RUNNING HEAD: PROJECT SCHEDULE 1
PROJECT SCHEDULE 5
Instructions below. Paper that was submitted on next page
Using the results of your work from week two project Identify
Overall Scope/ Analysis of Unexpected Results; two additional
events will be introduced. You will again analyze the impact of
these events to the final project.
In a 2-3 page Word document, discuss your analysis on the
following events:
1. It is discovered the refrigerated module is too large for the
designed refrigerated backpack pouch. What is your course of
action?
2. The subcontractor assigned to build the radio module for the
backpack has shut down. What is your course of action?
In your analysis, you should discuss four areas affected by these
unexpected events. Three of the areas of the project affected by
the events should include changes to budget, human capital, and
impact to schedule, and identify one additional area affected by
these events.
The project is all about the designing a backpack which will
contain a refrigerated pouch and a radio module for the military
of US to use during their daily tasks. After going through all the
process of project implementation their will occur some
unexpected results in one of the components in the project life
cycle.
In any project implementation the people undertaking it is
given a timeframe so that the equipment will be completed on
the required time. This might be an issue because; the people
implementing the project may run out of time before finishing
up the given task on time. This will bring in inconveniences to
the US army crew and it will require them to be a little bit
patient.
Impacts of the events
Delay may occur due to more time used to determine the
designed and technology to be put in so that the backpack would
be able to accommodate all the required components. The
backpack should have enough space to take in both the radio
module and the refrigerator pack. Also delay of the materials
used to implement the project is another issue in that the
suppliers take longer period to bring the required materials on
time. (Institute, 2008)
The pack back may occur to be smaller in that it will not
accommodate the two equipment’s so it will be advisable for the
team to dismantle the bag and think of making it bigger enough
to accommodate the two and also ensure that the temperatures
are regulated without any problem. Before going about the
implementation it is good for the team to design the backpack
taking into account all the aspects which will be encountered
during implementation.
On the other hand, the other issue is the closure of the
company which was given to design and manufacture the
backpack. This will lead to waste of the resources which had
been allocated for the task implementation.
It is therefore advisable for the subcontractor to refund part
of the money which had been paid, so that another company will
take the task from where it was left by the other subcontractor.
This will lead to more delay encountered because the other
subcontractor will have to identify the supplier before
commencing the task.
Areas affected by these unexpected events
Human capital
Capital being the key thing in any project implementation; it
may change because of the change of the subcontractor. This is
because after the closure of the first subcontractor firm, the US
army had to look for another one and the budgeted capital had
to go up due to the shift which occurred within a short period of
time (Kendrick, 2009)
Changes to budget
Before any project commencement in general, there should be
allocated budget which will ensure that there is no deficiency.
The budget will have to change due to the occurrence of the
unexpected events during the process of project implementation.
The company, have to go deep into their pockets so as to meet
the new budget and this may lead to a loss to the US army due
to unanticipated occurrences.
`Impact to schedule
The backpack project had been scheduled to be completed
within a period of one and half years but due to the changes the
expected period had to be extended. This will lead to more time
and also the latter company will have to schedule their workers
to work overtime in order to accomplish the task within that
given period of time. They should also have to meet the
required requirements of the project like the backpack should be
of high quality, light, long lasting no matter how long they have
been given.
Poor quality
Due to this unexpected events which occurred during the
project implementation, the latter subcontractor may not meet
the requirements needed and may end up producing a low
quality backpack. This will not be able to last longer but the
army will have to encounter loss because they have to produce
another set of backpack over a shorter period of time.

STATEMENT OF WORK
5
Part 4: instructions below and paper submitted on next page
Statement of Work (SOW) Document:
In 2-3 pages, develop the project Statement of Work document
to include the following information:
· Business need
· Product scope description
· Strategic plan
Statement of work can be defined as a formal document that
elaborates the entire scope and extent of work involved for a
vendor and clarifies deliverables, timelines, and cost. It is
required in times where the project involves external
participants and vendors in addition to the internal project team.
