Speech Reflection Essay
During speech class this semester, I gave several different types of speeches on several different
topics. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved quite
a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but now that
speech is almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during
the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was
most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not have to prepare an
outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this semester, I learned
a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use
my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed better
during my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I
think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what
career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something.
The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one
situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the rest of high school and through
my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to present a project I will know how to
effectively communicate my message to my audience.
Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved over
the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and using
to many "filler" words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more controllable and
I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I'm still not quite at the level I want
to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just speaking in front of people
more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking skills and grow in my ability to
effectively communicate with others. Throughout the semester I learned a lot about speaking,
performing, and

Public Speech1. To give a good speech you must adapt your speech to your audience. There are
two steps in the adaptaion process. First, there is preparation before the speech. This is done may
times by having your audience fill out an audience analysis form, this will give you the
demographics on your audience and allow you to adapt your speech accordingly. The second part
of adapting your speech is during the speech. This is done by paying attention to your audience
while you are giving the speech. You must adapt your speech so that the audience is able to
understand and are convinced by our speech. Also, you need to assess how you think the audience
will respond to what you are saying. 2. There are several ways to gauge...show more content...
First you should fall back on all the information you already know. The library and the internet
would both be very helpful in researching the topic. In the library one could use encyclopedias, as
well as books on the topic of world hunger. It is possible to use periodicals and magazine articles
from the library too. The web would also be a good source of information. You could use various
search engines to find sites on world hunger, but you must be careful that the sites you visit are
viable. An alternative is going to an already established site, such as CNN, and then search those
sites for an article about the topic. 4. When using statistics in your speech you should always
make sure that you information is accurate. You should also make sure not to use too many
statistics, or your work will get too bogged down with numbers. You should also make sure that
the statistics you gather are representative of the total number of people in the group. You should
always identify the sources of your statistics, to prove to your audience that your information is
accurate. It is also a good idea to explain your statistics and why they are important to you specific
purpose. Also, if statistics are complicated and go to the second or third decimal position you should
round them off to the first whole number, so that it will make your information easier to understand.
5. There are five basic patterns of organizing the main points in your speech.

Essay about Free Speech
In order to find truth to anything, one must make multiple suggestions, ask many questions, and
sometimes ponder the unspeakable. Without doing so, there would be no process of elimination;
therefore, truth would be virtually unattainable. Now, in our attempts to either find truth, express
our beliefs and opinions, or generally use the rights we are given constitutionally, we are often
being criticized and even reprimanded. Our freedom to voice our opinion(s) is being challenged, as
critics of free speech are taking offense to what seems like anything and everything merely
controversial and arguably prejudice. As people continue to strive for a nation free of prejudice and
discrimination, where everyone is equal, safe and...show more content...
More and more people are finding plenty of (what they consider) bias and prejudice to be offended
by.
The bigger issue regarding our right to free speech has to do with censorship and what may
potentially become of it. If we continue to strive for a society where we can say whatever we
would like, just as long as it doesn't offend anyone, we are losing our rights altogether. Rauch
quotes Salman Rushdie in his defense to allegedly offending millions of people, where he asked:
"What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist"(6). Simply
stated, it is nearly impossible to say anything that wouldn't offend someone; Everyone has their own
perception of what they consider offensive. Being asked to refrain from using offensive language
basically disables you from speaking of anything controversial and therefore we are forced to be
idle–minded automatons. Our search for truth and reasoning will be forced to halt as we will no
longer be allowed to wonder out loud. If the intellectuals, geniuses, and scientists of our past hadn't
been free to ponder the unreasonable, one could assume we wouldn't be where we are today. For no
reason should we be forced to silence our thoughts or not speak of anything unacceptable; the result
could be far more disastrous than offending people.
Naturally, people can only hope for peace and happiness, but attempting to achieve it through
censoring any

