Olmec And The Aztecs
Mexico had two civilisations, the Olmecs and the Aztecs. Olmecs were the first Mexican
civilisation, and there were mostly populated around Tres Zapotes, San Lorenzo, and
Laventa.Olmecs were well known with their giant bus basaltic sculptures of heads and some are
more than 3 m long. As they also had their smart brains so they innovated the writing and they also
made a calendar System.
Olmec had influenced people by trending: working with stones, observation of the stars and the
worship of certain gods, those gods were adopted by them Mayas who controlled a pretty large area
which influences most of Southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, also plots of Honduras and El
Salvador.

Characteristics Of Hernan Cortes
During the 1500s Hernan Cortes traveled to the Aztec civilizations of Mesoamerica, and more in
particular, Tenochtitlan with the mindset to take on the land of the natives. When he got there, he
was uneasy with what he saw, which is evident in the letters that Cortes wrote to Charles V. "It
happened...that a Spaniard saw an Indian...eating a piece of flesh taken from the body of an Indian
who had been killed (Cortes)." Cortes viewed the Aztecs living in Tenochtitlan as completely
barbaric because they practiced human sacrifice, which was cannibalism and were polytheistic.
Despite Cortes describing the people of Tenochtitlan as "barbarous", he was able to find positive
qualities in them because he saw their knowledge, technological advances, and independence.
One way that the Aztecs showed their knowledge was through the design of Tenochtitlan. The
people of Tenochtitlan built the city on an island, surrounding a lake. Cortes applauded the Aztecs
for this aspect. "This great city of Tenochtitlan is built on the salt lake...it has four approaches by
means of artificial causeways... (Cortes)" This was a smart move for the Aztecs since they had an
endless supply of water. "Built on an island on Lake Texcoco, it had a system of canals and
causeways that supplied the hundreds of thousands of people who lived there (Jarus)."
Additionally, Cortes admired the new technological advances that the Aztecs invented. Since
Tenochtitlan was built overtop of a lake, people of the civilization had to adapt to having a lack of
farmland. They created an innovative way to create farmland, called chinampas. "The Aztecs made
giant reed mats and placed them on top of the water. They made a fence around the mat and placed
mud, fertilizer, and rotten vegetables on it. Then trees were planted on all sides of the chinampa. The
trees grew very quickly and their roots held the soil to keep it from flowing away. The Aztecs
planted corn, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and squash. The plants' roots would grow to the bottom of
the lake so they would have an endless supply of water (Tenochtitlan)." Doing this gave
Tenochtitlan a great amount of food, without having to sacrifice their supply of water or land.
Lastly, Cortes found that the

Essay On The Aztecs
In 1519, the Aztecs were the most powerful kingdom in Mesoamerica. At the peak of their reign,
their territory stretched as far as 80,000 square miles over southern Mexico, and had as many as
fifteen million people.
The Aztecs emerged in the thirteenth century, as a nomadic tribe. They were guided by their chief
god, Huitzilopochtli, the war god and representative of the sun. The Aztecs couldn 't find a place to
settle in the crowded central Mexico. Eventually, they were taken as serfs and mercenaries by the
Colhuacan. Their population increased as they married the women that belonged to their neighbors.
Eventually, the lowly Aztecs received a Toltec princess for their chief In 1323, the Aztecs sacrificed
the princess with the belief that she would become a war goddess. The Colhuacan were horrified,
and expelled the Aztecs from their territory.
The Aztecs, no longer a hungry band of nomads, but a group of wise people after serving the
Colhuacan, set out to find a new territory once again. They traveled southwest to the borders of the
lakes that once surrounded Mexico City. There, they found two unoccupied, marshy islands that they
quickly took and claimed as their own. They believed they were chosen by the gods and foretold
that they would find a mighty city at a place where they would see an eagle perched on a cactus
devouring a snake. Eventually, on a deserted island, they saw the majestic sight. Around 1345, under
the rule of the ChiefTenoch, they had

What Does Aztec Culture Mean For Mexican People?
What does Aztec culture mean for Mexican people? The Aztec culture was the beginning of the
Mexican culture along with other Indian territories in Mexico. The Aztecs were known because they
ruled and most of the southern part of Mexico for a long period of time, but like everyone knows
everything has to come to an end. Even though Aztec society is gone, their society levels, religion,
and architecture can still be seen and analyzed today. The Aztecs were Mesoamerican people from
the early centuries in the Americas. The home of the Aztecs was in the Valley of Mexico, they
named it Tenochtitlan an island in Lake Texcoco. Before they got to Tenochtitlan, the Aztecs were
from Aztlan led by chief man Tenoch. It was believed that "they were hated and rejected by all the
surrounding inhabitants of the valley because they were uncivilized" (Aztec Culture). It was also
believed that the chief Tenoch got a message from their God that said to lead his people to a place
surrounded by Lake Texcoco and, where they saw an eagle eating a snake on a cactus that was their
place for them to grow. During the next couple of years, the Aztec empire began growing into the
greatest and most powerful tribe in Mexico. The Emperor who led them after Tenoch was
Moctezuma II and it has also who led them to their downfall when the Spanish got to Tenochtitlan.
Their society was based on infrastructure because the nobility was the highest, then there were the
commoners and lastly the slaves. The

Aztec Civilization Essay
The Aztec Indians created a great civilization in Central Mexico, reaching its peak in the
1500’s. Being late arrivals to the area, and because of their strong neighboring nations,
they were forced to live in the swampy western areas of the Lake Texcoco. Because of the swampy
surroundings, the Aztecs used mud to create miniature islands in the swamps. These islands are
called chinampas, or “floating gardens,'; and were used as farming lands. On these
fertile islands they grew corn, squash, vegetables, and flowers.
Being an agriculturally dependant empire, the Aztec’s religion was based highly on the
forces of nature and worshipped them as gods. The god of war, Huitzilopochtli, was the most
important deity. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the stone is a picture of what the Aztecs thought the universe was like. The sun god is in the
middle, with the heavens surrounding it, and pictures of people made out of precious stones. The
Aztec form of writing was in pictographs, or small pictures symbolizing objects or sounds. The
Aztec numbering system used pictographs also, and was based on the number 20. For example, a
flag represented 20, a fir tree represented 20 times 20, or 400, and a pouch represented 400 times 20,
or 8000. The capitol of the Aztec Empire was Tenochtitlan, which was built where modern–day
Mexico City is. It was given the nickname “Venice of the New World,'; because it had
many canals. During the acme of the Aztec civilization, the population of this great city numbered
more than 200,000. This made it one of the most populated cities in the ancient world. The city was
connected to the mainland by 3 causeways, which, when flooded, served as protective dikes. In the
city aqueducts, which was probably the first type of indoor plumbing, brought fresh water into
homes. Many people used canoes to travel through the city. Most of the houses were made up of
mud and twisted twigs, but the nobility and priests had plastered brick or stone houses.
In 1519, Spanish explorer Hernando Cortes and more than 500 other Spaniards landed on the shores
of Mexico in search of gold. The Aztecs welcomed the Spaniards and gave them gifts, because they
thought they were gods. Cortes became greedy when he

The Fall of the Aztecs
The Aztec civilization is widely regarded as the greatest civilization of the Americas. The
Aztecs' empire covered most of modern day central Mexico and was the most powerful civilization
in the region at the time. They had developed political, religious, and social systems that were very
intricate and important to the culture as a whole. The Aztecs, at the height of their greatness, ruled
5–6 million people and over 500 city–states. However every great civilization in history, including
the Aztecs, have a rise and have a fall. The Aztec Empire fell to the Spaniard's conquest because of
the Aztec's religion, disease, Spanish weaponry, and native alliances. Although the Aztecs have an
unknown origin, by legend they are believed to have originated from the northern part of modern
day Mexico. A nomadic tribe known as the Mexica began migrating to the Valley of Mexico. These
people are what society calls Aztecs today. In A.D. 1325 the Mexica founded the great city of
Tenochtitlan (modern day Mexico City) on the island of Lake Texcoco. Tenochtitlan allied with the
cities of Texcoco and Tacuba to form an alliance against the Tepanec people who were the dominant
people of the region. This alliance was known as the Triple Alliance which was the basis of the
Aztec Empire. The Triple Alliance dominated Central Mexico up until the time of the Spanish
Conquest in 1521.