SOW, therefore, is created as part of a contract or bid
document. It is important that the SOW becomes clear to all
stakeholders so as to shed light on metrics for success and also
to minimize and avoid dispute which may occur as a result of
budgets, deliverables or timelines. In the backpack project, this
paper will address all possible approaches concerning the
statement of work.
Business needs.
The main purpose of the project needs as a statement is to come
up with a convenient, durable and comfortable backpack for the
military to execute their operations with ease. The project also
targets to manufacture a back pan that has a provision for radio
and refrigerated place for storage of snack during military
operations. The another aspect of the business statement seeks
to get an elaborate goal of the project; the ultimate project goal
is to be able to deliver 100 units of backpack as the first
delivery and then 50 more units in the last delivery of quarter
(Institute., 2008)
Regarding the rough estimates of magnitude (ROM) for the
proposed I/P, development of this project calls for the agreed
first down payment to facilitate payments for the first supplies
and possible casual payments. Since the project is time bound,
human hours are fundamentally important. Initially, the units to
be delivered were supposed to be 100 backpacks, but due to the
increase in demand, 50 more units are to be added within the set
time frame. Therefore, more workforce and resources are
required.
There are possible risks involved if the project I/P is executed
and the inverse is also true. The project seriously encounters
some uncertainties because of underestimation of design and
even development expenditure than the set award because of
inadequate material estimation costs and lack of similar project
data on cost. However, the manager of the project will be able
to handle the risk via good budget estimation and constant
monitoring of usage of raw materials to do away with the risk.
Another risk involves not meeting timeline, and the manager
will have to develop an action plan that shows the list of
projects activities and expected time estimates.
Product scope and description
The product in question here is military backpack which is
spacious enough to accommodate a refrigerator and a control
radio and not that big that it will compromise on the field
operation officer to execute his mandated tasks comfortably. A
background history of the product idea came up as a result of
lack of a convenient pack for carrying fresh food for military
officers on the ground operations. The park’s target audience is
the ministry of defense and the reason as to why this company
was preferred to deliver on the project is that it proved within
the set budget and timeline it will be able to deliver those units.
Also their creativity in making a refrigerated backpack which is
not only for food carriage but also a slot for a radio which will
be of great use in locating an injured soldier in operation for
purposes of rescuing.
The third thing is the project requirement; the backpack needs a
software development for the radios if they have to be
developed together with the pack. Also, it will need a system of
refrigeration which will not be able to tamper with the radio
frequency system that is set beside in the same pack. Regarding
materials, the pack requires plastics and converse clothing to be
modeled separately and then brought for assembling of the
backpack. Project deliverables for this project can be divided
into two sections, optional and mandatory features. Those
features will be subject to a time frame, ability, and their
project cost; the backpack will contain all the features as
indicated in awarded contract for a complete unit. Those
fundamental features for the backpack include; two
compartments for the refrigerated lunch box and radio
compartment. Also, the pack will also have comfortable straps
that will make the user comfortable regarding weight and also
ease of movement in times of operations.
Strategic plan
Often it is the desire of the project team to anticipate for all the
moving parts to connect for the project to be accomplished.
However, it is also their wish that everybody and everything
roles together in the same direction but it is a hard task for this
backpack project accomplishment. In the today’s competitive
climate and also the prevailing global competition there is need
to break down the internal barrier and align the strategic
reasoning, goals, and the project’s objectives (Haugan, 2002).
In accomplishing the strategic plan starts with ensuring that the
project team has developed the critical strategic vision and also
mission alongside the strategic agenda item. Once the team
completely aligns planning as part of strategic planning process,
it can be accommodated. In the strategic plan, the project team
is required to follow some general steps to accomplish. One is
to outline project missions, programs, required resources and
possible areas which need support. The team also has to identify
what is working well and what calls for some adjustments. On
spotting some adjustments, there is need to diagnose how those
adjustments should be executed as well as determining the best
approaches. Finally, the team will have to include those
adjustments as part of strategies in the strategic plan and a road
map which is accompanied with an alignment path. The only
challenge that the project team is like to face with the strategic
plan, especially on alignment, is that they will require a solid
model to be followed.