Speech Preparation Essay
Speech Preparation Reflection Alicia Ramos COM/110 April 25, 2016 Linda Price Speech
Preparation Reflection The best way to prepare for a presentation, one must consider the best
method, the type of presentation and the audience for a given topic. There are four different types of
presentation methods they are; Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, Using a Manuscript, and
Memorization. Each of the four methods is appropriate in certain situations. Impromptu is a speech
that frequently involves no preparation time and forces you to think on your feet. With no
opportunity to prepare, you must rely on what you know. Extemporaneous is a speech that involves
preparation and practice. This form of delivery has many advantages....show more content...
An explanatory speech might give a description of the state of a given topic. The speaker might use
visual representation of the particular data or statistics. A demonstration speech explains how to do
something. Visualization is the key, on how–to speeches using visual examples that show the
audience how to move from step to step through a particular activity. Audience analysis is a task
that is often performed by technical writers in a project's early stages. It consists of assessing the
audience to make sure the information provided to them is at the appropriate level. Understanding
our audience is one of the most important elements of effective communication. Considering your
audience when creating a presentation can help you tailor your content to give them specifically
what they want, need, and expect. By doing this you are able to deliver a presentation that
engages, informs and persuades. One of the most important parts of your speech is to involve your
audience. We should view our audience as collaborators. Keeping your audience in mind while you
write can help you make good decisions about what material to include, how to organize your ideas,
and how best to support your argument. Speech preparation is the most important element to a
successful presentation, and also the best way to reduce nervousness and combat fear. Some of the
steps I follow are choosing a topic,

Reflection Of Writing A Speech
A speech is the most public form of communication possible. A speaker presents themselves to a
group a people to express their thought on a subject. For some, writing a speech can be a difficult
process because of all the different things to consider in a speech. There's the exigence,
constraints, and audience that must structure the content of what a person has to say. In my
speech, I generally discuss the essence of hard work and dedication towards becoming a critical
thinker and not being afraid to be a leader. The serious and motivational tone of my speech is
emphasizing that that a person must worked hard in order to pass the course. The classmates,
professors, parents and additionally anyone who wants to do well in the course are also firstly
addressed in this in the speech as a sense of gratitude for contributing to the speaker's success.
This allows my speech to share the same attitude as Michelle Obama's commencement speech at
MLK magnet school and uses some of the same strategies discussed in Bitzer's article on
rhetorical analysis. In Michelle Obama's speech, she addresses the importance of hard work and
going the extra mile for a point on a test or paper. She cited from her own experience that she
would beg the teacher for an extra credit assignment and would stay up all night working on a
paper to make sure it was perfect and met the teacher's expectations. During that speech she urged
the graduating class to have that same determination and effort into every class assignment,
homework, and paper due in college. This use of pathos is meant to emphasize the point that
college is puts a lot of the responsibility and it's up to them to pave their road to success. In my
paper I used that same call to action with Forrest Gump as an example. At first it might just be
seen as a comic relief to add Forrest Gump into the story but as it continues, the audience starts to
understand the metaphor behind Gump and realized that he achieved a lot of great things against
the odds. In a way, Forrest Gump could be used as both a symbol humor in the face of adversity
and courage itself. Obama also mentioned how important it was to form a community once you start
college since it is a bigger and more

Speech Reflection
The midpoint of the semester arrived in parallel to the time we presented our informative speeches. I
have learned a lot of information about improving my communication skills since the first day of
class. So, with that being said there was many things about this that speech that I think I improved
on since the first speech. On the other hand, we were only halfway through the semester when I
presented this speech so there are still many things I hope to improve on. Reflecting on these two
facets will hopefully contribute to the advancement of my public speaking skills.
There were many aspects of my speech I feel I have improved on or just did well on overall. For one,
my eye contact. In my first speech my eye contact was ok consistency–wise. However, it did not
extend to the whole audience range. While presenting my informative speech I remembered this
struggle from my introduction speech. With this in mind I actively reminded myself to scan the
whole class room, not just the middle. As for the eye contact consistency for this speech I also
felt I did a decent job. I would say my eye contact to looking at notes ratio was at least an 8:2. I
owe this to practicing. If I had not have practiced I would have needed to look at my notes a lot
more. Hopefully I can eventually get this ration up to the perfect 9:1 I was aiming for. Bearing this
in mind, I hope I will utilize this insight and remember to practice for my upcoming speeches.
Another detail I think I did good on was

Topic: Organ Donation
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to donate their organs and tissues when they die and to
act upon their decision to donate.
Thesis Statement: The need is constantly growing for organ donors and it is very simple to be an
organ donor when you die.
I. INTRODUCTION
A. Attention material/Credibility Material: How do you feel when you have to wait for something
you really, really want? What if it was something you couldn't live without? Well, my cousin was
five years old when he found out he needed a new kidney. He went on the organ waiting list right
away. He was called twice during a six month span that they had a kidney available only to...show