Utah Lake Speech
I am writing to you today to talk about the state of Utah Lake and how to clean it up. Utah Lake is
the only lake that is easy to access without going on an hour or longer car trip from Utah Valley.
Because of that we should try and make Utah Lake more tourist friendly and better looking. This
would bring more people there and make it a better experience to be there. In its current state Utah
Lake isn't a very attractive destination. Utah Lake got 134,000 visits in 2017 which is pretty high
compared to other parks in Utah but it isn't that much compared the more visited state parks. When
most people think of Utah they probably think of Southern Utah. You could have more tourists come
to more places in Utah other than Southern Utah by giving more natural options in Central and
Northern Utah. Utah lake is already a pretty nice place to go and fish but other than that there is not
much else to do. You could make it a nice place to go swimming which would bring a lot more
people than just fishers. The three main causes for Utah Lake not being an attractive place are its
high phosphorus levels, the lake being shallow, and the non–native carp living there. All of these
factors work together to make Utah Lake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The solution to the carp problem is easy. You can either reward people for turning in carp to
incentivise people to not put the carp back and or you could send boats onto the lake that fish
specifically carp. The phosphorus is also pretty easy. What you will need to do is stop all dumping
into the lake to stop the phosphorus from going up, and then adding or breeding more fish into the
lake to naturally get rid of the phosphorus. But with adding fish you will have to make sure that it
doesn't upset the balance. In conclusion the solutions are pretty easy to pull off so it you shouldn't
need to put too much energy into

The Water and Wastewater Crisis in Mexico City
In what was once lake Texcoco now stands the 3rd most populous city in the world. "Ciudad
de los Palacios" ("City of Palaces"), or as we know it Mexico City, is home to
more then 20 million (2003) people and serves as the governing capital of Mexico. Like many other
metropolis D.F. (as known by the Mexican people) post enormous water sanitation and distribution
problems. Ironically enough, the waters once known as lake Texcoco, in which the city lays its
foundation on causes as many problems pertaining to this matter as it solves.
Much like Seattle WA, Mexico city is sinking into the ground. Unlike Seattle this is mostly from
poor planning and over use of the cities under lying ground water, not sandy; unstable ... Show more

But how do you combat this crisis? One solution, installing low–flow toilets could cut usage by 70
percent. (CIP) New York city in the mid 90's was facing a similar water shortage. Facing a choice of
a billion dollar pumping station or low–flow toilets, NY opted for the low–flows. 1.33 million low–
flow toilets later, water consumption per day drop 70 percent over an eight–year span (91–99), with
70–90 million gallons saved a day!
A solution currently being employed is to fix leaks in the cities out dated water pipes. Anywhere
from 27–40 percent of the cities water is lost through leaks, an estimated 1100 gallons could be
saved a second if these leak were. Other ideas currently in use or suggested include: Collecting
rainfall, Desalination, and drip irrigation. My favorite, drip irrigation would not only save 30–70
percent compared with flood irrigation, but has been shown to increase crop yield 20–90 percent,
talk about killing two birds with one stone.
But really when it comes down to it the easiest and most logical way to cut the cities water demand
of 7,750 gallons per second would be to teach people water conservation methods, recycle water
more effectively, and/or just stop polluting the current sources. Still it's easier said then done without
the proper funding this will never happen. While were on the money subject let me throw just one
more fun statistic at you, some 40 percent of water users either never receive water bills or simply
refuse to pay them.

Negative Effects On Animals In Their Environment
Both countries have experienced polluted waters which have had negative effects on animals in their
environment. For example, in 2007, multiple sea otters were found dead in the Pacific Ocean and a
marine–wildlife veterinarian, Melissa Miller, determined that these otters were poisoned by a toxin
called microcystin, which is produced by blue–green algae. When fertilizers and human sewage run
into rivers and lakes, these toxins start to appear because nutrients are added that cause the growth
of algae known as "super blooms". However, sea otters don't go to the areas these blooms occur in
like polluted rivers and lakes. Miller then did some research and found that super blooms occurred
frequently in a lake, Pinto Lake, that eventually drains into the area of the Pacific Ocean where the
dead otters were found. The toxins were also found to be in shellfish which in a part of the otters'
main diet, so after this Miller concluded that the toxin travelled downstream in the ocean from
polluted lakes, where they found their way into shellfish, and eventually ended up killing the otters.
A similar event occurred in South Africa around the same time frame, but this involved crocodiles.
Toward the end of 2008, rangers in the Kruger National Park (KNP) reported that around 170
crocodiles were found dead in the Olifants river with a similar estimate a year later in 2009.
Veterinarians who performed the autopsies for these crocodiles determined the cause of death to be
pansteatitis which is a disease based on nutrients that paralyzes animals leaving them to drown or
starve to death, but it rarely affects animals in the wild. After some of the veterinarians did more
research and analyzed the crocodiles' fat tissue, they discovered that phytoplankton was the source
of the high intake of fats in these crocodiles. However, the crocodiles don't feed on it directly; so
they did more research and found that downstream of the Olifants was Lake Massingir which is
known for plankton blooms because of eutrophication. In the end, the veterinarians came to the
conclusion that the silver carp, a fish that was purposely introduced into Lake Massingir, accidently
escaped and found their way to where these crocodiles

Comparing Moctezuma And II And The Aztecs
A civilised society or country is one that has a powerful structure of culture, government and way of
life for the people who live there. This means the ability to delight all the residents fairly. A civilised
society has an exceedingly high–established society and a strong middle class of people. It is also
developed and well organised, which includes fair laws and rules about the behaviour to others. A
modern civilised society has intellectual and moral advancement focused on education, safety and a
high quality of life.
There were numerous leaders between Moctezuma I and II, and the Aztecs had 50 years of great
accomplishment with development and victory.

The Observation Of Five Years
Results and discussion The observation of five years (From January, 2007 to December, 2011) of the
biomanipulation work done in the lake Nainital for its ecosystem restoration is presented in this
paper. In this approach we attempted to manipulate various levels of the food chain, assuming that
the nutrient input is stable and cannot be reduced to limit the primary production. At the start of the
work important physico– chemical and biological parameters were measured to know the present
scenario of the lake. Among physico– chemical parameters the water temperature, transparency,
total dissolved solids, dissolved oxygen, total alkalinity, pH, nitrate and phosphate were taken into
consideration while in biotic factors, the qualitative and quantitative estimation of phytoplankton,
zooplankton and fishes was made. The water temperature varied from 10.0 0C in January, 2007 to
23.4 0C in June, 2011. The Secchy transparency ranged between 35.0 cm during January 2007 and
410 cm during December, 2011. The total dissolved solids varied between 160 mg/ l in April, 2007
and 536 mg/ l in June, 2008. The dissolved oxygen concentration at water surface varied from 3.0
mg/ l during January, 2007 to 12.5 mg/ l during May, 2009 throughout the experiment period. The
total alkalinity of lake water was found between 102 mg/ l during January, 2008 and 240 mg/ l
during June, 2011. The pH of lake water varied from 6.9 in April, 2008 to 9.8 July, 2011. The nitrate