Analysis of Unexpected Events
In a separate Word document, provide an analysis of unexpected
events using the Project Schedule Template below (the
unexpected events are located in Tab 2 of the document). In
your analysis, you should discuss four areas affected by these
unexpected events. Three of the areas of the project affected by
the events should include changes to budget, human capital, and
impact to schedule. Identify one additional area affected by
these events.
Project Schedule Template
The second part of the project seeks to answer some
eventualities which come up as a result of project
implementation. The first question seeks to address what would
be the cause of action in case the first milestone payment
delays? No matter how well planned a project is, there is always
a possibility of a delay. Delay happens for some reasons; some
are bad while others are just good and others might be blessings
in disguise. Therefore the biggest question is how to handle
them when they do occur. The only solution is to put in place
the right resources, so as to manage a project delay it is
paramount to pull together resources so that I can analyze and
make the right decision. Once the consequences are analyzed
fully about the delay impact, an alternative solution is
welcomed.
In the case of unavailability of the material pattern for the back
pain, the cause of action will be first to have a prior
documentation of risk management plan. When the plan is in
place, it will be easy to identify the risk and evaluated to
speculate the possible delays and therefore some possible
mitigation approaches. Therefore, in this case of unexpected
delay, I would have alternative pattern supplier in the case that
the failure happens and therefore mitigating the uncertain delay
The course of action if the customer gives directives of an
increase in initial delivery from 100 to 150, this calls for the
company adjustments. There are two possible approaches to
mitigate this case, one it will call for extra time to meet the
client increased demands. Alternatively, my production chain
will have to be increased so as to deliver more outputs as the
back pans have increased in number.
If the refrigerated module is large than back pan pouch, then I
think it will be wise if the pouch is dismantled and modeled in a
way that it will be big enough to contain it rather than
interfering with the refrigerated module.

Project Management
Project Description
Back pan project concerns the design and also development of
backpack together with a package of a refrigerated pouch and a
radio module for a military of US as the project client. The
military constantly faces the challenge of always carrying both
their drinks and meals while engaging in serious ground
operations in areas which are very remote. Currently, the
backpacks that the US military does use lacks a refrigeration
pouch and also a radio module, therefore, making it hard and
even endangering the ability to recover troops who may face
difficulties in the battle. In this case, the ground and special
operation, executive staff at US Army have asked for a design
and also the development of a refrigerated backpack which has a
place for a radio module so as to solve once and for all the
existing challenge and improve operations effectiveness. The
project will come up with, design and also deliver refrigerated
backpacks which are of high quality to the US at a time from of
one and half years starting 1st of September up to March 2017.
The project is likely to be accomplished in milestone with the
initial phase involving delivery of around 100 units and late on
in three months 50 units (Institute., 2008).
Project assumption
This backpack project assumes that quality materials will be
availed by the suppliers who will be able to meet the US
military standards regarding softness and durability because the
product will be used in extreme weather conditions. Also, the
project assumes that the US military will be very willing to
progressively offer sufficient resources as outlined in their
proposed award so as to be able to deliver the final product in
the cause of the determined time frame. The managers of the
project will ensure that all the participant in the project are in
possession of the required skills in design and will be able to
accomplish project delivery within the set time frame. All the
team participating in the project will adhere to the set
guidelines as noted by US military contracting policies like the
need to have and maintain confidentiality on the detail of the
backpack design features.
