2. Introduction
• Bhuvan is a software application which allows users to explore
a 2D/3D representation of the surface of the Earth.
• The browser is specifically tailored to view India, offering the
highest resolution in this region provided with local four
languages.
• A beta version was launched on 12 August 2009.
• Bhuvan not only provide visualisation but also
provide timely Disaster support services (Domestic and
international),Free satellite data and products download
facility, Rich Thematic datasets.
3. Working with Bhuvan
• Bhuvan is a free web based visualisation
system.Users can access Bhuvan by visiting
www.bhuvan.nrsc.gov.in
• Bhuvan contains four segments:

• Interactive videos, virtual tour, discussion forum,
help documents are also available.
6. Bhuvan2D
• Web mapping service application based on
OpenLayers open source project.
• Highly responsive, intuitive mapping interface with
detailed imagery and map data embedded.
• Its functional capabilities include:
Map navigation
Drawing point line, polygon,
Online shapefile creation,
Geoprocessing overview map,
Linear and Areal measurement.

Map navigation is performed using scroll ,zoom in and zoom
out tools.
• Drawing Point ,Line and Polygon
Draw Tool from tool menu is used to create point ,line and
polygon features

10. Bhuvan 3D
• Shows images in a multi-sensor, multi-platform and a
multitemporal domain.
• Lets you access, explore and visualise IRS images and a bundle
of rich thematic information in 3D landscape.
• Users can fly to different locations on the terrain and experience
unparalleled 3D navigation.
• Bhuvan 3D has many unique features and easy to use intuitive
interface, where users can virtually experience the physical
characteristics of the terrain, especially the Indian landscape.

13. NRSC Open EO Data Archive
• NRSC Open EO Data Archive facilitates the users to select,
browse and download satellite data and products.
• Through NOEDA Bhuvan has laid a step forward in serving
Scientific and Research community by providing free data

• At present Cartosat-1:DEM: 1 arc sec, Resourcesat-
1:AWiFS Ortho (2008,2009):56m, Resourcesat-1:LISS-III
Ortho (2008-09):24m , IMS -1 : Hyper spectral Imager datasets
,Oceansat -2 (OCM) ,Oceansat-2 (Scatterometer) for Indian
region are available
• It gives the option to select area based on 'Bounding Box,
Mapsheet (SOI), Tiles, Interactive Drawing. Users can see
thumbnail view, metadata and download the selected tiles

21. Conclusion
• Bhuvan is an interactive versatile visualization system
• In Bhuvan users can add their own points of interest and share them
with others
• Users can delineate vector features as shape files
• Bhuvan can be connected to Global Positioning System(GPS)
device in real-time or playback mode
• Users can chart routes, plot areas, view terrain profile and overlay
images

sciences to history. Also, take students virtually to an area
being studied and show them the topography, surrounding
areas etc.
• Useful for scientists to facilitate new possibilities from the IRS
geospatial data for collaborative research

schemes at the grassroots level

Users can choose Bhuvan 2D or Bhuvan 3D for EO visualisation , Open EO data archive for downloading IRS satellite data and products, and thematic data dissemination for obtaining interoperable OGC web services

The two dimensional (2D) Bhuvan, a web mapping service application based on OpenLayers open source project, offers powerful, user-friendly mapping technology to organise the satellite data and map along with myriad information geographically with no server-side dependencies in an easy way.
Bhuvan 2D is a slick, exciting online mapping application. It provides a highly responsive, intuitive mapping interface with detailed imagery and map data embedded.

of rich thematic information in 3D landscape. On Bhuvan 3D, users can fly to
different locations on the terrain and experience unparalleled 3D navigation.
Bhuvan 3D has many unique features and easy to use intuitive interface, where
users can virtually experience the physical characteristics of the terrain, especially
the Indian landscape. The urban design tools are a magic galore. Here you can
virtually build roads, junctions and traffic lights in an urban setting! Experience all
this just on Bhuvan 3D
The Disaster Management Support (DMS) Program of ISRO, commits to providing timely support and services from aero-space systems, both imaging and communications, for strThese include creation of digital data base for facilitating hazard zonation, damage assessment, etc., monitoring of major natural disasters using satellite and aerial data, development of appropriate techniques and tools for decision support, establishing satellite based reliable communication network, deployment of emergency communication equipments and R&D towards early warning of disasters. The Decision Support Centre (DSC), set up at NRSC under the DMS program, is the single window of ISRO to provide the information for efficient disaster management. It operates on 16x7 basis during normal time and on 24x7 basis during disasters. Similarly, all information on disasters generated by DSC is ported onto Bhuvan for the use of the common man. Active forest fire incidents derived using MODIS Terra/ Aqua and DMSP-OLS data disseminated through NRSC's web site (INFFRAS) is also shown on Bhuvan on a daily basis.engthening the resolves of disaster management in the country.
Potential Fishing Zones PFZ forecasts are operationally disseminated to all the maritime States including the two Union Territories since 1993. An integrated approach for Potential Fishing Zone based on Chlorophyll & SST have been developed, validated and transferred to Indian National Centre for Coastal and Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) for operational use. About 40,000 users are benefited through PFZ forecast.
Data from Oceansat - 1 and Oceansat - 2 is being used for various applications within India. The most significant one being, the advisories of potential fishing zones and coastal water pollution, sedimentation monitoring, estimation of water vapour content in the atmosphere and the prediction of the onset of the monsoon. The data showcased on Bhuvan about the PFZ contains information about distance, direction, and the depth of the potential fishing zones