2) The reason is that there are only on the average 6,000 donors nationally per year (Life Source:
Statistics).
c. You can choose to donate any needed organs or you can specify which organs or tissues you wish
to donate.
2. Organ donation is very important.
a. The following poem by Robert Test entitled, "To Remember Me," shows the importance of organ
donation.
"Give my sight to the man who has never seen a sunrise, a baby's face or love in the eyes of a
woman. Give my heart to a person whose heart has caused nothing but endless days of pain... Take
my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child
walk...Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at
the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window
b. Not only is this a problem nationally but also it is a big problem right here at home in Colorado.
1) Nationally, there are over 120,000 people waiting as of November 1, 2011. As of November 7,
2011, there are 1,142 people from Colorado that are on the organ waiting list (Life Source: Statistics).
2) The sad part is that there have only been 137 donors in Colorado so far from January 2011
through November 2011 (Life Source: Newsnotes).
[Transition: I'm sure that you can see the need for people like you to donate your organs. But you
might be asking, well, how can I make sure my organs are donated after I die? Let me tell you.]

Massage Speech Format Essay
Introduction: How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Not very many? Have you ever
thought about why that might be? Your muscles might have been sore or just not been relaxed
enough, or maybe there’s a lot of tension in your life right now. Whatever the reason,
think twice next time before allowing yourself to get less rest than you really need. A short massage
can help you’re rest and relaxation reach it’s most high.
Proposition: Getting a massage regularly has numerous benefits for all people.
I. Although the sports massage is the most well–known kind of massage, there are several others that
can produce different physical, mental, and emotional results.

A. The first thing you might notice when getting a massage is the relaxation you feel in your
muscles. Massage is known for relieving muscle tension, soreness, and stiffness. Because of this,
massage also improves sleep, increases feelings of well–being, improves energy flow, enhances
tissue elasticity and overall flexibility, improves athletic performance, promotes deeper, easier
breathing, reduces muscle spasms, increases ease of movement, promotes well nourished, healthy
skin, and strengthens the immune system.
B. Massage can provide wonderful relief for all people, especially athletes, from repetitive stress
injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome, improve blood circulation, reduce swelling and soreness
from exercise, and improve energy and alertness, according to Mark Young.
C. Now, I know at least some of you have had points in your life where you were so stressed out
that you could have just screamed if you hadn’t kept yourself from doing so.
It’s because of these kinds of emotions that many people get massages. They feel the
need to relax and forget they’re stresses for a while. After getting a massage, a person
may experience a relaxed state of alertness, reduced mental stress, and calmness. Emotional benefits
are also encountered during massage. On an emotional level,

My Best Speech Essay
Good morning fellow Toastmasters and guests. I am Hari. This speech should have happened long
back, but somehow things didn't materialize and finally I am here now, delivering my first prepared
speech and it feels great to 'break the ice' п Љ.
When I decided to give my first speech, a lot of things went inside my mind. I kept thinking on how
to present it. Shall I present it the non–linear way, as shown in films such as 'Curious case of
Benjamin Button' or the simple linear narration? Finally, I decided not to go overboard. The same
tried and tested template will work for the first speech.
A bit of intro...
I was born and brought up in Chennai. Completed my schooling in T.I. Matriculation School, part
of AMM foundation. Just as everyone, I relished my school days. After completing my schooling,
just as a typical Indian male, I chose to study Engineering. Engineer from St.Joseph's college of
Engineering. My college is one among the few colleges, which is well known for food and sports
more than academics. I had my own share of fun in such an austere college, by helping one of my
friends for love. How? My friend asked me to pass on his mobile to her and I am not good at such
things. I clearly invited the attention of the 'In charge', and he not just confiscated my friend's
mobile, but made us stand near the college gate for days together. Guess what? Romance continued
even beneath such torrid weather.
Both my parents are working and for a brief stint, we happen to live in

Reflection Speech
Initially, when I first registered to enroll for this online Speech class, I did not know what to
expect. I thought that we would only meet in order to present the required speeches and then I
thought that we would have a virtual classroom to give speeches were we were all online at once.
Now I know that both of my guesses were wrong. For our speeches, we either record them online
and invite classmates as audience members to watch, or have a live audience of family and/or
friends that record you giving your speech in your living room or somewhere similar. When I found
out that these were the ways I would be giving my speeches, I was so surprised. When I am
speaking in front of a live audience in a classroom, I get so nervous, so I thought that this method of
giving presentations might be less anxious for me.
The first speech was the Most Embarrassing Moment speech. I honestly was still so nervous to
record this even though I would just be looking at my computer screen. It felt kind of weird,
almost as if I was video chatting with myself. After I memorized my speech and sent in my
recording, I immediately assumed that I failed because the professor would think that I was too
close to the screen or I was too loud or I moved my head around a lot. Then I ended up getting an
A on it. Everything I thought that I did wrong was either irrelevant or did not distract from my
presentation as a whole. Since I only missed one point, I can say that what I did well was all the