The Dictionary States That Fracking Is A Method Used For
The dictionary states that fracking is a method used for getting oil and gas from underground rocks
by injecting liquid into the rocks so that they can break apart (Merriam–Webster). Fracking can be a
controversial topic in numerous people's eyes due to the side effects that coincide with this
procedure. Fracking has evolved over the years and made a comeback around 2010. Lately, the
United States has heard tremendous news regarding this procedure and the drawbacks from fracking
natural gases and oil. Fracking can be beneficial; sadly, the side effects greatly outweigh the
benefits. The environmental risks, pollution, and the overall risk factors prove to not worth the risk
of fracking. Fracking is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The environmental risks that accompany fracking are potentially hazardous. In order to frack,
thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the space they need to exist (Lampe
38). However, these roadways allow erosion to occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38).
Along with erosion, siltation occurs and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds
(Lampe 38). Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die. Trees
situated on the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped down to make way for
roadways. In some cases, depending on where the oil reservoir is located, the state declares eminent
domain on houses and pays the landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil
reservoirs will be fracked.
The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination. Individuals grew worried
that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources will seep into the water and contaminate the
United States. The water necessary to frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers.
This is then combined with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Fracking was exempted from the
Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and the chemicals used to frack are not tested frequently in our
water (Lampe 34). Bordering on 20 to 40 percent of the water used to frack rises back up to the
surface and is stored on site (Lampe 34). An

Women In The Mexican Revolution
Women in the Mexican Revolution
In most history books, Pancho Villa is depicted as a often cruel but always fearless and cunning
leader who courageously fought the dictatorial behavior of Porfirian Diaz in the Mexican
Revolution. And some of this is certainly true. The great majority of reports and undocumented
stories of Pancho Villa's epic struggles against injustice are all about males, but authors Anna
Macias and Elena Poniatowska record the fact that women were a big part of the Mexican
Revolution and that Villa was a viciously bloodthirsty scoundrel when it came to women and young
girls. In order to set the record straight, Macias and Poniatowska present the writings of three
women who ably report involvement of women in these moments in history; for example: a) there
were women fighting on the side of Villa and his revolutionary band of warriors; and b) "hundreds
of thousands" of women "of every class, were among the victims and casualties" of the conflict.
The Literature Women and the Mexican Revolution
The women involved with the Mexican Revolution included not just fighters and victims but also
reporters with the skill to publish truthful editorials and articles. One of the journalists that Macias
references was also a poet, Juana Gutierrez, who wrote investigative articles revealing Diaz'
brutality in her newspaper Vesper. For that she was thrown in jail several times (Macias, 1980, p.
55). But "...the horrors of the women's section of the prison of Belen in

similarities and differences in their daily lives from leadership, religious practices, and social

The Horror Of All Vacations
I, as a second grade girl, had never smelled anything so foul or seen anything so gross. I could smell
something decaying through the crisp summer breeze in Wisconsin. While going through the cabin,
I found the most disgusting items and problems around the little cabin.Seeing the horrifying sight of
blood splattered against the white bathroom walls. Cockroaches were scurrying around the wooden
floors of the kitchen. Glass fragments all over the sticky, cold, wooden kitchen floors. I knew this
was going to be the horror of all vacations.
I knew that my family had a problem as soon as we stepped out of our red Ford minivan. This place
looked like a tornado went right through it. Soon after getting out of the car, I smelled the ... Show

We got into the cabin that we would stay at for a week, and the name of the cabin was Brown Jug.
When we first walk in there were no doors, just curtains hanging from the hinges of the doorways
for doors.
My mom spoke in a sarcastic tone, " Great privacy this place has."
Walking throughout the rest of the house, I saw the small dingy bathroom with plumbing coming out
of the walls with holes everywhere and scum on the water on the shower walls. Looking at the mess
in the bathroom, I saw the walls covered in dried blood. My mom rushed everyone out of the
bathroom in a disgusted manner said, " That is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen, even more
than the hospital that I use to work at."
"No one goes into that bathroom until I wash it." my mom stated.
Soon after that issue everyone went to the tiny size living room which was about the size of a nice
size store bathroom.
Dad muttered under his breath, " I wonder what else is wrong with this dump?"
Sitting down on the uncomfortable furniture that was available for us in the cabin. When sat down
on the couch that was so uncomfortable, whenever we moved around, we heard a crumpled noise in
the cushions of the couch. We unzip the cushion and saw crumpled up pieces of newspaper inside
instead of the foam that was suppose to be there.

Descriptive Essay About Memorial Day
It was that time of the year again. Memorial Day weekend was finally here and that means one thing
in any Hesse's mind– the annual Molacek Fishing tournament! More importantly for me, I was
finally able to spend time up north in Bemidji at the lake with my entire family again. After the
grueling three–hour car ride crammed with my family of six, dog, and what seemed like enough
luggage for the entire summer, I had finally made it to my sanctuary, Beltrami Shores. The moment I
stepped out of the car my world was made of green and blue. As I was listening to the diverse chirps
of the many birds, my nostrils were bombarded by the scents of the pine trees, lake water, and fresh
north air. I have learned over the years to familiarize these smells with relaxing on the lake, eating
savory meals, spending time family, and disconnecting myself from my continuously busy life. All
of these great memories were once again relived on this particular Memorial Day weekend. As I
began fishing with my siblings and grandpa by my side, I felt a sudden surge of freedom. Fishing
has always been one of my favorite activities at my cabin because I am able to go deep into thought
and conversation while enjoying how beautiful the surrounding nature is. After a few minutes of
casting, I felt a sudden tug, pulled my rod, and started reeling in what I thought would be the biggest
catch of the day! I immediately belched "I got one!" to everyone else in the boat. Unfortunately, I
soon realized what I

Taking a Closer Look at the Aztec Civilization Essays
The Aztecs were a very warlike people, but were very influential to our civilization. They lived in
present day Mexico about 800 years ago. At first, they were a mostly nomadic civilization and that
lasted about 100 years. Then they developed the first, and capital, city, Tenochtitlán. They developed
many new types of government, religion, culture, technology, economy, and geography, as well as
the calendar and new mathematical techniques. The Aztecs were skilled writers, builders, artists, and
craftsmen. They wrote in pictures, built towering temples for worship, and made beautiful jewelry

much. They had sweet corn tortillas, vegetables, occasionally meat, and most of their food was
spicy. If you could afford it, you drank hot chocolate, but most drank water and cactus beer. Cactus
beer was called pulqué. Entertainment consisted of many games like our. They played one game
called Tlachtli, like basketball. The object was to hit a rubber ball through a stone ring, but you
could only use your hips, elbows, and knees. Another game was called Patolli, like backgammon,
they used dried beans as dice and colored stones as counters. Art was themed in the Aztec Empire.
Most art depicted insects, birds, animals, and fish. It was very lifelike and showed age and
expression. It was almost always about death, either reflecting the passion to avoid it or the desire to
conquer it. The Aztecs had many advances in technology, like weaponry, shelter, structures, and

Characteristics Of A Freshwater Lake
Figure 1. The zones of a freshwater lake (Smith and Smith 2001).
Within the lentic ecosystems, temperature plays a crucial role. Lake temperatures does not variate
drastically, but does change gradually with every season of the year. Summer, the thermic
stratification of lakes, can be studied in different layers (Figure 2). The superior level of a lake that
is terminally stratified, is known to be epilimnion, which is the warmer part of the fresh water body.
This water remains in the superior part because as the water gets warmer, the light of the sun
becomes clearer than the dense water downward. The metalimnion is the known layer that would be
ubicated beneath. This layer is defined by the thermocline where the temperature slightly decreases.
In this phase, the temperature decreases 1 °C for every single meter that descends. Hypolimnion
would be the last stratified layer in a lake. This deep and cutoff from sources of air. (Korstad 2017)
Another crucial component is the description of the characteristics of a lake is to monitor the
quantity of oxygen and carbon dioxide to various depths. There is a reciprocal relation that exists
between these two elements when they are compared to the depth of a lake (Figure 2) (Korstad
2017). A lake has the capacity top adhere oxygen by absorption or photosynthesis. The levels high
oxygen is necessary to maintain the necessary nutrients inside the water, and at the same time
providing a source food to all fishes. It is common to see