Project goals
The main goal of Backpack project is to provide the United
state military with backpacks which are refrigerated and that are
important for their special operations and ground forces. The
project will come up with high quality, light, long lasting and
operational backpacks which will make sure that the military
forces can carry their particulars in refrigerated packs hence
overcoming the weather difficulties in their course of their
operations. The project will see military perform their duties
because the adjustable shoulder straps and also the radio module
will facilitate their movement and ensure a constant
communication among the team on the battlefield. Again, the
project will also increase the morale of soldiers because the
backpacks are soft and light therefore reducing possible injury
to the users of the backpacks. The project also aims at ensuring
the reusability of backpacks and that they are eco-friendly so as
to reduce their effects on the environment. Also, the backpack
project will be able to avail the final in the cause of the agreed
time frame and cost. The latter will be met by an accurate
estimation of costs, developing time schedules and budgeting
for every activity that is involved in the achievement of the
final product (Milošević, 2016).
Project constraints
The project is faced with some challenges that may impend the
development and design of a cost effective, and a high quality
refrigerated backpacks. The first challenge is the limited
budgetary allocation which is in the proposed awards and
inability to get a bank financing. Secondly, is constraining in
regard to time frame because the project has to be accomplished
within the stipulated time of one and half a year. The main
reason is that the project requires a delivery of 50 units of
backpacks in a span of every three months which precedes the
initial delivery of 100 units and therefore the project personnel
will have to work within the time constraints. Finally, the
backpack project is faced with a technical challenge that will
limit the choice of design. The reason is that both the radio
module and refrigerator module have to be contained in the
same backpack. Therefore the design will consider controlling
temperatures in the pack keenly without interfering with the
radio module present, and therefore this will limit the project
team on choosing the best technology of temperature regulation
in the backpack.
Project limitations
The project is faced with the inadequate expert challenge to
handle the design and development of those backpacks because
of project complexity and the need to get a high qualified
project team. This challenge will cause an increase in overall
project cost because of a high cost of labor. The other limitation
entails lengthy selection process of vendor and also the
requirement that seeks approval of US military. The chances are
that the constraint may delay the project because of poor
working relationships with the suppliers of parts and main raw
materials compromising on the attainment of the set project
schedule deadlines (Kendrick, 2009).
Project risks
The project seriously faces the risk because of underestimation
of design and even development expenditure than the set award
because of inadequate material estimation costs and lack of
similar project data on cost. However, the manager of the
project will be able to handle the risk via good budget
estimation and constant monitoring of usage of raw materials to
do away with the risk. Another risk involves not meeting
timeline, and the manager will have to develop an action plan
that shows the list of projects activities and expected time
estimates.

Introduction:
The choice of the company is Envisioneering Inc; it is a veteran
owned small enterprise that has been in operation for thirty
years in mission support and development regarding technology
to US national security.
Customer:
Envisioneering as a company it gives the expertise to address
the nation most crucial challenge of coming up with
technologies and concepts to protect both Americans and US
military. It also delivers innovative and effective to commercial
and government as its main client.
Initial program action items
As a project manager, the nature and scope of the project are to
supply a backpack with an inbuilt refrigerated pouch and also
radio module to the US army and other forces within the states.
As it has been our duty over the last 30 years of supplying those
products, it would be had as a company to accomplish the task.
As an enterprise, we employ staffs with expertise in fields like
engineers, analysts, scientists, security people and
administrators so as to meet the client’s needs which are
sometimes most challenging and sophisticated operational and
technical problems.
As a project manager, the initial stage gives one an opportunity
to examine the project visibility extensively. Although a
company it has been dealing with supplies, it is good to know
exactly who does what in the entire production of the product.
Another aspect as a project manager is to see whether the
company has enough resources to deliver and a full support of
all participant.
Memo Conclusion:
I think that my first step to undertake is to bring together all the
project concerned personnel at each stage and let them
understand the need, timeframe, and the exact client. Another
very vital thing to check is, are the required resources available.
In the initial stage of the project, there are around five concerns
that should worry a project manager. One is why this project is?
