to the audience's emotions,
by using specific word choice such as strength, power, and courage. This helps connect Malala's
view to the audience. "I remember that there was a boy in our school who was asked by a
journalist, Why are the Taliban against education? He answered very simply. By pointing to his
book he said, A Talib doesn't know what is written inside this book. They think that God is a tiny,
little conservative being who would send girls to hell just because of going to school. The terrorists
are misusing the name of Islam and Pashtun society for their own personal beliefs." This quote

of a recorded or visual message. The purpose of textual analysis is to describe the content, structure
and functions of the message contained in text. There are many approaches to textual analysis. I

Ronald Reagan: Challenger Speech Essay
On January 28, 1986, a day that was supposed to be filled with excitement and exploration,
suddenly turned into a day filled with tragedy and sadness. The space shuttle Challenger was
supposed to carry a seven member crew into orbit with one unique member along for this
particular mission. Christa McAuliffe was supposed to be the first teacher to go into space as a

Reagan adds his feelings of faith and respect in our space program and the people at NASA who
make it possible. He goes on to assure that space exploration will continue. While addressing the
school children who were watching, Reagan states that "the future belongs to the brave." He also
states unfortunately painful things like this sometimes happen and sadly it is all part of the process

I feel that the substance and context of Reagan's speech were eloquently put. Reagan states that

Informative Speech self–evaluation I don't think that I did so well during this last presentation. I
did a lot of research about the drone I was talking about and I knew what I was going to say about
the product. When I got up there I realized I didn't know it as well as I thought I was going to. I
should have put more practice into my presentation. I felt like I practiced but it was all in my

Motivational Speech Rhetorical Analysis
The speech I am analyzing was given by Jon Bowers, a UPS driving and delivery trainer, in
Atlanta Georgia in July 2017. Bowers was giving a motivational speech on why we should aim
for perfection and not fear failure. He was giving this speech to an audience of listeners at a TED
convention. The audience appears to be composed of a wide variety of age groups from multiple
different backgrounds. The audience likely already had interest in the subject matter as they chose
to attend speech knowing what it was about. The audience is rather large and likely contains
several hundred people. The target audience is unclear as the topic is so broad that it can apply to
basically anyone. The speaker is clearly intending to motivate the audience to achieve higher. This
is clear as the entirety of the speech is dedicated to him trying to motivate everyone to shoot for
perfection and stop fearing failure. The speech opens by asking a rhetorical question, "Have you ever
heard of typo–squatting?, he then informs the audience on the subject. He does this because
typo–squatting is a practice in which companies buy adds on websites that have very similar web
addresses to popular websites in other words they are betting on you not being perfect and making
typos when working online. This allows him to transition into the main topics of the speech which

terrorism describing it as the middle–ages wars whose target was the Middle East and Muslims:
"This crusade, this war on terrorism is going to take a while". Besides being against Muslims these
wars were also perceived as holy. However, Bush seems to be more self–conscious about such

Powerpoint: Speech Analysis
I spent a week preparing my speech from making a PowerPoint to deciding what I was going to say
in front of the class. What I might have done is change the hook to a more common question or into
the theme of Halloween just for the extra kicks into the presentation. An additional change would be

It is not completely clear, but it was straightforward and far easier than the alternative because my
time was running out. In my opinion, I leave my audiences an impression since I ended it on the
fly, I never really gave much thought on how I was going to end the speech that would connect to
the audience in a way that they would remember and hear the words for a longer period of time
after the day of the speech. My strengths were the introduction of my speech and the key points.
The transition I need to improve on, while the conclusion I need to revise on since it seems too
out of place. The delivery method does fit the mood toward the speech because the presentation is
based on informative speech that making Topical delivery the top choice since it divides main
points to sub points to more details. The presentation aid was utilized as effective as possible with
the time given and my creativity at the time; however, if I were to remember my speech more
thoroughly, I could have used the aid in a more presentable and artistic way. I would have to work
on my vocal execution; however, I am sick, so changing my tone in the presentation was a