Minnesota's Glaciers
The Wisconsin Glaciation of Minnesota
A glacier is a large body of ice that moves slowly across land and are formed by there being a higher
snow gain rather than a snow melt. Glaciers move by a small amount of ice melting and the glacier
sliding. Glaciers can help and destroy the landscape in front of them but they can also shape the land
into something amazing. Glaciers were once present in Minnesota thousands of years ago and
played a massive role on the landscape we live on today, and as they melted they left behind large
amounts of water and formations. The glaciation is very confusing to those who don't know about
glaciers so here is some background information. The last glacial advance started about 75,000 years

Outwash and till are similar but different at the same time and this is why they are both deposited by
glaciers, but the way they are deposited is what makes them different. Till is simply the sediment
left by the ice, outwash is deposited by the running water coming off of the melting glacier. Because
water can sort sediment, and ice cannot, that is why the till is unsorted. Sorting just means when the
rocks are sorted by size, bigger pieces together on the bottom, smaller pieces together on top.
Glaciers are constructive and deconstructive they are deconstructive because they tear up land and
the glacier does not stop for anything but it is easy to avoid. Glaciers erode the land and create
landforms such as kames, eskers, and drumlins those terms will be explained a little bit later.
Glaciers create valleys by shearing away the mountainside and moving it away. Some of the
landforms that glaciers produce are drumlins, terminal moraine, outwash plain, and an erratic.
Drumlins are elongated, teardrop–shaped hills of rock, sand, and gravel that formed under moving
glacier ice. A terminal moraine is where the glacier reaches its max and starts receding making a
deposit of till. An outwash plain is a flat area made by meltwater carrying outwash from the leading
edge of the glacier. An erratic is a rock or boulder carried from a place where the Rock is common
to an area where the rock is not

This empire was the Aztec.
The Aztecs originated in Northern Mexico. When they came across the Valley of Mexico, they saw a
hawk perched on a cactus eating a serpent. This told the Aztecs that they would settle there. When
the Aztec arrived, there were already groups living around Lake Texcoco. Therefore, they had to

The City Of The Aztec Empire
When thinking of ancient, urban centers many think of ancient capitals such as Rome, Athens, or
Cairo. However, across the Atlantic Ocean in Central and South America, there were a number of
growing urban centers being built by the Aztec, Mayan, and Incan civilizations. An example of a
Central American urban center is Tenochtitlan. Tenochtitlan was the capital of the ancient Aztec
capital which is located in present–day Mexico–City, Mexico. The development of this ancient city
was dependent on three important factors: favorable ecology, advancing technology, and social
organization. With these three preconditions, the growth of Tenochtitlan as a major urban center and
as the capital of the Aztec's civilization was able to flourish.
Similarly to modern–day real estate, location played a detrimental role in determining whether or
not an urban center could truly develop and flourish. A location with favorable ecology allows for
resources such as agriculture to be produced near or within the city. However, agriculture is not the
only element of ecology that allows for a city to develop. Other ecological elements such as rivers,
lakes, elevation, mineral resource, and building materials are important in determining whether or
not a location has favorable ecology (28). Tenochtitlan is often compared to Europe's Venice due to
its structure and location within the Valley of Mexico. The landscape of the Valley of Mexico
consisted of multiple lakes and "resembled a water–filled

Are you aware that chinampas were given the beautiful nickname, "floating gardens", by the
Spanish (American Indian History Online)? This was due to the fact that they were basically islands
used for the soul purpose of vegetation, situated on swamps and canals. The Aztecs were very
resourceful. Most of their land was swamp and canals, so it was extremely hard to grow food let

It is truly fascinating how these islands made such a colossal difference in the civilization of the
Aztecs. Chinampas also saved the capital of the Aztec Empire, Tenochtitlan, from starving. Their
capital alone had a whopping 150,000–200,000 people (Investigating Chinampa Farming). The
thing is that the majority of them weren't even food producers (Investigating Chinampa Farming).
This was a very troubling dilemma that chinampas were the solution to. In fact, chinampas produced
an estimated one–half to two–thirds of the food consumed in Tenochtitlan (Investigating Chinampa
Farming)! That is absolutely astounding. Without chinampas, the Aztec Empire would be
scrambling for food due to their swampy location. But fortunately, they did have chinampas. In
addition, chinampas utilized a method of transport that would in turn benefit their civilization. The
Aztecs built chinampas in a specific way; parallel to each other (Aztec History). This repetitive yet
clever arrangement produced a complex system of canals (Aztec History). This allowed canoes to
through these canals. All of this was cause by the creation of chinampas.
Furthermore, this created an efficient method of delivery and travel. This way, canoes could simply
row up next to chinampa and load different crops and plants. Then, they could navigate their way

History and Origin of Fishing Pond
During the winter, supplying fresh food for a castle garrison was a constant struggle. Though meat

Hatchet Book Report The book I read is Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. It is about a thirteen–year–old
boy named Brian. This story takes place in the Canadian wilderness without a specified time. I think
this book is both interesting and helpful because of its contents.
To summarize the story, Brain was the sole passenger on the tiny Cessna 406 bush plane. He was
flying from the U.S. to Canada to spend summer break with his father after his parents divorced.
The pilot has a heart attack and the plane ends up crashing in a lake after Brain controlling it for a

He kept telling himself "There, keep it that way. Short thoughts."(44) he did that in order to organize
his thoughts and not freak out. I admire that part about him because there won't be someone always
there to help you. Sometimes you are the one who has to comfort yourself.
Brain went through so much alone in the wilderness. He had faced wild animals such as a bear, a
skunk, and foxes. He knew how to deal with them for the most part. When the foxes were near him,
he knew to keep calm, not move, and wait until they leave. When the bear entered his home, he
scared it with fire so it won't come back. The skunk had attacked him without a warning but Brian
knew how to deal with the aftermath. He ran to the lake, took off his clothes, and jumped in. If it
wasn't for this story, I wouldn't have know how to act when there is a dangerous animal in me, how
to build a home, or catch fish and food.
His first attempt to get food was search for fruit. He walked around keeping the lake in his sight so
he won 't get lost. That was a smart move because I would have wandered around forgetting about
the lake. He wanted to stay by the lake not only for the water but because when people come to
rescue him, they will notice him by the water rather than between trees. Which, again, I would have
never thought about.
I also learned how to make fire, home, and catch fish thanks to him. When making a fire, he needed

owns the land and water that makes the lake. There is a spillway that takes water through the Trinity
River to Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth. This year has been a rough year for Lake Bridgeport
with three digit temperatures and draining water to the other lakes. Since one of the purposes to
build Lake Bridgeport was for storage, The Tarrant County water district approved to let out 20,000
acre feet of water from Lake Bridgeport to prevent the other lakes to be low. "But 2013 is anything
but a normal year. Today, what once was a scenic lake is covered in chest–high weeds. " Boaters and
fisherman enjoy going to Lake Bridgeport during the summer. But in the summer of 2013 the boat
ramps were unusable so the number of residents going to the lake dropped. There are dead fish
floating to the shoreline as well as many other wildlife animals. The lake tested positive for Zebra
Mussel larva, which is shell like creatures that are very sharp and stick to boats, anchors and docks.
The Mussels are very dangerous for the lake environment, but they also eat bacteria so they could
help the lake water clear up. If no water is drained out of Lake Bridgeport then the residents of
Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth could possibly run out of drinking water.