  • 1. Speech Reflection Essay During speech class this semester, I gave several different types of speeches on several different topics. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved quite a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but now that speech is almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was most likely the impromptu speech. During this semester, I learned a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed better during my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something. The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the rest of high school and through my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to present a project I will know how to effectively communicate my message to my audience. Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and using to many "filler" words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more controllable and I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I'm still not quite at the level I want to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just speaking in front of people more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking skills and grow in my ability to effectively communicate with others. Throughout the semester I learned a lot about speaking, performing, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

You could use various search engines to find sites on world hunger, but you must be careful that the sites you visit are viable. An alternative is going to an already established site, such as CNN, and then search those sites for an article about the topic. 4. When using statistics in your speech you should always make sure that you information is accurate. You should also make sure not to use too many statistics, or your work will get too bogged down with numbers. You should also make sure that the statistics you gather are representative of the total number of people in the group. You should always identify the sources of your statistics, to prove to your audience that your information is accurate. It is also a good idea to explain your statistics and why they are important to you specific purpose. Also, if statistics are complicated and go to the second or third decimal position you should round them off to the first whole number, so that it will make your information easier to understand. 5. There are five basic patterns of organizing the main points in your speech. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay about Free Speech In order to find truth to anything, one must make multiple suggestions, ask many questions, and sometimes ponder the unspeakable. Without doing so, there would be no process of elimination; therefore, truth would be virtually unattainable. Now, in our attempts to either find truth, express our beliefs and opinions, or generally use the rights we are given constitutionally, we are often being criticized and even reprimanded. Our freedom to voice our opinion(s) is being challenged, as critics of free speech are taking offense to what seems like anything and everything merely controversial and arguably prejudice. As people continue to strive for a nation free of prejudice and discrimination, where everyone is equal, safe and...show more content... More and more people are finding plenty of (what they consider) bias and prejudice to be offended by. The bigger issue regarding our right to free speech has to do with censorship and what may potentially become of it. If we continue to strive for a society where we can say whatever we would like, just as long as it doesn't offend anyone, we are losing our rights altogether. Rauch quotes Salman Rushdie in his defense to allegedly offending millions of people, where he asked: "What is freedom of expression? Without the freedom to offend, it ceases to exist"(6). Simply stated, it is nearly impossible to say anything that wouldn't offend someone; Everyone has their own perception of what they consider offensive. Being asked to refrain from using offensive language basically disables you from speaking of anything controversial and therefore we are forced to be idle–minded automatons. Our search for truth and reasoning will be forced to halt as we will no longer be allowed to wonder out loud. If the intellectuals, geniuses, and scientists of our past hadn't been free to ponder the unreasonable, one could assume we wouldn't be where we are today. For no reason should we be forced to silence our thoughts or not speak of anything unacceptable; the result could be far more disastrous than offending people. Naturally, people can only hope for peace and happiness, but attempting to achieve it through censoring any Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Speech Preparation Essay Speech Preparation Reflection Alicia Ramos COM/110 April 25, 2016 Linda Price Speech Preparation Reflection The best way to prepare for a presentation, one must consider the best method, the type of presentation and the audience for a given topic. There are four different types of presentation methods they are; Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, Using a Manuscript, and Memorization. Each of the four methods is appropriate in certain situations. Impromptu is a speech that frequently involves no preparation time and forces you to think on your feet. It consists of assessing the audience to make sure the information provided to them is at the appropriate level. Understanding our audience is one of the most important elements of effective communication. Considering your audience when creating a presentation can help you tailor your content to give them specifically what they want, need, and expect. By doing this you are able to deliver a presentation that engages, informs and persuades. One of the most important parts of your speech is to involve your audience. • 5. Reflection Of Writing A Speech A speech is the most public form of communication possible. A speaker presents themselves to a group a people to express their thought on a subject. For some, writing a speech can be a difficult process because of all the different things to consider in a speech. There's the exigence, constraints, and audience that must structure the content of what a person has to say. In my speech, I generally discuss the essence of hard work and dedication towards becoming a critical thinker and not being afraid to be a leader. The serious and motivational tone of my speech is emphasizing that that a person must worked hard in order to pass the course. The classmates, professors, parents and additionally anyone who wants to do