Two is, is it feasible? Who are the main partners and what
results should it yield?

Military Backpack Project Statement of Work

  • 1. RUNNING HEAD: PROJECT SCHEDULE 1 PROJECT SCHEDULE 5 Instructions below. Paper that was submitted on next page Using the results of your work from week two project Identify Overall Scope/ Analysis of Unexpected Results; two additional events will be introduced. You will again analyze the impact of these events to the final project. In a 2-3 page Word document, discuss your analysis on the following events: 1. It is discovered the refrigerated module is too large for the designed refrigerated backpack pouch. What is your course of action? 2. The subcontractor assigned to build the radio module for the backpack has shut down. What is your course of action? In your analysis, you should discuss four areas affected by these unexpected events. Three of the areas of the project affected by the events should include changes to budget, human capital, and impact to schedule, and identify one additional area affected by these events. The project is all about the designing a backpack which will
  • 2. contain a refrigerated pouch and a radio module for the military of US to use during their daily tasks. After going through all the process of project implementation their will occur some unexpected results in one of the components in the project life cycle. In any project implementation the people undertaking it is given a timeframe so that the equipment will be completed on the required time. This might be an issue because; the people implementing the project may run out of time before finishing up the given task on time. This will bring in inconveniences to the US army crew and it will require them to be a little bit patient. Impacts of the events Delay may occur due to more time used to determine the designed and technology to be put in so that the backpack would be able to accommodate all the required components. The backpack should have enough space to take in both the radio module and the refrigerator pack. Also delay of the materials used to implement the project is another issue in that the suppliers take longer period to bring the required materials on time. (Institute, 2008) The pack back may occur to be smaller in that it will not accommodate the two equipment’s so it will be advisable for the team to dismantle the bag and think of making it bigger enough to accommodate the two and also ensure that the temperatures are regulated without any problem. Before going about the implementation it is good for the team to design the backpack taking into account all the aspects which will be encountered during implementation. On the other hand, the other issue is the closure of the company which was given to design and manufacture the backpack. This will lead to waste of the resources which had been allocated for the task implementation. It is therefore advisable for the subcontractor to refund part of the money which had been paid, so that another company will take the task from where it was left by the other subcontractor.
  • 3. This will lead to more delay encountered because the other subcontractor will have to identify the supplier before commencing the task. Areas affected by these unexpected events Human capital Capital being the key thing in any project implementation; it may change because of the change of the subcontractor. This is because after the closure of the first subcontractor firm, the US army had to look for another one and the budgeted capital had to go up due to the shift which occurred within a short period of time (Kendrick, 2009) Changes to budget Before any project commencement in general, there should be allocated budget which will ensure that there is no deficiency. The budget will have to change due to the occurrence of the unexpected events during the process of project implementation. The company, have to go deep into their pockets so as to meet the new budget and this may lead to a loss to the US army due to unanticipated occurrences. `Impact to schedule The backpack project had been scheduled to be completed within a period of one and half years but due to the changes the expected period had to be extended. This will lead to more time and also the latter company will have to schedule their workers to work overtime in order to accomplish the task within that given period of time. They should also have to meet the required requirements of the project like the backpack should be of high quality, light, long lasting no matter how long they have been given. Poor quality Due to this unexpected events which occurred during the project implementation, the latter subcontractor may not meet the requirements needed and may end up producing a low quality backpack. This will not be able to last longer but the army will have to encounter loss because they have to produce another set of backpack over a shorter period of time.