The Rise And Fall Of The Aztecs
The Aztecs
The Aztecs were a brutal people group in Mesoamerica. They started as a nomadic tribe in northern
Mexico and eventually became a powerful empire known for its brutal religion and warfare. The
Aztecs brought down many city states only to be conquered by Spanish invaders in 1521.
The exact way of how they became such a powerful empire is uncertain. They began to rise as the
Toltec empire began to fall. It is said that they saw a eagle perched on a cactus near the lake
Texcoco. The Aztecs constructed a man–made island on a lake. They built their capital,
Tenochtitlan, somewhere around 1325.
In 1428, under the reign of Itzcoatl the Aztecs made a three way alliance with the Texcocans and the
Tacubans in order to defeat the Tepanec. After Itzcoatl died, in 1440, Montezuma I took his place.

The Aztecs arrived in central Mexico approximately the fifteenth century. The Incas settled in the

had built an enormous empire stretching more the 4,000 kilometers. Both empires were enormous,

Long distance trade fell under the supervision of the central government and administrator's
organized exchanges of the agricultural products. The Incas came up with their own writing system

large thick cord, unlike the Aztecs system which was just symbols. The Incan social structure was
based upon hereditary aristocrats, consisting of rulers, priests, and peasant cultivators. Like the
Aztecs the Incas performed bloodletting rituals, the sacrificial subject was just an animal instead of a
human. The Incans considered the sun as a god and as their major deity, called Inti. They also
recognized the moon, stars, planets, rain, and other natural forces as divine. Many of the differences
between the Aztecs and the Incas benefited the two by becoming successful, striving, powerful
regions. The Aztec and Incan empires both had strong armies. In the Aztec empire by the early

The Aztecs And The Aztec Culture
The Aztecs are often perceived as a merciless society who increased their empire through bloody
conflict. Furthermore, they are most remembered for religious sacrifice of humans. This included
elaborate ceremonies culminating with the removal of organs while the sufferers were still
breathing. Although violent sacrifice is intolerable in modern times, it wasn't uncommon less than a
millennia ago. It was practiced throughout the world on every continent. This includes Mesopotamia
which is a cradle of civilization and site for Adam and Eve's story. According to Nature Journal of
Science, recent scientific research indicates that two–thirds of the highly stratified societies
practiced the macabre ritual, compared with just one–quarter of the egalitarian societies (Watts,
2016). The Aztecs or aztecah were a highly stratified society that expanded from small beginnings,
concentrated on academic equality, and contributed to human progression. Although the Aztec's
culture was short lived, it merits appreciation.
The Aztecs origins began in the 12 century as a small conglomerate of wondering nomadic tribes.
According to oral tradition, they came from a location named Aztlan in northwest Mexico. Aztecs
called each other Mexica or Tenochca and spoke Nahuatl. Beginning in the 1320s, Aztecs settled in
central Mexico and began establishing a capital referred to as Tenochtitlan which is presently
Mexico City. According to Richard Andrews, the phonetic meaning of Tenochtitlan is

Economic Characteristics Of The Aztec And Inca Empires
In the 1400's through the 1500"s there were the Aztec and Inca empires, both were empires that
started out as marginalized peoples who conquered and absorbed other cultures. Aztec and Inca
Empires were based on managing resources, goods, and people in an economy centered on intensive
agriculture including having their currency systems. The economic characteristics of the Aztec and
Inca empires were similar in that they both changed their environment to improve their agricultural
system and they both focused on internal trade networks, however they differed in the way they
taxed their people. The Aztecs were a triple alliance; three city states that banded together for the
greater good. The joined civilizations were Mexico–Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. The Incas
were located around modern day Peru, and are known as the largest empire in the pre–Columbian

The economic characteristics of the government differed from how they collected revenue. So, the
Inca government had a totalitarian complex government whether as Aztecs had a decentralized
government that focused on expansion. In document 4, it explains how the Aztecs required
conquered lands to pay a tribute. Aztecs would pay in goods and services rather than currency. From
the source document 5 Pedro de Cieza de Léon describes the Inca rule, that there was a king or
emperor, as well as representatives for each province. As for the aztecs as mentioning that they
formed a triple alliance, they did not end up

Descriptive Narrative
First time? No. Last time? Possibly. The rays of July sun pound down, scorching my pale flesh, but I
don't feel it. Fear augments inside me; unsure my limits, I persist.
The lake gleamed in the bright mountain sunshine, which would have been warm if not for the
breeze, yet all the campers are still full of joy. All except me. I stripp off my towel, revealing my
pale, goose–bump ridden skin and a thin black bathing suit.
My mom is staring out at the lake, the shining sun hitting her sunscreen smudged face, looking
chipper, she reaches down, to pet the dorkus, fuzzy not so white miniature poodle, Totoro, who
reflects the same emotion.
I look to my dad, desperately trying to hide the fear that was spewn across my face; he looks at me
and smiles, a confident smile, obviously not reading the terror I managed to hide.
"Ready, kiddo?" he queries.
"Yes" I lie, for I could never prepare me for the daunting task that lay ahead of me.
I fumbled to peel my shoes away from my feet, the warm, sunbaked sand creeping through each
crevice in every toe, filling them with warmth.
I stick my hand in the snow melt that makes up the lake known as Gerel Creek. Immediately, I
remove it, then soon replace it with my foot. One after the next, my feet carry me deeper and deeper
in the frigid water. At this point, I am waist deep in it, shivering, though the cold has numbed all
parts of me, from my waist down. Suddenly and unexpectedly, I plunge, kicking my feet against the
rock, and begin to

