Lighting presentation
1. Lighting- Scene one
The first shot we took had to show the audience the level of
secrecy and privacy from what the male protagonist is
saying and by his actions, the fact that he might be getting
watched. Because of this we needed to highlight the fact
that the job in hand is dangerous and secretive but isn’t
necessarily bad. Because of this, the lighting that surrounds
him is darker to show the secrecy of the meeting but by
having the lighting highlight his face it shows the character
as being innocent and good and shows the binary opposite
of light and dark. While the place is in secret and what he is
offering is dangerous, the character himself is pure and his
actions are actually meant for good purposes. Enigma here
can be applied to what he is hiding from and why the place
in question is so secret.
2. Scene 2:
This is the beginning of the chase scene where we
see the protagonist running away from two
antagonists and finally getting caught. Because of
the fact the protagonist has emerged from the light
and is entering a darker, more rough looking area
where he is then caught and killed, because of this
the lighting was key in order to show the transition
between the two different areas. Because of this,
the protagonist starts by emerging from a bright
beam of light to show the safety of the outside and
the purity of the character and then having the area
he runs into appear a lot darker to show the binary
opposites and also in able for enigma to be applied
as to what is going to happen to the antagonist
when he is deeper within the tunnel and out of this
safety zone in the light.
3. With this shot we took away the lighting as we
wanted this shot to appear, just like the first
scene, to be done in secret as if the protagonist
is hiding away and it’s personal between her
and the camera. With the white background
we wanted to establish the character as being
good and innocent but the lighting used shows
the secrecy and the intimacy between the
audience and the female character. Here it
shows the binary opposites between the white
of the background and the darkness of the
lighting, showing the dark that is slowly
draining through her.