  • 7. 5 Part 4: instructions below and paper submitted on next page Statement of Work (SOW) Document: In 2-3 pages, develop the project Statement of Work document to include the following information: · Business need · Product scope description · Strategic plan Statement of work can be defined as a formal document that elaborates the entire scope and extent of work involved for a vendor and clarifies deliverables, timelines, and cost. It is required in times where the project involves external participants and vendors in addition to the internal project team. SOW, therefore, is created as part of a contract or bid document. It is important that the SOW becomes clear to all stakeholders so as to shed light on metrics for success and also to minimize and avoid dispute which may occur as a result of budgets, deliverables or timelines. In the backpack project, this
  • 8. paper will address all possible approaches concerning the statement of work. Business needs. The main purpose of the project needs as a statement is to come up with a convenient, durable and comfortable backpack for the military to execute their operations with ease. The project also targets to manufacture a back pan that has a provision for radio and refrigerated place for storage of snack during military operations. The another aspect of the business statement seeks to get an elaborate goal of the project; the ultimate project goal is to be able to deliver 100 units of backpack as the first delivery and then 50 more units in the last delivery of quarter (Institute., 2008) Regarding the rough estimates of magnitude (ROM) for the proposed I/P, development of this project calls for the agreed first down payment to facilitate payments for the first supplies and possible casual payments. Since the project is time bound, human hours are fundamentally important. Initially, the units to be delivered were supposed to be 100 backpacks, but due to the increase in demand, 50 more units are to be added within the set time frame. Therefore, more workforce and resources are required. There are possible risks involved if the project I/P is executed and the inverse is also true. The project seriously encounters some uncertainties because of underestimation of design and even development expenditure than the set award because of inadequate material estimation costs and lack of similar project data on cost. However, the manager of the project will be able to handle the risk via good budget estimation and constant monitoring of usage of raw materials to do away with the risk. Another risk involves not meeting timeline, and the manager will have to develop an action plan that shows the list of projects activities and expected time estimates. Product scope and description The product in question here is military backpack which is spacious enough to accommodate a refrigerator and a control
  • 9. radio and not that big that it will compromise on the field operation officer to execute his mandated tasks comfortably. A background history of the product idea came up as a result of lack of a convenient pack for carrying fresh food for military officers on the ground operations. The park’s target audience is the ministry of defense and the reason as to why this company was preferred to deliver on the project is that it proved within the set budget and timeline it will be able to deliver those units. Also their creativity in making a refrigerated backpack which is not only for food carriage but also a slot for a radio which will be of great use in locating an injured soldier in operation for purposes of rescuing. The third thing is the project requirement; the backpack needs a software development for the radios if they have to be developed together with the pack. Also, it will need a system of refrigeration which will not be able to tamper with the radio frequency system that is set beside in the same pack. Regarding materials, the pack requires plastics and converse clothing to be modeled separately and then brought for assembling of the backpack. Project deliverables for this project can be divided into two sections, optional and mandatory features. Those features will be subject to a time frame, ability, and their project cost; the backpack will contain all the features as indicated in awarded contract for a complete unit. Those fundamental features for the backpack include; two compartments for the refrigerated lunch box and radio compartment. Also, the pack will also have comfortable straps that will make the user comfortable regarding weight and also ease of movement in times of operations. Strategic plan Often it is the desire of the project team to anticipate for all the moving parts to connect for the project to be accomplished. However, it is also their wish that everybody and everything roles together in the same direction but it is a hard task for this backpack project accomplishment. In the today’s competitive climate and also the prevailing global competition there is need
