This document outlines an experiment to test the "5 second rule" by dropping different types of food (grapes, carrots, chicken) onto either a hardwood or carpeted floor from 1 foot above. The food will be randomly assigned to the floor types and tested for bacteria compared to a control group of undropped food. There will be 50 pieces of each food split into two groups of 25 to be dropped, with one group going on hardwood and the other on carpet. The experiment aims to see if the floor type affects the amount of dirt or bacteria picked up by the food within 5 seconds of being dropped.
