Question 1 and 2
1. Question 1:In what ways does
your media product use,
develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media
products? (i.e. of music
magazine?
2. My media product develops and challenges forms and conventions of a real media
product such as a music magazine as it consists of key features. The key features
that I included on the front cover of my magazine is; the title which is ‘ARABELLA’, a
colour scheme that is constantly runs through the front cover, contents page and
double page spread. These colours are red, white and black. The front cover also
includes a barcode which doesn’t draw any attention to the audience. The front
cover also included catchy cover lines which would hopefully pull the readers
attention as they stroll past the magazine section. The front cover also includes a
puff which is a feature used to make something stand out more, and in this case it
was tickets to see Ed Sheeran live. The contents page also includes the conventions
of an actual music magazine as it includes the title ‘Contents’ to help navigate the
readers where to go and find certain articles. The contents page also includes 3
images. I was influenced by a magazine to have a list of artists and bands going
down the left hand side of the magazine. As stated above, the colour scheme is
associated with the contents page. The contents page also has a ‘features’ column
that shows the audience what to expect on different pages in the magazine. Lastly,
the double page spread has the conventions of a real media product as it has one
main image and I have positioned mine on the left hand side of the double page
spread. The image used gives the impression of a moody looking teen that
associates her emotions to her music. The double page spread also includes the title
‘Maggie Fox’ which is the name of the artist. There is also an introduction paragraph
that gives the readers an insight view of the background story this young artist and
how she got to where she is. The double page spread also has page numbers and
the link to the music magazines website as there would be more articles online as
well as older issues. Lastly, the double page spread includes the article itself that
helps the readers get to know the artist as a person and read about her journey to
stardom.
3. 2. How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
4. My media product represents gender and age. It represents both males and
females as both of these genders are the target audience and are both most
likely to read my magazine. However, as there is a female on the front cover, I
would think that young teenage girls would be interested in reading this type of
magazine as the artist is a similar age to the target audiences ages. It also
reflects men/boys as it includes bands and artists that they would be interested
in, such as Cold Play or The 1975 (which is admired by both female and male).
The magazine also represents teenagers as it includes a range of fun
activities/articles that would pull their attention. The magazine also has a
chance of attending/winning, for example, going to Reading or V festival. It also
represents adults as music is not just for the younger generation, it’s also for
the older. My magazine represents these adults as it not only has 2016 music
artists but it also has artists from the 90s which were massive during this
decade.