Speech Reflection Essay
During speech class this semester, I gave several different types of speeches on several different
topics. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved quite
a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but now that
speech is almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during
the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was
most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not have to prepare an
outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this semester, I learned
a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use
my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed better
during my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I
think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what
career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something.
The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one
situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the rest of high school and through
my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to present a project I will know how to
effectively communicate my message to my audience.
Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved over
the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and using
to many "filler" words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more controllable and
I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I'm still not quite at the level I want
to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just speaking in front of people
more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking skills and grow in my ability to

Outline To Write A Speech Analysis
My speech seemed to be going well in my opinion until I saw the five–minute mark and I was only
half way through my second point. I still had my entire third point and the conclusion. When I
reached the six–minute mark, I was finishing up my second point. I am surprised Mr. Stauffer let me
finish the speech. I ended the speech at eight minutes and twenty–four seconds, the time keeper kept
the stop–watch going to see what I would end at. The only thing I did to prepare was make my

Just going with it seemed to allow for too much variation with what I actually wanted to say. I
was able to go off on the little things about my friends and that ate up almost four minutes by
itself. I feel that if I had kept some note cards I would have not gotten off track with stories about
my friends. I would have been able to finish my speech in time. I felt that my nervous traits did
not really show while I was giving my speech other than I just said random things when I was not
sure what to do like when my picture ripped. Next time I will have to write out note cards to
prevent myself from possibly "de–railing" my speech. Maybe if I were to actually prepare for my
speech, who knows what could actually be improved in my speech. I do not feel uncomfortable
talking about myself, but I simply do not like to. Some people will consider that as being

Out of class speech Critique The speech that I attended and will be writing about is a campaign
speech that Devaughn Williams gave while running for president of Phi Delta Theta Ohio Gamma
chapter here at Ohio University. The audience was consisted of initiated members of Phi Delta Theta
around 40 members were in attendance for the speech, for the elections, this was a formal event that

Presentation Strengths
My organization, voice, and passion were all strong points of my presentation. This allowed me to
effectively engage my audience and convey my content in an efficient and logical way.
Organization
Tim Koegel, author of The Exceptional Presenter, explains that there are two essential facets of
organizing a presentation: developing a structure that allows you to frame your objective and cover

Even if a presenter is the leading authority on a topic, being unprepared can signal the opposite to
the audience and cause them to disengage before the presentation even starts (Koegel, 45). I arrived
to the venue early, made sure my presentation was easily accessible, and checked to see if my slides
worked correctly on the computer. This allowed me to efficiently and confidently lead off my
presentation and ensure that I could capture the audience's attention.
Voice
The voice is a valuable tool to becoming an exceptional presenter (Koegel, 84). I used my voice as an
effective asset throughout my presentation. My volume was at an effective level throughout the
presentation and sounded confident. I also employed inflection in my voice on key points to
maintain audience attention. According to studies, eighty–four percent of the impact you have
comes from your voice, not your words. I was very careful to avoid monotone voice, which
significantly shortens the attention span of an audience (Koegel, 84). I also took great care to
eliminate any "verbal graffiti" as Koegel refers to it. Verbal graffiti is any non–essential "filler"
words that distract the audience and dilute your impact (Koegel, 87). I practiced my presentation
many times and was confident enough with the material that I did not fill my pauses with any filler

President Kennedy did a wonderful job on presenting his first Inaugural Address. I would not
change anything he did but I am able to take away. He did not change the style of his voice, and
when he made a statement you knew because the way he presented. He was a talented speaker,
and I have learned not to be afraid to speak about what I believe in no matter who the audience. I
have learned to make sure the topic fits your audience because to keep from not becoming
entertained by your speech. I have also learned speak slowly and clearly so everyone will be able
to understand you. Overall when listening and looking a presidential speech you have high
exceptions from that president speaking. I was very amazed at President Kennedy pointing out
issues like racism, and religion among the entire world. He believed in equality and freedom and