  • 10. to break down the internal barrier and align the strategic reasoning, goals, and the project’s objectives (Haugan, 2002). In accomplishing the strategic plan starts with ensuring that the project team has developed the critical strategic vision and also mission alongside the strategic agenda item. Once the team completely aligns planning as part of strategic planning process, it can be accommodated. In the strategic plan, the project team is required to follow some general steps to accomplish. One is to outline project missions, programs, required resources and possible areas which need support. The team also has to identify what is working well and what calls for some adjustments. On spotting some adjustments, there is need to diagnose how those adjustments should be executed as well as determining the best approaches. Finally, the team will have to include those adjustments as part of strategies in the strategic plan and a road map which is accompanied with an alignment path. The only challenge that the project team is like to face with the strategic plan, especially on alignment, is that they will require a solid model to be followed. References Haugan, G. T. (2002). • 11. Analysis of Unexpected Events In a separate Word document, provide an analysis of unexpected events using the Project Schedule Template below (the unexpected events are located in Tab 2 of the document). In your analysis, you should discuss four areas affected by these unexpected events. Three of the areas of the project affected by the events should include changes to budget, human capital, and impact to schedule. Identify one additional area affected by these events. Project Schedule Template The second part of the project seeks to answer some eventualities which come up as a result of project implementation. The first question seeks to address what would be the cause of action in case the first milestone payment delays? No matter how well planned a project is, there is always a possibility of a delay. Delay happens for some reasons; some are bad while others are just good and others might be blessings in disguise. Therefore the biggest question is how to handle
  • 12. them when they do occur. The only solution is to put in place the right resources, so as to manage a project delay it is paramount to pull together resources so that I can analyze and make the right decision. Once the consequences are analyzed fully about the delay impact, an alternative solution is welcomed. In the case of unavailability of the material pattern for the back pain, the cause of action will be first to have a prior documentation of risk management plan. When the plan is in place, it will be easy to identify the risk and evaluated to speculate the possible delays and therefore some possible mitigation approaches. Therefore, in this case of unexpected delay, I would have alternative pattern supplier in the case that the failure happens and therefore mitigating the uncertain delay The course of action if the customer gives directives of an increase in initial delivery from 100 to 150, this calls for the company adjustments. There are two possible approaches to mitigate this case, one it will call for extra time to meet the client increased demands. Alternatively, my production chain will have to be increased so as to deliver more outputs as the back pans have increased in number. If the refrigerated module is large than back pan pouch, then I think it will be wise if the pouch is dismantled and modeled in a way that it will be big enough to contain it rather than interfering with the refrigerated module. Running Head: PROJECT MANAGEMENT 1 PROJECT MANAGEMENT 5 Part 2 instuructions: (paper that was submitted is below) Project Scope Document This assignment has two parts. In the FIRST part of this assignment, you will use the Project Scope Document template
  • 13. (linked below). In the SECOND part of this assignment, you will use Tab 2 of the Project Schedule Template (also linked below). Tab 2 will provide you with the unexpected events information needed to complete your analysis. Part I Develop the project scope document (no more than 3 pages long) to include the following information: · Project Description · Project Assumptions · Project goals · Project constraints (if any) · Project limitations · Project milestones · Project risks (initial assessment) Please use the template linked below to develop your project scope document. Project Scope Document Template The Project Scope needs to be developed prior to any analysis of unexpected events. Project Management Project Description Back pan project concerns the design and also development of backpack together with a package of a refrigerated pouch and a radio module for a military of US as the project client. The military constantly faces the challenge of always carrying both their drinks and meals while engaging in serious ground
  • 14. operations in areas which are very remote. Currently, the backpacks that the US military does use lacks a refrigeration pouch and also a radio module, therefore, making it hard and even endangering the ability to recover troops who may face difficulties in the battle. In this case, the ground and special operation, executive staff at US Army have asked for a design and also the development of a refrigerated backpack which has a place for a radio module so as to solve once and for all the existing challenge and improve operations effectiveness. The project will come up with, design and also deliver refrigerated backpacks which are of high quality to the US at a time from of one and half years starting 1st of September up to March 2017. The project is likely to be accomplished in milestone with the initial phase involving delivery of around 100 units and late on in three months 50 units (Institute., 2008). Project assumption This backpack project assumes that quality materials will be availed by the suppliers who will be able to meet the US military standards regarding softness and durability because the product will be used in extreme weather conditions. Also, the project assumes that the US military will be very willing to progressively offer sufficient resources as outlined in their proposed award so as to be able to deliver the final product in the cause of the determined time frame. The managers of the project will ensure that all the participant in the project are in possession of the required skills in design and will be able to accomplish project delivery within the set time frame. All the team participating in the project will adhere to the set guidelines as noted by US military contracting policies like the need to have and maintain confidentiality on the detail of the backpack design features. Project goals The main goal of Backpack project is to provide the United state military with backpacks which are refrigerated and that are important for their special operations and ground forces. The project will come up with high quality, light, long lasting and
