2. MY IDEA
• My opening scene will be shot in the dance studio at my school due to it being the simple
yet realistic location that I need for my horror genre. Usually in a horror movie, the generic
conventions for horror is that the setting is an abandoned building or isolated place.
Because the dance studio is cut off from the rest of the school, I thought it would be
effective to use. Also my opening scene includes dancers so this would be a natural and
realistic location for them all to be at.
• I chose horror for my genre because I thought it would be a challenge to create an
opening scene that grasps and scares the viewers in such a short amount of time. I also
chose it because I am terrified of horror movies so wanted to see if creating one could
help concur my fear and if I really need to watch horrors to be able to make one.
3. MY OPENING SCENE PLOT
• ZOMBIE !!!!
• The plot for my opening scene is a dance class practicing their dance after school. The girls set up a
camera to record themselves dancing to see where they need to improve and so they can remember any
new motifs they add. One of the dancers appears to be missing but the others carry on without her anyway.
Half way through the dance the missing girl enters, she looks pale and makes strange moaning and
growling noises. Everyone stops dancing and starts asking her questions, all starting to step back a little.
Finally the girl looks up and you see her blood shot eyes and she races to one of the girls and bites her
neck and starts to eat her.
• I have two ways in which this opening scene could end. Either all the girls run into the closet whilst the
“zombie” tries to get in and finally once she leaves the dancers go to see the girl that was bit and find her
lying in the middle of the studio surrounded by blood. They place the camera facing the mirror and start to
panic. The camera is still recording and the dead girls eyes flick open. Or, all the dancers run outside in a
panic only to find that their whole school has been over run by zombies. People are running around the car
park trying to flee when suddenly one girl shouts to the other who is recording the footage, she turns round
to find her zombie friend about to bite her.
• The dance class will contain a group of girls around the age of 16-17. I have thought about including a few
boys however, girls seem to be more vulnerable in horror movies and I’d like to show that not all girls are
likely to be the victims during an apocalypse or horror movie.
• The footage will be filmed with hand held camera. This is because it will become more realistic for the
audience and they may even start to think that a zombie apocalypse could potentially happen.
4. My
inspiration
My film is based around zombies, this is
because most of my inspiration is from
The Walking Dead. I am a big fan of this
on going TV series. I watch the show
religiously and would love to be in it
somehow. But for now, I can use it as
inspiration for my opening scene.
Another movie that gave me some
inspiration was the film Chronicle. This is
due to it all being handheld footage which
allows the audience to believe that
something like this could potentially
happen and makes it more realistic and
believable.