well in the course are also firstly addressed in this in the speech as a sense of gratitude for contributing to the speaker's success. This allows my speech to share the same attitude as Michelle Obama's commencement speech at MLK magnet school and uses some of the same strategies discussed in Bitzer's article on rhetorical analysis. In Michelle Obama's speech, she addresses the importance of hard work and going the extra mile for a point on a test or paper. She cited from her own experience that she would beg the teacher for an extra credit assignment and would stay up all night working on a paper to make sure it was perfect and met the teacher's expectations. During that speech she urged the graduating class to have that same determination and effort into every class assignment, homework, and paper due in college. This use of pathos is meant to emphasize the point that college is puts a lot of the responsibility and it's up to them to pave their road to success. In my paper I used that same call to action with Forrest Gump as an example. At first it might just be seen as a comic relief to add Forrest Gump into the story but as it continues, the audience starts to understand the metaphor behind Gump and realized that he achieved a lot of great things against the odds. In a way, Forrest Gump could be used as both a symbol humor in the face of adversity and courage itself. Obama also mentioned how important it was to form a community once you start college since it is a bigger and more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Speech Reflection The midpoint of the semester arrived in parallel to the time we presented our informative speeches. I have learned a lot of information about improving my communication skills since the first day of class. So, with that being said there was many things about this that speech that I think I improved on since the first speech. On the other hand, we were only halfway through the semester when I presented this speech so there are still many things I hope to improve on. Reflecting on these two facets will hopefully contribute to the advancement of my public speaking skills. There were many aspects of my speech I feel I have improved on or just did well on overall. For one, my eye contact. In my first speech my eye contact was ok consistency–wise. However, it did not extend to the whole audience range. While presenting my informative speech I remembered this struggle from my introduction speech. With this in mind I actively reminded myself to scan the whole class room, not just the middle. As for the eye contact consistency for this speech I also felt I did a decent job. I would say my eye contact to looking at notes ratio was at least an 8:2. I owe this to practicing. If I had not have practiced I would have needed to look at my notes a lot more. Hopefully I can eventually get this ration up to the perfect 9:1 I was aiming for. Bearing this in mind, I hope I will utilize this insight and remember to practice for my upcoming speeches. Another detail I think I did good on was Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The following poem by Robert Test entitled, "To Remember Me," shows the importance of organ donation. Take my bones, every muscle, every fiber and nerve in my body and find a way to make a crippled child walk...Take my cells, if necessary, and let them grow so that, someday, a speechless boy will shout at the crack of a bat and a deaf girl will hear the sound of rain against her window b. • 9. My Best Speech Essay Good morning fellow Toastmasters and guests. I am Hari. This speech should have happened long back, but somehow things didn't materialize and finally I am here now, delivering my first prepared speech and it feels great to 'break the ice' п Љ. When I decided to give my first speech, a lot of things went inside my mind. I kept thinking on how to present it. Shall I present it the non–linear way, as shown in films such as 'Curious case of Benjamin Button' or the simple linear narration? Finally, I decided not to go overboard. The same tried and tested template will work for the first speech. A bit of intro... I was born and brought up in Chennai. Completed my schooling in T.I. Matriculation School, part of AMM foundation. Just as everyone, I relished my school days. After completing my schooling, just as a typical Indian male, I chose to study Engineering. Engineer from St.Joseph's college of Engineering. My college is one among the few colleges, which is well known for food and sports more than academics. I had my own share of fun in such an austere college, by helping one of my friends for love. How? My friend asked me to pass on his mobile to her and I am not good at such things. I clearly invited the attention of the 'In charge', and he not just confiscated my friend's mobile, but made us stand near the college gate for days together. Guess what? Romance continued even beneath such torrid weather. Both my parents are working and for a brief stint, we happen to live in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Reflection Speech Initially, when I first registered to enroll for this online Speech class, I did not know what to expect. I thought that we would only meet in order to present the required speeches and then I thought that we would have a virtual classroom to give speeches were we were all online at once. Now I know that both of my guesses were wrong. For our speeches, we either record them online and invite classmates as audience members to watch, or have a live audience of family and/or friends that record you giving your speech in your living room or somewhere similar. When I found out that these were the ways I would be giving my speeches, I was so surprised. When I am speaking in front of a live audience in a classroom, I get so nervous, so I thought that this method of giving presentations might be less anxious for me. The first speech was the Most Embarrassing Moment speech. I honestly was still so nervous to record this even though I would just be looking at my computer screen. It felt kind of weird, almost as if I was video chatting with myself. After I memorized my speech and sent in my recording, I immediately assumed that I failed because the professor would think that I was too close to the screen or I was too loud or I moved my head around a lot. Then I ended up getting an A on it. Everything I thought that I did wrong was either irrelevant or did not distract from my presentation as a whole. Since I only missed one point, I can say that what I did well was all the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
