ASI Recommendation from Michael Kolenda, PhD
1. April 24, 2000
To Whom It May Concern:
Re: Thomas LeClair
It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for the aforementioned individual. I have
known Tom since 1996. We were involved in the development and implementation of several of
Ancilla Systems Incorporatedâs (ASI) managed care strategies. While I was the Director of the
Midwest Behavioral Health Network, Tom gave me invaluable advice and consultation. He and I
also worked together with ASIâs Human Resource department to develop a healthcare benefit
plan which incorporated the physician network and managed mental health network that ASI
had created across the northern tier of Indiana. Tom and I tackled several very difficult tasks for
ASI and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities I had to work with him.
I would like to begin by describing Tomâs personality. As someone with a Ph.D. in Counseling
and who worked as a therapist for over 15 years, I believe I can offer some accurate, valuable
insight to this manâs makeup. From my experience, Tom is a value-driven, hard-working,
conscientious individual who thrives on challenges. He is an extremely pleasant person with a
very keen wit. He can be quite perceptive and sensitive to interpersonal relations, particularly
peopleâs emotions. That capacity is particularly valuable when it comes to sales and marketing
(see below). In addition, Tom has a talent for blending tact and candor whenever he encounters
difficult interpersonal situations. Although he is very bright, Tom is equally graced with a
considerable amount of âgood old-fashioned horse sense.â I perceive him to be a highly
principled man, perhaps even a little idealistic/perfectionistic. I also consider him to be a
genuinely humble man - - Tom is not afraid to ask questions, to admit âI donât knowâ when
appropriate, and to ask for help. Finally, once Tom has developed a trust relationship with
someone, he is very loyal to that person.
When it comes to Tom abilities on-the-job, he has excellent writing skills as well as strong
analytical and problem-solving skills. Also, he has excellent computer skills. Tom has a good
grasp of group dynamics, particularly in the workplace. He is very capable of âthinking outside of
the boxâ and prides himself on being on the cutting edge. He is very well read vis-Ă -vis medical/
business issues related to his areas of concern. Finally, Tom is exceptionally skilled when it
comes to developing proposals, selling concepts and negotiating contracts.
In closing, I consider Tom LeClair to be one of the most talented, personable leaders I had the
chance to work with at Ancilla. Accordingly, I give him a resounding endorsement as a
healthcare executive. Your organization would be most fortunate to have this man working with
you. If you have any further questions regarding my letter, please contact me.
Sincerely yours,
Michael K. Kolenda, Ph.D.