  • 2. Characteristics Of Hernan Cortes During the 1500s Hernan Cortes traveled to the Aztec civilizations of Mesoamerica, and more in particular, Tenochtitlan with the mindset to take on the land of the natives. When he got there, he was uneasy with what he saw, which is evident in the letters that Cortes wrote to Charles V. "It happened...that a Spaniard saw an Indian...eating a piece of flesh taken from the body of an Indian who had been killed (Cortes)." Cortes viewed the Aztecs living in Tenochtitlan as completely barbaric because they practiced human sacrifice, which was cannibalism and were polytheistic. Despite Cortes describing the people of Tenochtitlan as "barbarous", he was able to find positive qualities in them because he saw their knowledge, technological advances, and independence. One way that the Aztecs showed their knowledge was through the design of Tenochtitlan. The people of Tenochtitlan built the city on an island, surrounding a lake. Cortes applauded the Aztecs for this aspect. "This great city of Tenochtitlan is built on the salt lake...it has four approaches by means of artificial causeways... (Cortes)" This was a smart move for the Aztecs since they had an endless supply of water. "Built on an island on Lake Texcoco, it had a system of canals and causeways that supplied the hundreds of thousands of people who lived there (Jarus)." Additionally, Cortes admired the new technological advances that the Aztecs invented. Since Tenochtitlan was built overtop of a lake, people of the civilization had to adapt to having a lack of farmland. They created an innovative way to create farmland, called chinampas. "The Aztecs made giant reed mats and placed them on top of the water. They made a fence around the mat and placed mud, fertilizer, and rotten vegetables on it. Then trees were planted on all sides of the chinampa. The trees grew very quickly and their roots held the soil to keep it from flowing away. The Aztecs planted corn, tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and squash. The plants' roots would grow to the bottom of the lake so they would have an endless supply of water (Tenochtitlan)." Doing this gave Tenochtitlan a great amount of food, without having to sacrifice their supply of water or land. Lastly, Cortes found that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay On The Aztecs In 1519, the Aztecs were the most powerful kingdom in Mesoamerica. At the peak of their reign, their territory stretched as far as 80,000 square miles over southern Mexico, and had as many as fifteen million people. The Aztecs emerged in the thirteenth century, as a nomadic tribe. They were guided by their chief god, Huitzilopochtli, the war god and representative of the sun. The Aztecs couldn 't find a place to settle in the crowded central Mexico. Eventually, they were taken as serfs and mercenaries by the Colhuacan. Their population increased as they married the women that belonged to their neighbors. Eventually, the lowly Aztecs received a Toltec princess for their chief In 1323, the Aztecs sacrificed the princess with the belief that she would become a war goddess. The Colhuacan were horrified, and expelled the Aztecs from their territory. The Aztecs, no longer a hungry band of nomads, but a group of wise people after serving the Colhuacan, set out to find a new territory once again. They traveled southwest to the borders of the lakes that once surrounded Mexico City. There, they found two unoccupied, marshy islands that they quickly took and claimed as their own. They believed they were chosen by the gods and foretold that they would find a mighty city at a place where they would see an eagle perched on a cactus devouring a snake. Eventually, on a deserted island, they saw the majestic sight. Around 1345, under the rule of the ChiefTenoch, they had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Does Aztec Culture Mean For Mexican People? What does Aztec culture mean for Mexican people? The Aztec culture was the beginning of the Mexican culture along with other Indian territories in Mexico. The Aztecs were known because they ruled and most of the southern part of Mexico for a long period of time, but like everyone knows everything has to come to an end. Even though Aztec society is gone, their society levels, religion, and architecture can still be seen and analyzed today. The Aztecs were Mesoamerican people from the early centuries in the Americas. The home of the Aztecs was in the Valley of Mexico, they named it Tenochtitlan an island in Lake Texcoco. Before they got to Tenochtitlan, the Aztecs were from Aztlan led by chief man Tenoch. It was believed that "they were hated and rejected by all the surrounding inhabitants of the valley because they were uncivilized" (Aztec Culture). It was also believed that the chief Tenoch got a message from their God that said to lead his people to a place surrounded by Lake Texcoco and, where they saw an eagle eating a snake on a cactus that was their place for them to grow. During the next couple of years, the Aztec empire began growing into the greatest and most powerful tribe in Mexico. The Emperor who led them after Tenoch was Moctezuma II and it has also who led them to their downfall when the Spanish got to Tenochtitlan. Their society was based on infrastructure because the nobility was the highest, then there were the commoners and lastly the slaves. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Aztec Civilization Essay The Aztec Indians created a great civilization in Central Mexico, reaching its peak in the 1500’s. Being late arrivals to the area, and because of their strong neighboring nations, they were forced to live in the swampy western areas of the Lake Texcoco. Because of the swampy surroundings, the Aztecs used mud to create miniature islands in the swamps. These islands are called chinampas, or “floating gardens,'; and were used as farming lands. On these fertile islands they grew corn, squash, vegetables, and flowers. Being an agriculturally dependant empire, the Aztec’s religion was based highly on the forces of nature and worshipped them as gods. The god of war, Huitzilopochtli, was the most important deity. ... The sun god is in the middle, with the heavens surrounding it, and pictures of people made out of precious stones. The Aztec form of writing was in pictographs, or small pictures symbolizing objects or sounds. The Aztec numbering system used pictographs also, and was based on the number 20. For example, a flag represented 20, a fir tree represented 20 times 20, or 400, and a pouch represented 400 times 20, or 8000. The capitol of the Aztec Empire was Tenochtitlan, which was built where modern–day Mexico City is. It was given the nickname “Venice of the New World,'; because it had many canals. During the acme of the Aztec civilization, the population of this great city numbered more than 200,000. This made it one of the most populated cities in the ancient world. The city was connected to the mainland by 3 causeways, which, when flooded, served as protective dikes. In the city aqueducts, which was probably the first type of indoor plumbing, brought fresh water into homes. Many people used canoes to travel through the city. Most of the houses were made up of mud and twisted twigs, but the nobility and priests had plastered brick or stone houses. In 1519, Spanish explorer Hernando Cortes and more than 500 other Spaniards landed on the shores of Mexico in search of gold. • 6. The Fall Of The Aztecs Daniel 1 Peter Daniel Professor Chrissanthos TA: Christina Pappous HIST010 4 June 2015 The Fall of the Aztecs The Aztec civilization is widely regarded as the greatest civilization of the Americas. The Aztecs' empire covered most of modern day central Mexico and was the most powerful civilization in the region at the time. They had developed political, religious, and social systems that were very intricate and important to the culture as a whole. The Aztecs, at the height of their greatness, ruled 5–6 million people and over 500 city–states. However every great civilization in history, including the Aztecs, have a rise and have a fall. The Aztec Empire fell to the Spaniard's conquest because of the Aztec's religion, disease, Spanish weaponry, and native alliances. Although the Aztecs have an unknown origin, by legend they are believed to have originated from the northern part of modern day Mexico. A nomadic tribe known as the Mexica began migrating to the Valley of Mexico. These people are what society calls Aztecs today. In A.D. 1325 the Mexica founded the great city of Tenochtitlan (modern day Mexico City) on the island of Lake Texcoco. Tenochtitlan allied with the cities of Texcoco and Tacuba to form an alliance against the Tepanec people who were the dominant people of the region. This alliance was known as the Triple Alliance which was the basis of the Aztec Empire. The Triple Alliance dominated Central Mexico up until the time of the Spanish Conquest in 1521. ... • 7. Utah Lake Speech I am writing to you today to talk about the state of Utah Lake and how to clean it up. Utah Lake is the only lake that is easy to access without going on an hour or longer car trip from Utah Valley. Because of that we should try and make Utah Lake more tourist friendly and better looking. This would bring more people there and make it a better experience to be there. In its current state Utah Lake isn't a very attractive destination. Utah Lake got 134,000 visits in 2017 which is pretty high compared to other parks in Utah but it isn't that much compared the more visited state parks. When most people think of Utah they probably think of Southern Utah. You could have more tourists come to more places in Utah other than Southern Utah by giving more natural options in Central and Northern Utah. Utah lake is already a pretty nice place to go and fish but other than that there is not much else to do. You could make it a nice place to go swimming which would bring a lot more people than just fishers. The three main causes for Utah Lake not being an attractive place are its high phosphorus levels, the lake being shallow, and the non–native carp living there. All of these factors work together to make Utah Lake ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The solution to the carp problem is easy. You can either reward people for turning in carp to incentivise people to not put the carp back