Regardless of the era, people who belong to it will dance at least once in their lifetime. One can go
as far as to say that dancing is crucial to one's overall happiness. Realizing this significance, C+C
Music Factory produced a song called Gonna Make You Sweat to inspire the world to dance. It
reached its peak in the week of February 5th, the day I was born and stayed on the Billboard 100
number one for mere two weeks.
Gonna Make You Sweat, or also known as Everybody Dance Now, is a song by C+C Music Factory.
This song is comprised of two components, the rap and vocal, performed by Freedom Williams and
disco/house artist Martha Wash. After it was released in December 1990, it was considered a
worldwide smash and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in February
1991. This song was also number one on Billboard's Top R&B Singles and on Hot Dance
Music/Club Play as well.

type vocal. The chorus gives the song repetition that allows the audience to feel at ease and enjoy
the upbeat music. Also, Wash's chorus is very high pitched and produces much tension within the
listener; nonetheless, William's low key rap gives the resolution that they need.
C+C Music Factory were a group comprised of extremely skilled members and it is not surprising

Hip hop is a very broad subculture due to the fact that it is comprised of so many other subcultures.
The four main factions of Hip hop are MCing(master of ceremonies) better identified today as
rapping, DJing (disk jockey), breakdancing and Graffiti. Break dancing is known as " the physical
manifestation of the hip hop style"(Rose 47). The Hip hop subculture has a long lineage and the four
main factions where all foraged together in the same place at the same time. Even though the culture
at the time was viewed as deviant hip hop slowly became a very popular subculture in America. Due
to the fact that Hip–hop is so popular makes me believe that the breaking subculture has been
absorbed into mainstream culture.
Break dancing was first performed by underprivileged black and Puerto Rican youth in the mid–

the breaks in between the songs. It was within these breaks that break dancers would come out and "

Panic ! At The Disco (P ! ATD)
Panic! At the Disco Panic! At the Disco (P!ATD) is a pop punk rock band that consists of the lead
singer and face of the group, Brendon Urie, and several unnamed/unpopular guitarists and
drummers. The biggest competitor for P!ATD is the other main stream pop punk rock band called
Fall Out Boy (FOB) which consists of Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman, and Andy Hurley.
Although P!ATD and FOB have similar musical styles, the different music videos each group
presents, the varying tunes and lyrics, and disparate stage presence during live concerts, is why I
lean toward P!ATD as my favorite overall band, with FOB falling just behind it. The themes and

One of my favorites lyrics from P!ATD song, Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time, is "Memories
tend to just pop up/Drunk pre–meds and some rubber gloves/Five–thousand people with designer
drugs/Don't think I'll ever get enough." The first time I heard this part of the song, I surprisingly
started laughing out loud in public (I'm a pre–med student). Ever since then, I became a fan of
P!ATD and I can proudly say that I know the lyrics to 80% of their songs. FOB lyrics are catchy but
not as comedic and unique as I would like. For example, in their song My Song Knows What You
Did in the Dark, the chorus is "I'm a young lover's rage/Gonna need a spark to ignite/My song
knows what you did in the dark/So light 'em up up up...," the lyrics are somewhat predictable and
not that memorable as the lyrics used in P!ATD songs. Because of the lyrics and tune that P!ATD
use, I find myself looking more forward to listening to P!ATD songs because it's easier for me to
sing along to

Dance In My Life Dance, along with music, has always been a part of my life. As a child, my sister
and I would 'choreograph' our own dance routines pretending to be with the USO. We wanted to be
like The Supremes or Martha and the Vandellas, or even the Bee Gees or Osmonds. Together, we
would make up 'song and dance' routines then perform them for our family. Really, we were just
trying to please our daddy whom we adored. Regrettably, I was never able to participate in formal
dance training. Most other kids joined the dance classes at Tony Deel's Studio but I was unable to do
so for financial reasons. Alternatively, I became a cheerleader and that same year I was allowed to
also join drill team and pom squad. Initially, I was a lanky, awkward teen with little coordination,
but in time I gained skills and dance moves that put me at the front of the squad. Surprisingly, I
became so adept at the moves in the routines I was able to also choreograph many of our
performances. Dance became my 'happy place'. There, in front of all the crowds of people at the
football or basketball games, I was no longer the shy little girl who was embarrassed to speak for
fear of being made fun of. My self–image of being a scrawny, crooked toothed, flat–chested little
curly mop–head didn't matter when I was performing. I was so good at it, that I was able to show off
those skills with confidence. This form of dance saved me from a life of cowering in the corner or in
the shadows of my peers.

Are disc jockeys musicians? I firmly believe that disc jockeys are musicians for a number of
reasons. First and foremost, disc jockeys must understand and follow the trends of the music. If a DJ
cannot follow the trends of the music, they will never be successful or create a following. If one is

Self–employed DJs usually pay for everything themselves. Some DJs become well known among
the community and are asked to make public appearances around the community. Most DJs that are
well know are the charismatic ones who are wild and crazy on air. Which leads me to my next
