2. This section is about the causes of the cold
war. These can be divided into different
areas:
1) Communism versus capitalism (USA v USSR)
2) A History of mistrust.
In 1917 the USSR became communist in the Russian Revolution.
In 1919 the USA, Britain and France sent troops to try and defeat
communism
In 1933 Hitler became leader of Germany. He hated communism.
Stalin tried to form an alliance with Britain and France against Hitler
but they were not interested. Stalin saw this as Western support
for Hitler.
In 1938 a conference was held to discuss what to do with
Czechoslovakia (Hitler wanted to overtake it). Stalin was not invited
to this Munich Conference.
After Hitler invaded the USSR in 1941, the USSR did fight on the
same side as Britain and America in World War Two. Stalin
however always felt that Britain and America were allowing the
USSR to bear all the casualties in ww2 as they did not launch D-Day
until 1944.
3) Actions of the USSR after 1945
4) Actions of the USA after 1945.
YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW ALL THESE FACTORS MADE THE
COLD WAR LIKELY!
