1. In what way does your media
product challenge the codes and
conventions of a real media product.
2. • It became apparent that my music magazine had similarities to
other established music magazines.
• I followed some codes and conventions found when researching
music magazines. For example, having a colour scheme within my
magazine. Throughout most magazines I found they all had a colour
scheme to create a running theme, for example NME red and black.
• My colour scheme was burgundy and neutral colours to keep it
looking sophisticated. I also used similar fonts on all of my pages as
this is done in successful music magazines and I believe it brings my
magazine together. Due to the fonts being similar it keeps a
continuity between the pages.
• I go against wolf’s theory of women being presented as a sex object
and to be consumed by the male gaze, I however want to target my
magazine to women as well as men, so therefore I go against Wolf’s
theory by attracting women through feminine fonts and colours.
3. I felt within that There was a gap In music magazines That targeted women I therefore challenged codes and
conventions of Music magazines to try and target women more in magazines For example NME has a 70+ male
reading therefore felt trying to fill this gap for women Would be a extremely good promotion tool. I did this by using a
female artist on my front cover To hopefully appeal to women, I also used burgundy colour lips and logo as I felt this
could also Create a attraction for women. I feel both genders are addressed on the front cover due to the
Black and white image, not making it overly femine. This contrasts magazines such as rolling stones,
Who use more masculine font and colours.