  • 15. operational backpacks which will make sure that the military forces can carry their particulars in refrigerated packs hence overcoming the weather difficulties in their course of their operations. The project will see military perform their duties because the adjustable shoulder straps and also the radio module will facilitate their movement and ensure a constant communication among the team on the battlefield. Again, the project will also increase the morale of soldiers because the backpacks are soft and light therefore reducing possible injury to the users of the backpacks. The project also aims at ensuring the reusability of backpacks and that they are eco-friendly so as to reduce their effects on the environment. Also, the backpack project will be able to avail the final in the cause of the agreed time frame and cost. The latter will be met by an accurate estimation of costs, developing time schedules and budgeting for every activity that is involved in the achievement of the final product (Milošević, 2016). Project constraints The project is faced with some challenges that may impend the development and design of a cost effective, and a high quality refrigerated backpacks. The first challenge is the limited budgetary allocation which is in the proposed awards and inability to get a bank financing. Secondly, is constraining in regard to time frame because the project has to be accomplished within the stipulated time of one and half a year. The main reason is that the project requires a delivery of 50 units of backpacks in a span of every three months which precedes the initial delivery of 100 units and therefore the project personnel will have to work within the time constraints. Finally, the backpack project is faced with a technical challenge that will limit the choice of design. The reason is that both the radio module and refrigerator module have to be contained in the same backpack. Therefore the design will consider controlling temperatures in the pack keenly without interfering with the radio module present, and therefore this will limit the project team on choosing the best technology of temperature regulation
  • 16. in the backpack. Project limitations The project is faced with the inadequate expert challenge to handle the design and development of those backpacks because of project complexity and the need to get a high qualified project team. This challenge will cause an increase in overall project cost because of a high cost of labor. The other limitation entails lengthy selection process of vendor and also the requirement that seeks approval of US military. The chances are that the constraint may delay the project because of poor working relationships with the suppliers of parts and main raw materials compromising on the attainment of the set project schedule deadlines (Kendrick, 2009). Project risks The project seriously faces the risk because of underestimation of design and even development expenditure than the set award because of inadequate material estimation costs and lack of similar project data on cost. However, the manager of the project will be able to handle the risk via good budget estimation and constant monitoring of usage of raw materials to do away with the risk. Another risk involves not meeting timeline, and the manager will have to develop an action plan that shows the list of projects activities and expected time estimates. References Institute., P. M. • 18. Customer: Envisioneering as a company it gives the expertise to address the nation most crucial challenge of coming up with technologies and concepts to protect both Americans and US military. It also delivers innovative and effective to commercial and government as its main client. Initial program action items As a project manager, the nature and scope of the project are to supply a backpack with an inbuilt refrigerated pouch and also radio module to the US army and other forces within the states. As it has been our duty over the last 30 years of supplying those products, it would be had as a company to accomplish the task. As an enterprise, we employ staffs with expertise in fields like engineers, analysts, scientists, security people and administrators so as to meet the client’s needs which are sometimes most challenging and sophisticated operational and technical problems. As a project manager, the initial stage gives one an opportunity to examine the project visibility extensively. Although a company it has been dealing with supplies, it is good to know exactly who does what in the entire production of the product. Another aspect as a project manager is to see whether the company has enough resources to deliver and a full support of all participant. Memo Conclusion: I think that my first step to undertake is to bring together all the project concerned personnel at each stage and let them understand the need, timeframe, and the exact client. Another very vital thing to check is, are the required resources available. In the initial stage of the project, there are around five concerns that should worry a project manager. One is why this project is? Two is, is it feasible? Who are the main partners and what results should it yield? 1