Persuasive Speech Analysis
When choosing my speech topic, I thought about many different topics. I considered doing mine
on abortion, more funding for Alzheimer's research, and many others. I finally decided on doing
my speech on Star Wars. I narrowed my ideas down to this one for many reasons. While I do feel
strongly about making abortion illegal, I did not want to talk about this in front of the class. I know
that there are varying opinions on abortion, and I wouldn't have been able to give my speech without
offending someone. I decided on Star Wars because many people either love it or are indifferent
towards it, and I knew I wouldn't offend anyone by giving my speech on this topic.
I utilized a few different ways to prepare for my speech. One way that I used which I did not use
last time was the tool Screencastify. I recorded myself as I did with my last speech, but this time I
actually listened to the recordings while practicing my speech. I believe that this was a bad idea.
I should have just listened to it without trying to say my speech at the same time. This messed me
up because I would get out of rhythm and I would have to stop and start over. This wasted a lot of
time and caused me to stress more about my speech delivery. I also tried to use my notecards
more this time while I was practicing my speech. I believe this helped to better the body of my
speech. I wrote better cues on the notecards and this allowed me to use them when I forgot a certain
part. While this really helped to better the body of my speech, it clearly caused my introduction and
especially my conclusion to suffer greatly. While the introduction managed to go well, the conclusion
was a horrendous mess. I practiced the body so much with the notecards, that it caused me to
neglect my conclusion. I had done it well a couple of times, so I decided to focus mostly on my
body. This caused my whole speech to suffer because I could not remember the transition that I
had practiced when going from my body to my conclusion. When practicing this speech, I once
again focused too much on one aspect of the speech, which caused the other parts of my speech to
suffer. However, before giving my speech in front of the class, I felt confident in what I was going

J.K. Rowling's 2008 Harvard Commencement Speech J.K. Rowling, famous for writing the Harry
Potter series, presented her commencement speech to Harvard on June of 2008. She had people from
graduates to non–graduates gather before her. She gave an inspiring speech on the "importance of
imagination" and "benefits of failure" (Rowling). She describes her main points effectively to the
audience by using strategies such as ethos, logos, and pathos as well as tone. In Rowling's

creates a bond to the audience reminding them that she has been in their place and remembers what

nerves of going into the real world. She shows them that even she has felt the same feelings.

Communication is very crucial in life, especially in education. Whether it be delivering a message or
receiving information, without the ability to communicate learning can be extremely difficult.
Students with speech and language disorders may have "trouble producing speech sounds, using

Each of these problems can create major setbacks in the classroom. Articulation, expression and

in speech and language only escalate their stress. Due to the progress made in technology though,
several of these children can adapt to their educational environments smoothly and without concern.
Assistive Technology for Speech and Language Disorders
Speech and language disorders, as with any learning disability, can cause embarrassment and social
hindrance for students along with the educational setbacks. Unfortunately there is yet to be a cure
discovered, but luckily there are many ways in which individuals with learning disabilities can seek
treatment and aide. For example a child could receive therapy from a speech pathologist to help
them articulate more clearly. There is also assistive technology available for all types of disorders.
Assistive technology can help motivate students to overcome the barriers in learning that they face
by compensating in the area that they lack. When choosing which type of device that a student
should use, it is very important that it is one that will accommodate to the specific disability of the
student (Fleming, 1999). For individuals with speech and language disorders, either an electronic

Final Speech: Speech Analysis Throughout the public speaking course, I 've learned a variety of methods and strategies that have strengthened the effectiveness of my last speech or any speech, that may occur in the near distant future. It was important to understand the elements that were effective and ineffective to avoid making the same mistakes and to have a clear understanding where I may have fallen short in the past and could improve in the future of public speaking. When constructing the persuasive speech, it was important to use the rhetorical methods such as the a few of the 5 canons of Rhetoric as well as a few communication strategies, these tips have definitely improved my persuasive speech effectiveness. In addition to class lectures as well as following along with the textbook I had collected tons of detailed information about the 5 canons of rhetoric, such as each canon is an individual category with a list of methods that could help improve any speech when the methods are used correctly. The first category, Invention I had used notes from class that suggested that my topic of my speeches should always be something that mattered to me as well as matter to my audience.   • 2. My Self-Evaluation Of Speech This paper will discuss mine self–evaluation and do into detail about my first speech. My first speech takes place in front of my class and I have to tell a story of an experience that has happened to me. Telling a speech was a new experience for me and I embrace the challenge. I saw myself move around more than I did in previous speeches, even though it was minimal. My voice was the least shaky throughout the introduction as it was my most memorized part of my speech.
