4. Sample
100 People in Pennsylvania
Randomization of Selection: 100 people in
Pennsylvania volunteered to participate in the
experiment. The 100 people were then blocked
by age and randomly assigned to each treatment
5. Survey
A survey was handed out asking all people what
they enjoyed doing for fun
The top choice for each age group will be the fun
treatment in the experiment
6. Blocking
Blocking by age. Age may have be factor on the
participants ability to estimate time. Also people
in different age groups may have “fun” doing
different things.
7. Blinding
Because the experiment is voluntary, blinding
will not be necessary. It is not possible to blind
when making people have fun or not have fun.
8. Random Assignment
After blocking the 100 volunteers by age, each
age group will contain 20 volunteers. Each group
will be numbered from 1-20. Enter in the random
number generator (1,20) and repeat 10 times. A
random number generator will be used to
randomly select 10 people for the “no fun”
treatment and 10 people for the “fun” treatment.
9. Treatment
Each treatment will last for 1 hour
Fun – 10 people of each age group will
participate in the “fun” activity
No Fun – 10 people of each age group will be
sitting in a room doing nothing for the control
experiment