and or you could send boats onto the lake that fish specifically carp. The phosphorus is also pretty easy. What you will need to do is stop all dumping into the lake to stop the phosphorus from going up, and then adding or breeding more fish into the lake to naturally get rid of the phosphorus. But with adding fish you will have to make sure that it doesn't upset the balance. In conclusion the solutions are pretty easy to pull off so it you shouldn't need to put too much energy into ... • 8. The Water and Wastewater Crisis in Mexico City In what was once lake Texcoco now stands the 3rd most populous city in the world. "Ciudad de los Palacios" ("City of Palaces"), or as we know it Mexico City, is home to more then 20 million (2003) people and serves as the governing capital of Mexico. Like many other metropolis D.F. (as known by the Mexican people) post enormous water sanitation and distribution problems. Ironically enough, the waters once known as lake Texcoco, in which the city lays its foundation on causes as many problems pertaining to this matter as it solves. Much like Seattle WA, Mexico city is sinking into the ground. Unlike Seattle this is mostly from poor planning and over use of the cities under lying ground water, not sandy; unstable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But how do you combat this crisis? One solution, installing low–flow toilets could cut usage by 70 percent. (CIP) New York city in the mid 90's was facing a similar water shortage. Facing a choice of a billion dollar pumping station or low–flow toilets, NY opted for the low–flows. 1.33 million low– flow toilets later, water consumption per day drop 70 percent over an eight–year span (91–99), with 70–90 million gallons saved a day! A solution currently being employed is to fix leaks in the cities out dated water pipes. Anywhere from 27–40 percent of the cities water is lost through leaks, an estimated 1100 gallons could be saved a second if these leak were. Other ideas currently in use or suggested include: Collecting rainfall, Desalination, and drip irrigation. My favorite, drip irrigation would not only save 30–70 percent compared with flood irrigation, but has been shown to increase crop yield 20–90 percent, talk about killing two birds with one stone. But really when it comes down to it the easiest and most logical way to cut the cities water demand of 7,750 gallons per second would be to teach people water conservation methods, recycle water more effectively, and/or just stop polluting the current sources. Still it's easier said then done without the proper funding this will never happen. While were on the money subject let me throw just one more fun statistic at you, some 40 percent of water users either never receive water bills or simply refuse to pay them. ... • 9. Negative Effects On Animals In Their Environment Both countries have experienced polluted waters which have had negative effects on animals in their environment. For example, in 2007, multiple sea otters were found dead in the Pacific Ocean and a marine–wildlife veterinarian, Melissa Miller, determined that these otters were poisoned by a toxin called microcystin, which is produced by blue–green algae. When fertilizers and human sewage run into rivers and lakes, these toxins start to appear because nutrients are added that cause the growth of algae known as "super blooms". However, sea otters don't go to the areas these blooms occur in like polluted rivers and lakes. Miller then did some research and found that super blooms occurred frequently in a lake, Pinto Lake, that eventually drains into the area of the Pacific Ocean where the dead otters were found. The toxins were also found to be in shellfish which in a part of the otters' main diet, so after this Miller concluded that the toxin travelled downstream in the ocean from polluted lakes, where they found their way into shellfish, and eventually ended up killing the otters. A similar event occurred in South Africa around the same time frame, but this involved crocodiles. Toward the end of 2008, rangers in the Kruger National Park (KNP) reported that around 170 crocodiles were found dead in the Olifants river with a similar estimate a year later in 2009. Veterinarians who performed the autopsies for these crocodiles determined the cause of death to be pansteatitis which is a disease based on nutrients that paralyzes animals leaving them to drown or starve to death, but it rarely affects animals in the wild. After some of the veterinarians did more research and analyzed the crocodiles' fat tissue, they discovered that phytoplankton was the source of the high intake of fats in these crocodiles. However, the crocodiles don't feed on it directly; so they did more research and found that downstream of the Olifants was Lake Massingir which is known for plankton blooms because of eutrophication. In the end, the veterinarians came to the conclusion that the silver carp, a fish that was purposely introduced into Lake Massingir, accidently escaped and found their way to where these crocodiles ... The Dictionary States That Fracking Is A Method Used For The dictionary states that fracking is a method used for getting oil and gas from underground rocks by injecting liquid into the rocks so that they can break apart (Merriam–Webster). Fracking can be a controversial topic in numerous people's eyes due to the side effects that coincide with this procedure. Fracking has evolved over the years and made a comeback around 2010. Lately, the United States has heard tremendous news regarding this procedure and the drawbacks from fracking natural gases and oil. Fracking is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The environmental risks that accompany fracking are potentially hazardous. In order to frack, thousands of acres of forests need destroyed to allow roadways the space they need to exist (Lampe 38). However, these roadways allow erosion to occur due to the lack of vegetation (Lampe 38). Along with erosion, siltation occurs and sand, soil, and mud sink to the bottom of rivers, and ponds (Lampe 38). Therefore, the animals living in these habitats may migrate, or simply just die. Trees situated on the acres of land for hundreds of years would have to be chopped down to make way for roadways. In some cases, depending on where the oil reservoir is located, the state declares eminent domain on houses and pays the landowners. Consequently, the houses will be destroyed and the oil reservoirs will be fracked. The greatest common concern on the subject today is water contamination. Individuals grew worried that the chemicals used to gather these natural resources will seep into the water and contaminate the United States. The water necessary to frack is gathered from rivers, lakes, ponds, and even aquifers. This is then combined with chemicals and pumped into the ground. Fracking was exempted from the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act and the chemicals used to frack are not tested frequently in our water (Lampe 34). Bordering on 20 to 40 percent of the water used to frack rises back up to the surface and is stored on site (Lampe 34). An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Women In The Mexican Revolution Women in the Mexican Revolution In most history books, Pancho Villa is depicted as a often cruel but always fearless and cunning leader who courageously fought the dictatorial behavior of Porfirian Diaz in the Mexican Revolution. And some of this is certainly true. The great majority of reports and undocumented stories of Pancho Villa's epic struggles against injustice are all about males, but authors Anna Macias and Elena Poniatowska record the fact that women were a big part of the Mexican Revolution and that Villa was a viciously bloodthirsty scoundrel when it came to women and young girls. In order to set the record straight, Macias and Poniatowska present the writings of three women who ably report involvement of women in these moments in history; for example: a) there were women fighting on the side of Villa and his revolutionary band of warriors; and b) "hundreds of thousands" of women "of every class, were among the victims and casualties" of the conflict. The Literature Women and the Mexican Revolution The women involved with the Mexican Revolution included not just fighters and victims but also reporters with the skill to publish truthful editorials and articles. Lake temperatures does not variate drastically, but does change gradually with every season of the year. Summer, the thermic stratification of lakes, can be studied in different layers (Figure 2). The superior level of a lake that is terminally stratified, is known to be epilimnion, which is the warmer part of the fresh water body. This water remains in the superior part because as the water gets warmer, the light of the sun becomes clearer than the dense water downward. The metalimnion is the known layer that would be ubicated beneath. This layer is defined by the thermocline where the temperature slightly decreases. In this phase, the temperature decreases 1 °C for every single meter that descends. Hypolimnion would be the last stratified layer in a lake. This deep and cutoff from sources of air. The development of this ancient city was dependent on three important factors: favorable ecology, advancing technology, and social organization. With these three preconditions, the growth of Tenochtitlan as a major urban center and as the capital of the Aztec's civilization was able to flourish. Similarly to modern–day real estate, location played a detrimental role in determining whether or not an urban center could truly develop and flourish. A location with favorable ecology allows for resources such as agriculture to be produced near or within the city. However, agriculture is not the only element of ecology that allows for a city to develop. Other ecological elements such as rivers, lakes, elevation, mineral resource, and building materials are important in determining whether or not a location has favorable ecology (28). Tenochtitlan is often compared to Europe's Venice due to its structure and location within the Valley of Mexico. The landscape of the Valley of Mexico consisted of multiple lakes and "resembled a water–filled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This was due to the fact that they were basically islands used for the soul purpose of vegetation, situated on swamps and canals. The Aztecs were very resourceful. Most of their land was swamp and canals, so it was extremely hard to grow food let alone provide it for their entire civilization. Therefore, the wove together tree bark, and let it float on top of these swamps. Then, they would take any fertile soil they could find, including from inside the swamps, and dumped it on the platform. It is truly fascinating how these islands made such a colossal difference in the civilization of the Aztecs. Chinampas also saved the capital of the Aztec Empire, Tenochtitlan, from starving. Their capital alone had a whopping 150,000–200,000 people (Investigating Chinampa Farming). The thing is that the majority of them weren't even food producers (Investigating Chinampa Farming). This was a very troubling dilemma that chinampas were the solution to. In fact, chinampas produced an estimated one–half to two–thirds of the food consumed in Tenochtitlan (Investigating Chinampa Farming)! That is absolutely astounding. Without chinampas, the Aztec Empire would be scrambling for food due to their swampy location. But fortunately, they did have chinampas. In addition, chinampas utilized a method of transport that would in turn benefit their civilization. The Aztecs built chinampas in a specific way; parallel to each other (Aztec History). This repetitive yet clever arrangement produced a complex system of canals (Aztec History). This allowed canoes to through these canals. All of this was cause by the creation of chinampas. Furthermore, this created an efficient method of delivery and travel. This way, canoes could simply row up next to chinampa and load different crops and plants. History and Origin of Fishing Pond During the winter, supplying fresh food for a castle garrison was a constant struggle. Though meat would be available from deer parks, this couldn't supply the necessities of the entire family. A fish pond gave an elegant solution. As long as there was a natural flow of water into the pond, fish required no feeding and were accessible available all year round. There would usually be a series of ponds, with fish being moved between them as they grew. How to Conduct this Activity (Fishing Pond)? Set up a space. Assign a certain part of your yard for it. It is located in the southern section of the park near the Parkside Avenue entrances and between Prospect Park West and Ocean Avenue. An intricate system of ponds and ravines keep the lake filled with water. The park's designers, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux (also designers of Manhattan's Central Park), realized that there were several natural ponds in the higher mid section of the park. Consequently, Olmsted and Vaux engineered a ravine that would carry water downhill from these ponds over a series of mini waterfalls and into the lake. This story takes place in the Canadian wilderness without a specified time. I think this book is both interesting and helpful because of its contents. To summarize the story, Brain was the sole passenger on the tiny Cessna 406 bush plane. He was flying from the U.S. to Canada to spend summer break with his father after his parents divorced. The pilot has a heart attack and the plane ends up crashing in a lake after Brain controlling it for a few hours. Brain survived. He is now alone in the wilderness. I admire that part about him because there won't be someone always there to help you. Sometimes you are the one who has to comfort yourself. Brain went through so much alone in the wilderness. He had faced wild animals such as a bear, a skunk, and foxes. He knew how to deal with them for the most part. When the foxes were near him, he knew to keep calm, not move, and wait until they leave. When the bear entered his home, he scared it with fire so it won't come back. The skunk had attacked him without a warning but Brian knew how to deal with the aftermath. He ran to the lake, took off his clothes, and jumped in. If it wasn't for this story, I wouldn't have know how to act when there is a dangerous animal in me, how to build a home, or catch fish and food. His first attempt to get food was search for fruit. He walked around keeping the lake in his sight so he won 't get lost. That was a smart move because I would have wandered around forgetting about the lake. He wanted to stay by the lake not only for the water but because when people come to rescue him, they will notice him by the water rather than between trees. There is a spillway that takes water through the Trinity River to Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth. This year has been a rough year for Lake Bridgeport with three digit temperatures and draining water to the other lakes. Since one of the purposes to build Lake Bridgeport was for storage, The Tarrant County water district approved to let out 20,000 acre feet of water from Lake Bridgeport to prevent the other lakes to be low. "But 2013 is anything but a normal year. Today, what once was a scenic lake is covered in chest–high weeds. " Boaters and fisherman enjoy going to Lake Bridgeport during the summer. But in the summer of 2013 the boat ramps were unusable so the number of residents going to the lake dropped. There are dead fish floating to the shoreline as well as many other wildlife animals. The lake tested positive for Zebra Mussel larva, which is shell like creatures that are very sharp and stick to boats, anchors and docks. The Mussels are very dangerous for the lake environment, but they also eat bacteria so they could help the lake water clear up. If no water is drained out of Lake Bridgeport then the residents of Eagle Mountain Lake and Lake Worth could possibly run out of drinking water. • 35. The Rise And Fall Of The Aztecs The Aztecs The Aztecs were a brutal people group in Mesoamerica. They started as a nomadic tribe in northern Mexico and eventually became a powerful empire known for its brutal religion and warfare. The Aztecs brought down many city states only to be conquered by Spanish invaders in 1521. The exact way of how they became such a powerful empire is uncertain. They began to rise as the Toltec empire began to fall. It is said that they saw a eagle perched on a cactus near the lake Texcoco. The Aztecs constructed a man–made island on a lake. They built their capital, Tenochtitlan, somewhere around 1325. In 1428, under the reign of Itzcoatl the Aztecs made a three way alliance with the Texcocans and the Tacubans in order to defeat the Tepanec. After Itzcoatl died, in 1440, Montezuma I took his place. • 37. The Aztecs And The Aztec Culture The Aztecs are often perceived as a merciless society who increased their empire through bloody conflict. Furthermore, they are most remembered for religious sacrifice of humans. This included elaborate ceremonies culminating with the removal of organs while the sufferers were still breathing. Although violent sacrifice is intolerable in modern times, it wasn't uncommon less than a millennia ago. It was practiced throughout the world on every continent. This includes Mesopotamia which is a cradle of civilization and site for Adam and Eve's story. According to Nature Journal of Science, recent scientific research indicates that two–thirds of the highly stratified societies practiced the macabre ritual, compared with just one–quarter of the egalitarian societies (Watts, 2016). The Aztecs or aztecah were a highly stratified society that expanded from small beginnings, concentrated on academic equality, and contributed to human progression. Although the Aztec's culture was short lived, it merits appreciation. The Aztecs origins began in the 12 century as a small conglomerate of wondering nomadic tribes. According to oral tradition, they came from a location named Aztlan in northwest Mexico. Aztecs called each other Mexica or Tenochca and spoke Nahuatl. Economic Characteristics Of The Aztec And Inca Empires In the 1400's through the 1500"s there were the Aztec and Inca empires, both were empires that started out as marginalized peoples who conquered and absorbed other cultures. Aztec and Inca Empires were based on managing resources, goods, and people in an economy centered on intensive agriculture including having their currency systems. The economic characteristics of the Aztec and Inca empires were similar in that they both changed their environment to improve their agricultural system and they both focused on internal trade networks, however they differed in the way they taxed their people. The Aztecs were a triple alliance; three city states that banded together for the greater good. The joined civilizations were Mexico–Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, and Tlacopan. The Incas were located around modern day Peru, and are known as the largest empire in the pre–Columbian America. The economic characteristics of the government differed from how they collected revenue. So, the Inca government had a totalitarian complex government whether as Aztecs had a decentralized government that focused on expansion. In document 4, it explains how the Aztecs required conquered lands to pay a tribute. Aztecs would pay in goods and services rather than currency. The lake gleamed in the bright mountain sunshine, which would have been warm if not for the breeze, yet all the campers are still full of joy. All except me. I stripp off my towel, revealing my pale, goose–bump ridden skin and a thin black bathing suit. My mom is staring out at the lake, the shining sun hitting her sunscreen smudged face, looking chipper, she reaches down, to pet the dorkus, fuzzy not so white miniature poodle, Totoro, who reflects the same emotion. I look to my dad, desperately trying to hide the fear that was spewn across my face; he looks at me and smiles, a confident smile, obviously not reading the terror I managed to hide. "Ready, kiddo?" he queries. "Yes" I lie, for I could never prepare me for the daunting task that lay ahead of me. I fumbled to peel my shoes away from my feet, the warm, sunbaked sand creeping through each crevice in every toe, filling them with warmth. I stick my hand in the snow melt that makes up the lake known as Gerel Creek. Immediately, I remove it, then soon replace it with my foot. One after the next, my feet carry me deeper and deeper in the frigid water. At this point, I am waist deep in it, shivering, though the cold has numbed all parts of me, from my waist down.
